Hilton Head, SC

Would anyone know anything about Hilton Head Resort?

We are staying here in July for two weeks. It is an older condominium resort that has been undergoing a lot of renovations the past couple years.
I believe it is near Folly Field Beach....kind of mid-island.

The place we are renting is completely renovated and it looks like a decent resort....even has an indoor pool area if the weather is crummy.

Any info on it would be great!

Thanks so much!

Friends of my dd's stayed here two summers ago so I got to see it. For the price it wasn't bad at all. Some parking was underground which was nice. Their condo had 2 b/r's, 2 baths, a decent kitchen and a nice screened porch with a view of the ocean; beach cute decorating The entry doors face the courtyard (the buildings are a big open square/rectangle) and I had the feeling that sound would echo and it could be noisy at times. Pool and tennis courts looked nice. There's a long private boardwalk to the ocean...very pretty how it goes over the marsh. However, it's a looooong walk in the hot sun, so bring something with wheels to help you haul stuff to the beach. I think you'll enjoy your stay a lot....I know our friends did.

Dis-Happy: THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Sounds exactly like I am expecting.

They did tell us that their is a golf cart shuttle for the boardwalk area. I figured it might be noisy and am planning on bringing a couple fans for white noise at night.

I'm only paying $1100 including taxes for the ENTIRE MONTH of July (we'll only be there for about 2 1/2 weeks though....so I really can't complain. This owner preferred taking less money to make sure the place was rented. It normally rents for $695 a week so $1100 for 4 weeks is a steal.

Now I'm really excited!!! THANK YOU AGAIN!

Wow, that sounds great! Let me know if you want a Dis-meet during the month of July. BTW, golf carts are electric so they aren't noisy. But a white noise machine is always on my must-pack list anywhere we go.

We used to go to HHI every year for years. My folks liked a seafood place called Hudson's. Is it still around? It was an older place that had been there for years when were were going. I'm not a seafood eater so it wasn't as impressive to me.

I'd like to try going to HHI again sooner than later. Maybe use our DVC. It is a beautiful place.

Hudsons is a place that another poster wrote about: "Do yourself a favor, Hudson's Seafood is far superior to the Sea Shack and you can sit in the comfort of a restaurant with a full bar and live entertainment outside."

So sounds like we should check it out.

Yes...that's what I was going to say. OP may have been told that she could use the beach entrance at the DVC Beach House. The parking lot and beach access is "public" to those inside the PD gate. Also, they have a public window on the outside of the Beach House to purchase refreshments (from the same facility as those DVC folks inside the Beach House facility). They might even have a public restroom-- I can't remember.

At any rate, the entrance to the DVC facility is gated separately from the public access area, is keycard activated, and accessible only to DVC guests.

However, once you are on the beach---it really doesn't matter!

I am pasting a quote from a TR that Chum, who lives on Hilton Head, responded to. :)

"I just wanted to shed some light on the parking over at the beach DVC location in Palmetto Dunes.

Way back when, the site of the DVC beach house was a crushed shell path that led to a small sand parking lot surrounded with palmettos. This was a beach access spot for owners and visitors in Palmetto Dunes. I parked my car and bike down there many times and enjoyed the seclusion.

When Disney developed the DVC island property at Shelter Cove they also wanted nearby beach access which was few and far between and very expensive.

Disney cut a deal with Greenwood who owned and managed Palmetto Dunes and the sand parking area. Palmetto Dunes agreed to sell the lot for construction of a Disney beach house as long as part of the facility (restrooms, counter service dining, grills, picnic tables, beach access and parking) was still available to Palmetto Dunes owners/guests.

So, that is why you will see those non-DVC minivans crowding what few spaces there are at the beach house. There is a gate to enter the south section of PD where the beach house is located."

Breakfasts: Our favorite is Sunrise Cafe over at Palmetto Bay Marina. Also consider Hilton Head Diner, which is right on 278. There is also an IHOP.

Whoever got a rental for $1100 for a month got a major deal! If we rented our teeny tiny house in Sea Pines it would be more than that for a week during prime time, which July definately is. (We don't rent, so it's sort of neither here nor there, just wanted her to know what a deal she got.)

Last time we went to Hilton Head we took a long-time babysitter who was then in college. She told us about an outing she had done there with her family where they went out on a shrimp boat and actually harvested shrimp, including snapping the heads off and taking some home with them. We reserved a trip on the boat but the Captain cancelled the trip that day due to bad weather. I think it was this boat:

One thing we did do was a kayak outing organized through the Coastal Discovery Museum (the branch just over the bridge onto the island, at 100 William Hilton Parkway), which was interesting and fun.

Captain Woody's, also over at Palmetto Bay Marina is also very good for dinner. Moderately priced.

Would anyone know of a summer-rental place that would allow a small dog. We'd love to go for a few weeks next summer (probably too late for this year) and would prefer to have Molly with us.
We were at Disney's resort over Christmas/New Year and loved it! Too bad they don't allow pets or we would go back again...

Go to www.vrbo.com and look for the paw prints.
I know Beachwalk, Tennismaster and The Greens in Shipyard plantation had some pets allowed villas.
Beachwalk is very close to the beach, across from The Crowne Plaza. The other two are not too far from Beachwalk.
I bet you could find a last minute bargain for this summer. Make an offer, the worst they can do is say no.

That would be me. I'm so happy to hear this. I honestly couldn't believe it at first and thought they were mis-quoting me the rate. But I signed the lease and everything seems to be fine. I thought at first that the place must be a dump. But from what I've found out, it isn't. As long as it's clean, I don't need fancy. They just want it rented and would rather take less money and have it filled. So now I'm really excited!
