We are thinking of going to Universal for 2 days after our cruise in January. We haven't been there for probably 5 plus years, but the one DS has been begging to go instead of WDW.

We would be there from January 26th - 28th. We have gone to WDW in January and have experienced the dreaded Brazilian tour groups, but did not find them as bad as we had heard.

Are there any deals at Universal at this time of year? How late are the parks open? Would we need to stay on-site to avoid the crowds, or is it even crowded? Frankly I don't want to spend more on a couple of days at Universal than we are spending on our 8 day cruise.

What kind of deals? Hotel? Tickets? Parks close between 6-7PM most nights during January and the crowds are usually light...except when the dreaded tour groups are there.

Parks close early.Crowds aren't bad, wait times at mid day were around 45 mins for Harry Potter , 30 mins for Spiderman and 20 mins for Mummy, but as mentioned the tour groups are there( we found them more noticeable there than Disney). If you stay onsite you get the express pass and can avoid most of them.

Any kind of deal is fine .... package .... hotel ...... tickets. I would prefer to stay on-site just to get the early admission, but if it is too much, then I would stay off-site and just go with the flow. We would be there on a Sunday/Monday or Monday/Tues.

Like I said I just don't want to spend a fortune for just a couple of days.

You'll have to keep checking the rates for the onsite resorts...they will change quite often between now and then. Ticket deals are going to be scarce...especially after HP 2 opens at the Studios next summer. If you see something, check it out thoroughly before buying.
