I find myself reaching for sweets whenever I am feeling stress or am board. This is NOT a new problem for me! I usually can do OK as I know my weakness but I have had sick children at home for the last 2 weeks and therefor can not get out and have been eating all those wonderful Girl Scout cookies. Any little tricks you could share? I have spent extra time on the treadmill but as I get older it hurts more to make up for the calories that way!;) :D

remove the temptation!!

Thats the only thing I can do, if it isnt here I cant eat it. LOL

try to go for something healthier. My new thing is apple slices and peanut butter. YUM

Good luck! You arent alone I do that same thing!

when i put the extras into fitday and see what im doing to myself somedays its enough to snap me back to reality

I know when I am sitting at the computer, I get the munchies. I have turned to Tic Tac's....orange is my favorite.

Thanks for the tips and support! Hard candy is a great idea. I wish I was more disiplined. When I was younger I really was but now I just am not.:( I hate it when I know what I should do but do just the opposite! Thanks for letting me know I am not alone here!:D

Mom,
You are definitely not alone. When I first started my doctor perscribed some appetite pills. I was NOT hungry, yet for the first week I continued to eat -- just out of habit. I learned a lot about myself. I discovered that toward payday, when the money was getting low I would eat, or on days when my kids didn't need me to help with their school work, I'd snack alot.
For me, a new way of eating encompassed A LOT more than chosing the right foods, it was literally re-training my life.
It's not an easy thing, but we're all stronger for taking the time to look at our habits and change them.

I have to agree with Binny too! You can't eat what isn't there!

Also think about doing something with your hands-organize a photo album or turn it into a scrapbook- learn to knit or crochet--if your hands are busy it's harder to get them into that box of girl scout cookies!

(TigerBear that's a beautiful husky!)

and as for eating at your desk... remember this little tidbit posted on the CB last week?

That cured me from eating here

BTW Dr Phil says to ONLY eat at the table. That way you have to be REALLY hungry to eat LOL. I hate sitting at my tabel all the time!

ok this was my new Years resolution was to not to eat at my desk ( very hard when you work form home!) but now I have a real reason to NOT do it EVER again!
:blech:

A combinaton of crumbs building up over weeks and a lack of thorough cleaning means that the average work station contain nearly 400 times as many microbes than toilets, it is claimed.

The grim reality of our grubby working environments is exposed in a study by the University of Arizona.

Top of the list for offenders is the telephone, which harbours up to 25,127 microbes per square inch - mainly because it is passed between people. Next filthiest is the desk, which is capable of supporting 10 million microbes - an average of 20,961 microbes per square inch. Keyboards come third with 3,295 microbes, followed by computer mice with 1,676.

By contrast, the average toilet seat contains 49 microbes per square inch, the survey showed.

Microbiologist Dr Charles Gerba, of the University of Arizona, who carried out the research, said: "When someone is infected with a cold or flu bug the surfaces they touch during the day become germ transfer points because some cold and flu viruses can survive on surfaces for up to 72 hours.

"An office can become an incubator."

Dr Gerba's study found bacteria levels increased drastically during the day, peaking after lunch.

Food spills, such as tea and biscuits, can support mini eco-systems, but cleaning of keyboards and phones is not always given high priority.

Dr Gerba said: "Without cleaning, a small area on your desk of phone can sustain millions of bacteria that could potentially cause illness."

The study found that where office workers who were told to clean their desks with disinfecting wipes, bacterial levels were reduced by 99 per cent.

British microbiologist Professor Sally Bloomfield said the study reinforced the need for good hygiene practice both at work and in the home.

She said: "The superhighways for bacteria are hands and the surfaces we touch.

"Viruses are transferred by our hands, especially cold viruses."

She said it was impossible to turn our surroundings into sterile zones, but we can minimise the risk by washing our hands regularly and using alcoholic wipes on office furniture like phones and keyboards.
