We are staying in at Hilton Head for the first time. We have a 2 bedroom reserved for the beginning of July. Any suggestions on requesting a particular building that is close to the main building and pool and convenient to shuttle. We would live to be close to kid activities since we have young children. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

The resort is so small there really isn't a bad location anywhere. You could walk from the far side to the bus stop in 5 minutes or less. We have stayed in 2BR units there twice and requested and received building 29 both times. We parked in the cul de sac which was very close to that building, it had great marsh views and was close to the pool, activities, etc without being too close to be disturbed by the noise. Buildings 16-20 are probably the most centrally located, it just depends on the type of view you are hoping for.

Here is a map of the resort layout showing the building numbers and their locations:

Ah, that's where that map was. The DIS version is a much better version of the map than the one I posted.

We've only stayed in a 2 br once, and I made a huge mistake, thinking the resort was large. We were slated for 13 (marsh -- grab it if you're offered) and I asked to be closer to the pool for the 3 teens we were with. We got 18, great marsh view, but 13 had magic!!! Now we've been in a studio and got a great inn view.

Enjoy HHI. It is wonderful!

As others have said the resort is small and is so easily walkable, there is not a bad spot!!

We just got back from out first visit in april. We had building 12 (connected to main lobby area) and it has an elevator. You might want to consider that with small kids, especially if you have strollers, etc. great marsh view.

Try for marsh (Boardwalk) view. Those buildings are about the most central between Live Oak Lodge and the pool area.

Are there only lock offs in the elevator building?

Are there only lock offs in the elevator building?

Yes, Buildings 11 and 12 (the two connected buildings serviced by the elevator) have only lock-off 2BR villas - among those are the only HCA villas at the resort. There are 16 lock-off 2BR villas in Buildings 11/12. The only other lock-offs are found beneath the GVs at the resort. There are 5 of those. All of the dedicated 2BRs are in buildings other than 11/12.

The lock-offs are typically not used as 2BRs unless a HCA 2BR is reserved. Since there are only 21 lock-offs they are usually only reserved as Studios and 1BR villas except, as noted, when needed as HCA 2BR villas. There are no other HCA villas at the resort. None of the GVs or dedicated 2BRs are HCA.

Thanks! I've asked the question before, and maybe this time I will remember your answer!;).

We have stayed in 13, 14, 15 and 30. We loved 13 because it was away from everything. We enjoyed 14 and 15 because of the great marsh views (seems like they had larger balconies as well). We also enjoyed 30 because it was very shady, close to the cul-de-sac parking and great place to watch the fireworks. We have enjoyed every visit!

I know I am opening up an old thread, but...

How can you submit room requests? I booked a 2 BR through Orbitz (obviously not with DVC points).

Thanks. I want to have a marsh view again. That was awesome.

So am correct in understanding that there are only 21 studios in the whole resort? And 16 of those are HCA? And if I do not want an HCA room but I do want a marsh view my only option is the studio in Bldg 18? Just checking before I put my room request in. Thanks

This is not correct. There are 21 studios total. Sixteen are in Buildings 11 and 12. Out of these 16, two are HCA, and they are in Building 11.
