We are planning our first trip to HHI the end of next month, and I have lots of questions! We are a family of three with a ds(7), so I have booked a studio. Does anyone know a good location to request for a studio? I have asked for a first floor because I prefer a patio to a balcony. Also, I would love to know if there are rental beach chairs and umbrellas available? Cost?? Also, does anyone know cost of bike rental? Boat rental? Any good family places to eat? Any tips or advise welcomed! Should we bring fishing pole for my ds to fish? One last thing, any pictures??? Thanks!:)

Hilton Head is wonderful.

However, you aren't going to get a patio. All of the "homes" at HH are built well above ground level, due to the coastal nature of the resort.

We love the porches / balconies off the rooms. Usually we ask for the top floor, as we have a better view, and less noise.

There are umbrella and beach chair rentals at the beachhouse. Bikes can be rented at the main HH location. I don't know the costs, as I have never rented them. However I do remember thinking one time that if I wanted beach chairs for several days, it would probably be cheaper to buy some at Walmart, use them, and then throw them away instead of renting at the beach house.

If you call the resort during normal daytime business hours and ask to be connected to the bike rental place, I'm sure they could give you an idea of the bike, boat, etc rental fees.

I recommend the dolphin excursion for a good, very enjoyable boat trip.

Hi,

We stayed at HHI this past August and had a wonderful time. The beach chair rentals are done at the beach house and can be expensive....I want to say about 20.00 for the day but am not sure. There are 2 kinds of bikes you can rent. There are ones for the resort which you rent for your LOS. Those prices were reasonable. There are also the bikes that you rent by the hour on the beach which are more expensive. I am sorry that I do not remember the price. There is a Walmart close by that you can buy beach chairs for great prices. The water is very calm on the beach and would recommend buying inner tubes for hanging out in the water. We bought ours at Walmart too. As far as resturaunts are concerned there are so many to choose from. Down the road there is a Fuddruckers (great hamburgers) and a Cracker Barrell. Shelter Cove has some nice places too. As you go over the bridge to the DVC resort on the left is a small resturaunt with great food. They have nightly music and can be child oriented. If you like chicken wings there is a great resturaunt on the other side of the island that serves chicken wings in 100 different ways (I think its 100....) Its called the Wild Wing Cafe. Its a casual place with a great atmosphere. There is also a Piggly Wiggly down the road from the resort too. Its the local supermarket. I have a bunch of websites if you are interested....I am not too computer suave so Im unsure of how to post them on here but I can email you them if you'd like. Let me know...and I hope this helps!

Hi!
We just got back from Hilton Head a few weeks ago and rented bikes right there at the resort. It was pretty reasonable: $50 for the first 2 bikes and $10 for each additional bike. We also got a trailer for our 4 year old and that counted as a bike. Locks, helmets and baskets were included if you wanted them at no extra charge. Our family of five rented for our entire length of stay for $80. We locked them up right outside our room. Bike riding is one of our favorite things to do at Hilton Head! My kids are still talking about how they rode their bikes on the beach! Have fun!

Does anyone know a good location to request for a studio?
I was interested in this also. We have a studio reserved for next month. I understand most of the studios are in Live Oak Lodge (bldg 11) and bldg 12. Anyone know what the views are here ? Are there studios that face the parking/driveway area ? From the picture in the Member book, it appears that some face the circular driveway and some face the water/marsh ? Anyone know ? Thanks :D

The studios in the lodge and attached building either have views of the marsh or the water. We've stayed in the one bedrooms which always seem to have a lock off studio beside them. We've been happy with the view. In Live Oak Lodge, entry is from a center corridor which runs from the front to the rear of the building, and you have porches on the outside. For building 12, entry is from a porch like corridor on the parking lot side, and you have your sit down porches on the rear facing the marsh.

These two buildings are the only ones reachable by elevator from the main building.

One added benefit - they are very close to the check-in lobby and the 3 PM cookies and lemonade.

SoThisIsLove, I would love to have the website info! Can you pm me?
Also,
Thanks everyone for all the great info! We are getting so excited!
I do have two more questions? Can the kids have noodles or tubes in the pool? And, do studios have DVD or VCRs?
Thanks again!

To find out if studios have been converted to DVD's, I'd suggest you call the HH DVC front desk and ask.

We've seen kids with inflatables in the big pool at the beach house. I don't know if they were legal.

Don't stress too much. You will have lots of FUN at HH. We think it is the best of all the DVC resorts, and we own at HH, Vero, and WDW on-property.
