Hi! I am currently on the waitlist for HH April 19-26. I really don't think it will come through, but you never know. I was thinking about trying for a trade with II instead. Good idea? Bad?

Thanks

It's a great idea if you need a 2 BR for the full week. The points for the resorts on the list should all be MID level through week 17 which is the week that crossed from April to May this year. A DC 2 BR would be 280 points for the week. So 252 points plus the $95 exchange fee would be a comparable exchange or in your favor in this situation. Remember that the 4 resorts on the list are not the same. As an exchange Grande Ocean is the best, Surfwatch second and Barony 3rd, I would not list the 4th Marriott and there are no others that I'd be thrilled about. Another option is it might be possible for an II member to get you a trade back in to DVC for that week.

I have never traded my points before, so this is all new to me! Now, if I ask for a trade, I get to choose whether or not I want the resort that was available. right?
How would I get an II member trade back into DVC?

sorry if these are dumb questions..I just feel clueless...
Thanks

You go through a 2 part process. First you call and tell them what area or what resorts and they see if anything is sitting there. If it is you can say yes or no at that time and you're all set if you say yes. If you put in an ongoing request, you can specify the week by dates and the resorts or just say the area. I'd recommend never doing an area search as you'll essentially always get a resort you would prefer not to have, even a resort added to the list later but not acceptable could bite you. If you put in an ongoing search and then you change you're mind on something you can change or cancel any search for a refund if applicable. Once they find a match you're essentially stuck. One thing to know is that while it's sometimes possible to be more specific, here's the way the system works. Say you call and specified 9 Feb, 2008 (Sat). From II's standpoint that is by rule the same as saying 7-9 Feb (Fri, Sat OR Sun) is OK.

The only way to get a trade back in would be to be a regular II member or know one well enough who could help you out.

I did look at the DVC exchange list for HH and they have added a number of resorts to the list fairly recently, there were only 4 Marriott's as recently as about last month, now there are all 7 and 12 resorts total. The one's I mentioned above are the only ones I'd be personally willing to trade DVC for even 2 BR for 2 BR (or points accordingly) with one exception. That is that Heritage gets free golf every day for the entire week, I think it's for 2 people not 4 but don't recall for certain. So for one who golfs, the lower quality resort (by DVC standards) might be worth it. There's another HH resort that gets free golf but I'm not recalling which one it is or even if it's II or not, it' not a Marriott. Golfers could likely easily find out on TUG. To my knowledge, the only resort on DVC's list with and the only one you can search for a studio or 1 BR for is Harbour Town Yacht Club. You can't search for a resort for a unit smaller than they have through DVC. You can do that with II directly as a way of guaranteeing a size upgrade IF you get the resort.
