ok ,i am stupid ..how do these things work? can not find it on the website( evidently i am the" only" stupid one since everyone else knows automatically) but can get a bunch from e-rewards ( i think it's 2000?) & i could maybe use for the drive down? help anyone?

At e-rewards, you can redeem for 1,000 HHonors points at a cost of "$25" or for 3,000 HHonors points for "$50". You can buy points from HHonors for $0.0125 each or less. That's $12.50 for 1,000. I don't know where e-rewards gets the impression that the same amount of points is worth "$25".

To be honest, I get several e-rewards emails per week and it takes me almost a year to earn "$50". Most of the emails are only worth a few cents. Every once in a while, I get a survey that's worth a few $$. It will take quite a while to earn enough for a free night, even at HHonors' lowest reward level of 7,500 points.

But, you can also redeem MyPoints points for HHonors points. 1,000 MyPoints Points = 1,000 HHonors Points. I find that the MyPoints points add up a little faster, even if I'm only doing their surveys and their emails. It may be worth joining MyPoints as well if you want to add to those free HHonors points.

so do you have to have enough for a free night or can you use them for so much off a night...ie 1000 pts=$ 10 off or something..agree about the e-rewards in general...the points are the only thing i might ever use!

From what I can see on the HHonors website, you need to redeem for free nights, not $$ off coupons. There are other things that you can redeem for but most of them are at least 10,000 HHonors points. Among the rewards that you can redeem for are:
  • 15% off dining certificate (participating hotels) .....................................7,500 HHonors Points
  • BOGO meals (equal or lesser value, participating restaurants)..............7,500 HHonors Points
  • Free In-room Movies (book of 5 certificates) .........................................7,500 HHonors Points
  • Buy 3 nights/get 4th night free (qualifying rates, selected dates) ..... 10,000 HHonors Points
  • Buy 2 nights/get 3rd night free (qualifying rates, selected dates) ..... 12,500 HHonors Points

I am also a member of e-Rewards. As an IT guy, I get a bit more surveys and e-mails from them and my account now has $400.

E-Rewards only lets you convert the $25 or $50 into HHonors points once every 90 days. In fact, you can only do one of the 2 every 90 days....ie, you cannot do the $25 and $50 every 90 days...only one of the two. So, of course, I do the $50 to 3,000 points every 90 days.

I've done it 3 times so far and thus have 9,000 HHonor points saved up for next year. We are going to use the free rooms at our half-way driving stop points from Louisiana.

From what I've read on the HHonors website, you cannot use points for a % discount. I think it's a minimum of 7,500 points for their lowest free room award.

I did the erewards thing - kind of a pain, accumulating money is SLOW and then your points get close to expiring before you can really get anything good. Won't do that again.

The hilton honors thing - I had a credit card that accumulated hh points and I got a two day kid pass to Universal once, but the best use of the points from that seems to be to convert them to "Ebay, Anything Points" - I converted 30,000 points for $60.00 worth of anything points to use on ebay purchases.
