Hilton Head off season

We are contemplating adding a stop in Hilton Head in mid January as an add-on to our annual WDW trip but given how ridiculously cheap the points chart is I worry that it will not be that pleasant. I know that Florida weather can be hit or miss in January (and it was downright cold this past year when we visited), and this is even further north.

What do you think? Worth a visit? We went to Kiawah in May 2021 and I fell in love with that area. I know it will be too cold to go in the ocean but I would be perfectly content to ride my bike to the beach and go for long walks after work. Maybe head to Savannah one evening? What else is there to do off season?

In part this is a test trip to see if we would want to go back with family, so I don’t want to get the wrong impression of the resort.

Thank you!

I’m probably going with my mom so I won’t have nearly as much fun! 🙂
It’s nice to have positive associations with the place. At least until she becomes a teenager. Then you may swear off it for a couple of years.
In all seriousness, HHI is a great place to go relax and eat. I'm not a big fine dining person but they have a very long list of casual and just-above-casual restaurants that are great. Just don't go in January expecting it to be a beach vacation.

When I was stationed in Cherry Point NC we would stay a night at HHI Resort on the way down almost every trip to help break up the drive. In my opinion the Resort is beautiful and the SC weather is good to enjoy the area during any season.

My wife and I were there last year in February and enjoyed it. We were there for the same reason, to check it out for future vacations. We stopped there on the way back from WDW. It was quiet and the weather was mild. It was pleasant to be out, warm in the afternoon, chilly in the morning and evening. Sort of like New England in early October. Meanwhile it was snowing at our house in CT so we stayed an extra day. Had Mickey waffles on the dock (it was sweater weather in the morning). We checked out the resort and the beach house. Rode to the beach house on the shuttle, walked back. Drove around the island, went to some stores and restaurants. All in all a pleasant trip.

I would expect temps in the 50s and 60s during the day there in January. You could hit at a time with warm weather in the 70s, or unusually cold weather dropping below freezing overnight.

My daughter was conceived at HHI during Super Bowl XLVIII.

So there's that.
We simulated that, but we are past the age where we would get that outcome.

Weather can be anything in Jan. on HHI.
We went twice to HHI in Jan. this year.
One day it was 70 degrees.
The next time we went, it was 40 degree.
Either way, the low points chart and plenty of things to do on/near HHI is a fun draw for a trip in Jan.

The January point chart is incredible there! Cheaper than a Value room at AKL in September.
We stayed 1 night in jan in a studio for 6 points!
We stayed 1 night in jan in a 1 bedroom for 14 points!
In January, we went swimming 1 day in 70 degree weather. The next day was 35 in the am.

And in January, if you do go out to eat, you won't have to make dining reservations or fight traffic to get there. Or if you choose to hit Kroger and eat in your villa all the time, I predict that the shelves will be fairly well stocked there. We went to Kroger the Friday evening before a busy holiday week and the shelves were pretty well depleted.

Go. We live in Sav and purposely use our points to go to HHI during the off season. Less tourists. Easier to navigate the island and enjoy the peace and quiet. The cast members at this resort are the best in all of Disney. It’s a great trip any time or season.
