No, it has not started yet.I see HH is due for a refurb this year. Has it started yet?
There have not been any leaked pictures of the test rooms. Why a full rehab again this time?
Do you have pics of the test rooms?
Thanks!
I'm only half-joking, but is it possible they they have a glut of MF on hand because there haven't been any major storms hitting the island in the last 10 years so they have cash to burn? Why a full rehab again this time?
I think Hurricane Matthew forced the DVC owners at HHI into a loan from Disney for repairs.I'm only half-joking, but is it possible they they have a glut of MF on hand because there haven't been any major storms hitting the island in the last 10 years so they have cash to burn?
This is correct. https://dvcnews.com/resorts/hilton-...ead-owners-hit-with-bill-for-hurricane-damageI think Hurricane Matthew forced the DVC owners at HHI into a loan from Disney for repairs.
I think it just got paid off in 2021.
I just noticed on the pocket guide for DHHIR that was released in Feb. 2022 a change in the theming:Although only speculation (although seasoned with some logic), the refurbishment isn't likely to start until after the high season here on the island. That season is essentially here with the advent of the various spring break weeks upon us, followed by graduations, Memorial Day, summer, July 4th, and running through roughly a week after Labor Day. Taking any buildings out of commission during the months of March through September would exacerbate an already crowded time for the resort. However, it's gotten to the point now where the only real "dead" season is a collection of a few weeks from mid-Jan through mid-Feb.
Yes, Hurricane Matthew was a biggie for the island with lots of flooding, loss of power, downed trees, et. al. No one allowed in for three days. The resort weathered it fairly well as structures go, but obviously there was significant flooding and the like.
The refurb is needed because the furniture and furnishings are beat up, especially the couches and bedside tables and other hard goods. While the last hard refurbishment wasn't too long ago, keep in mind that literally hundreds of thousands of people come through a resort in any given year, and some of them are really rough on the furnishings. While most guests are good stewards, it might surprise you how many are not and what they do to rooms. Besides, it's time to get rid of those "sliding couches."
I'm sure the rooms will look clean, crisp, and neat, though they'll lose a good bit of the fishing lodge vibe that was the original theme of the resort when it opened in 1996.
A subtle, yet distinct, change from the current theming. Ironically, the pictures they've tossed in there are from a bygone era before the last renovation/refurbishment. The rooms don't look like that now, though the furniture is largely the same--LOL--and they'll look nothing like the picture when the refurbishment is complete.I just noticed on the pocket guide for DHHIR that was released in Feb. 2022 a change in the theming:

sad to see the original theming for DHHIR change for the new refurb...

Other noteworthy things: a) they list bus and boat as transportation options. Well, there is the resort shuttle to/from the Beach House but there are no Disney boats, and I just don't see that returning. Heck, they don't even rent kayaks anymore. b) Signals is closed except to sit inside and eat offerings from Surfman's Sand Bar which isn't even mentioned. Granted, the Bar uses the Signals kitchen, but technically you neither order or pay at Signals. c) Dolphin & Nature Discovery Boat Rides are also not actually Disney, though they do "partner" with a nearby company in Shelter Cove, i.e., the company is recommended. d) Legendary storytelling...ummm, not any more.
We'll be there in a couple weeks, camera at the ready and ears open for any news on the rehab, especially since there are a couple items I want to buy from the current rooms if they're not keeping them.Any update on the refurbishments? Have they begun yet? Any new pictures. I really hope they redo the bathrooms. They are really problematic and dated.
In another thread it sounds like the refurb has been delayed and will not be beginning until next Summer.
