Hilton Head question

I was told that there are elevators inside the buildings to get from one floor to the next at Hilton Head. The CM told me that there are steps you need to go up to get into the building. Is this true? We have a new baby and I am worried about having to deal with lots of stairs. I can handle a few, but walking up 2 or 3 flights of stairs with 3 kids does not sound like fun to me. Does anyone know?

If you stay in the Lodge building, there is an elevator. All of the other buildings scattered throughout the property have stairs only, no elevators. If you have a first floor villa, you will have one flight of stairs - if you are upstairs you will have three. We were upstairs on our last trip (last week!!) and the only time it was really burdensome was when we first checked in and had to lug everything upstairs. After that it was no big deal. If you have very small children you might want to request a first floor unit, but you'll have someone overhead. Might be best to ask for the Lodge, but I don't know if they have villas of each size there - someone else will know!!!

I was at Hilton Head in May. My memory is there were only 4 or 5 stairs to get to your villa on the first floor. I would request a first floor room. Good luck and congrats on your new family member.

Only buildings 11 and 12 (which make up the Live Oak Lodge) have elevator access, but there are no 2BR villas (except HCA lock-offs) in those buildings.

No other buildings have elevator access and there are no villas at ground level. As mentioned, the first level villas are up a flight of stairs -probably about 6-8 steps - the second level villas are up another two flights- about 15-20 total stair steps. (There are no villas higher than 2 levels except those with elevtaor access.)

I think all the 1-BRs and studios in the Lodge are lockoffs so that they can be used as 2-BRs. For instance, if someone books a 2-BR HA, they'd have one in the main lodge. So I suppose it IS possible to get a 2-BR with an elevator, but highly unlikely.

Simba'sMom is correct, all accommodations in the Live Oak Lodge are lock-off 1BR villas and Studios. It is possible to get a 2BR HCA villa this way.

MS will usually NOT allow a lock-off 2BR villa to be reserved- except as needed for HCA. Since the resort has a possible maximum of 21 Studios and 1BR villas, they won't normally reserve them as a 2BR. (I have asked in the past and have been denied.) There are 76 dedicated 2BR villas (and 5 GV's) at the resort - none with elevator access.

We have reserved a 1 bdrm villa for next June. I requested a non-handicap accessible villa. The primary reason for this request is that I want to be sure to have a bathtub. Do all of the 1 bdrm villas have a tub? Is it the studio portion of the room that has the accessible shower?

A polite reminder to those heading to HHI, please remember if you are in a second floor unit that there are folks below you, and sound dampening construction techniques apparently weren't high on the list when the resort was built. We were bombarded by a family of five above us our last night, and I truly don't believe they were doing anything exceptional like throwing furniture or smashing TVs--they were just a nice, typical family. But, just the running around sounded like a continuous, violent thunderstorm directly overhead. Though hauling luggage and small kids up three flights of steps might not be fun, it's what I will do on our next trip since the upside will be better odds for a good night's sleep.

Keep in mind that the lodge building itself does not have 'ground floor' villas either. The ground floor is the parking garage. So even in the lodge it's a minimum walk (or elevator) up to the first floor. If you're on a higher floor, you'd want to take the elevator.

It's my understanding that nothing is actually build directly at 'ground level' because of possible high water flooding should a hurricane go that direction.

FeeleyFans: We just got back from HHI. I have two kids (4 and 1). We did the "first floor" which was about 3 steps to the landing and another 6 (or so) steps from there. It wasn't too bad -- my husband even carried my son in his stroller up the steps. However, I am glad we were not any higher (especially with the heat).

Except... It sounds like sleepydog25 and I had the same upstairs neighbors. Luckily, they didn't keep up the noise too late in the evening, but, it was a bit loud at times.

This is true, for Patriots fans. Eagles fans get an elevator in all buildings.

Just kidding, the first floor villas, outside of building 11 & 12 (main lodge) are just a few steps. We prefer the main building for just this reason.
