We are thinking of gooing to either Hilton Head or Vero Beach in 2010- My B-day is April 9th and after visiting Disney twice this year we think it would be nice to just do a nice resort stay w/o Park activities.
My question is, which do YOU prefer and why...
Also, what activities are available at these resorts?
What restaurants are at these resorts and what type of food?
I have looked for more info on these resorts and haven't found much... Maybe since they are not at Disney Park areas...?
Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

Hilton Head in April. Beautiful time, but, be aware that the Heritage Golf Tournement will be at that time. Looks like April 13th through the 19th this year. The island will be filling up with spectators.

Savannah in April is also very pretty and we don't have the golf crouds.

Sand Gnats will be a problem though. Make sure you have a good supply of Skin-so-Soft or other repellant that specifically repells SandGnats.

Warmish days, coolish nights.

Any other questions? Let me know.

We love both for different reasons. HHI is closer and we can drive to it. For us it is sort of our DVC nature retreat. We're bird lovers and they have a great variety. Though it doesn't interest us HHI has much more shopping nearby and MANY more restaurants than VB. The beach is not a part of the resort property. It is about 1.5 miles away, but they have a beach house with pool and snack bar / grille. We love riding bikes in and around the resort.

VB is our beach get-away. VB is ocean front and though the beach is small compared to HHI they have real waves that are perfect for boogie boarding. The VB resort is very compact compared to all the others. Everything is no more than a 2 minute walk from your room... the pool, beach, 2 restaurants, poolside grille, Green Cabin Room with lite fare and nightly live entertainment, the lake with soccer field, tennis courts, basketball courts, etc. I love this because we can set up our umbrella and chairs on the beach and if I or DW wants (or needs) to go back to the room or move up to the pool it is right there.

Both resorts have great activities... I think because they are not a part of WDW they both spend much time and effort to create activities. I don't have any activity sheets for HHI, but here are some for VB from last year.

If you prefer warmer temps you might want to lean towards VB in April.

Which ever you choose you will be a happy camper :thumbsup2

We did HH that week last year and we LOVED it.

We have 2 young daughters and we absolutely had the best time just chilling out and relaxing. There are LOTS of activities for parents with kids and just for kids alone as well.

We were there when the Heritage golf tournament was going on and we didn't even realize it.

I'll see if I can find my old thread that I posted live trip reports to... it was a great trip and a nice change from Orlando and the hustle and bustle of the parks.

Thx! I guess as we get closer to booking I will hopefully have enough info to decide but I think we're leaning towards Vero- I loooove being right on the ocean! And, yes, I am just wondering if we will need a slower paced vacation next year after going to WDW twice this year- (the beauty of those developer points) We will absolutely love our time at WDW this year and I may be surprised by myself and not be able to give up a year at WDW to have a slower paced vacation yet but I am thinking realistically. We are staying 4 days the first time and 5 days the 2nd- But I am off work 8 days each time- (the vacation from vacation before going back to work...) So, I figure if we do a slower paced but the kids can still enjoy beach, pool, sports related activities, crafts, etc- they can be just as "vacationed" as we will be and I will not need "down time" once we get home and eat up vacation time by resting at home afterwards...
Thx again- I am doing google searches to find other info on VB & HHI-

Thx Rob! Yes, I did see when someone pulled it to the top and I have been reading through the thread learning more- VB seems to be a better fit for us than HHI even though it will be a longer drive. I am wondering now though if we should be going in April... Maybe July would be better? These are our most often times for travel right now due to kids and DH w/ school schedules...
As I read through I am sure the time frame will start to become more clear as well- We own at AKV so it will be a 7 mos booking window and although I love the heat, I am not big on bugs... checking up on that issue a bit more as to what times are worse etc- Thx for the links though- I will be picking up where I left off when I get home from my meeting tonight- (Out of town all day today for work, but it means I get home early :thumbsup2 )
Thx again!
