Hello, I just wanted to know if anyone has stayed at the Hilton in Downtown Disney before and what did you think about the resort? I 'm staying there April 27th and also on May 3rd (First and last night stays) and I would like to hear some reviews from you fine folks. I'll be staying at the Poly 4/28 to 5/3 and I can't wait to go!! :cool1: I stayed at the Best Western LBV in Downtown Disney and wanted something a little nicer this time. The last time I stayed at the Hilton in DD was April 1989 and I'm sure things have changed since then. LOL!

i stayed at the hilton in dtd this past august. it was my first trip ever to disney world, and i was celebrating my birthday. being the virgo that i am, and wanting to make this trip at least a little special but i couldn't afford staying at a disney hotel, i poured over the reviews of different hotels from this site and others --good and bad. i checked out frommers. and the hilton was the choice.

i was more than happy with it. i think i was lucky in that my room was on the 8th floor and overlooked the pool, dtd, and had a view of the golfball of epcot.

what i liked about it: i loved that when we weren't in the parks we didn't have to take a bus to dtd. all we had to do was walk a small path by the pool and cross street in less than 3 minutes from leaving the room we were in dtd. it had the early magic hour, which we took advantage of. the buses were pretty good, not too crowded the majority of the time. the only time it was very crowded was when we were coming back from animal kingdom and stopped at one of the water parks. it ended up being standing bus only. the people of hilton were nice, and helpful -- helped me track down a package that disney never delivered. they did have a character breakfast they offered, we didnt go to this one, but it was nice to know that it was there. the buses picked us up at the hotel on time. the room was very clean and the maid even put my nephew's stuffed animals on the bed. i did like that the sink was outside of the bath/toliet area. good size closet. no tackey decor. and plenty of towels.

what i didn't like about it: we didn't find out about the path from the pool to the street across from dtd after walking around the hilton and on our way back from the day in dtd. they kept giving us coffee, and by the time we left, we had a pile of it because we never used it -- and they could see we didn't use it. the ridiculous price of drinks at the deli, i would rather take the walk to dtd to get something cheaper. paying for the gym. forgot to give us our mousesavers coupon for free meal for my nephew -- but that was okay we mostly ate out or at my uncle's. room service messed up my breakfast order.

would i stay there again? yes. i love being so close to dtd. being able to walk there anytime, and walk back was great especially when you want to get away from others in your party but don't want to do the trek to a park.

would i recommend it? yes. it doesn't have the disney magic that i hear about from disney resorts. but it's decent for the right price. i paid about $79 a night. i don't think i would stay there if it was more than $130 a night -- if that much.

It's a very nice hotel and I would stay there again. The rooms have been redone fairly recently and have "modern" feel to them. It has a nice food court type thing in the lobby and I didn't find the prices any worse that Disney's.

Where did you find the $79 rate? We like to stay here to earn HHpoints but I haven't seen any great rates lately. Thanks.

Have stayed there quite a few times, and really enjoyed it. The rooms were fine, and the transportation too. The only slight downside was we found the pool a bit cold in April as did some other guests. It doesn't seem to be as heated to the same degree as the hotels at WDW. A minor gripe though.

Thanks for all of the input. I was starting to wonder if I made the right choice and now I'm certain I did. :jumping4: This site is great! Thanks again. pirate:

You'll enjoy the Hilton at DTDW. We stayed there 2 years ago during Easter week. You can take the bus to the parks or anywhere else. DTD is directly across the street not more than 5-10 min walk. The pool was great for our kids and the hotel has some great dining choices similar to the upgraded hotels in WDW.

How is the pool area? Is it ok for kids? thanks.

kpossible,
there was three pools if my memory serves me good. one that went from 3 feet on to about 8 feet or so. one for the itty bitty ones, like a wading pool. and then another pool that wasn't deep at all, but more than a wading pool. plus two hot tubs.

where did you find the $79 rate?
disneycrazymom,
i found it on mousesavers back in july and booked the trip from their website. my trip was in august. since my experience there, i've signed up for best western, hilton, and wyndham email subscriptions that give me great rates. i also check their net rates and see if that's better in some cases.

DisneyFan, I also plan to stay at the Hilton on the first and last nights of my Disney trip and at Poly for the nights in between. When you return, please post a report detailing your experiences at both hotels. Thanks!

Does anyone know if this hotel offers weddings? I know the Wyndham does but I was wondering about the Hilton.

We stayed at the DTD Hilton from 12/11 to 12/19. Had a mini suite, thanks to the Hilton Points towers manager. the room was fantastic. Great continental breakfast, efficient transportation to/from parks. Will stay there again.

We've stayed there two years in a row, both times I bid on Priceline and got the room for under $65.

We like that it is close to DTD, close to I-4 for when we go downtown or shopping, and I liked the decor. I'm not much for Disney's often gaudy theming.

We had a lovely corner room at the end of a hall last time facing DTD. It was a little worn, but nothing I couldn't live with.

We will continue to stay here. Unless there are some spectacular code deals for deluxe resorts (which are really the only ones I like to stay at) there's no contest.

I have never heard any complaints about either the Hilton Lake Buena Vista or the Wyndham Palace Lake Buena Vista. You will be nice and close to DTD, right across the street, in fact!

Enjoy!

I'm going to a conference which will be held at the Hilton in late Feb/early March 2005. The discounted rate (for a single room) is $199 per night. I'm thinking this is very high. Seems to me I'd be better off to get a room inside Disney World for the family, and then drive myself to the conference each day.

My company will pay for the room, etc., of course, but I think I'll see if they will give me the $199 per night and let me use my DVC points at Old Key West or Saratoga Springs. Kind of a trade-off for them and also for me. $200 a day would pay for my family's meals and extras!!

I just can't believe $199 per night is a discount!!! Sounds like you guys have gotten much better deals than this!

I think your right! We did that once when DH was working in Orlando. His comp rented a car so he took it everyday to work and kids and I used the Disney transportation. $199 is too high IMO and the busses are not as convenient as the on site ones are. There is a new AP code out for that time but if your company doesn't fuss about such things you can definiately get a room for $199 somewhere on site. There may be a corp rate at the Swan which is my favorite and you can earn points. Enjoy!

Stayed there for a couple nights last June when we had to fly down to work with our builder and designer on some house things. It was clean, newly refurbished, quite comfortable for the two of us. We had a room with a king bed, could see fireworks but were too exhausted to bother :earseek: The room also had a minifridge and coffee-maker, and I want to recall a small microwave--I could be thinking of someplace else though. There were two robes and an iron and board and a hairdryer as well.

The shop in the lobby was convenient although yes, a tad overpriced. You pay for that convenience.

We didn't use teh pools or their bus, the one time we needed to go someplace that we didn't want to drive, we walked across the street and took a WDW bus (we were going to the BW for cocktails and dinner) and then cabbed it back.

I would stay there again in a heartbeat. We paid $102 including taxes, an Internet AAA rate.

Anne
