Hilton Head Turtle Watch

I know the Turtles lay eggs at Vero form May through September.
The book I bought at Vero stated they hatch about 60 days after the eggs are laid. You have to be very cautious about using lights in the area when the turtles lay eggs and when they hatch. They are programmed to go towards surfaces lighter than the surrounding beach. They lay their eggs and also hatch after dark. This is how they find their way back to the safety of the sea because the sea shows up as a lighter more luminescent target for them. The problem is that people with flashlights and homes with outside lighting have caused the turtles to head in the wrong direction - even across highways where they obviously die. Around Vero ordinances regulate that home must have a subdued type of outdoor lighting. I also would be interested in whether Hilton has turtle watches. I am going there next year. I suspect the times and regulations would be similar to VEro.
