We are thinking about trying out the Disney Hilton Head resort next summer. How hard would it be to get a 1BR at 7 months? We are looking at late June through mid July. Also, our kids are older. They will be 15, 18 and 21. Is there enough to keep us busy at the resort or in the area? Thinking about just spending time together, really. Also, please tell me about the beach. What about weather - really hot, like Orlando in July hot? Thanks for any and all information.

Really, it will be pretty difficult to get a 1 bedroom at HH during the period you are asking about, if you have to book at 7 months. That's the busiest time for HHI, and there are fewer 1 bedrooms and studios then 1 bedrooms.

As far as things to do, there's a myriad of things, and yes it is hot! I was just there the week after 4th of July.

Check out the HHI thread, its full of information. Try this thread:

We wound up buying points at HH, we could not get in at 7 months, we are happy we did!

Thanks for the information. We will try at 7 months knowing its a good possibility we won't be able to book it. As much as I'd like to buy more points, with 2 kids in college, it's not going to happen any time soon ;)

I would avoid 4th of July week because that is the busiest week of the year on the island. The stores, restaurants, etc are packed. We were there the first two weeks of July this year and it was a noticeable difference in crowds the second week.

If you can't book on points you can always try the DVC cash discount or booking directly with the resort. That is how we are staying in a few weeks since we waited too long to book with points.

Or rent points, then rent your points out to cover the difference.

One of the reasons I want to buy in there. But since we live 5.5 hours away, a two or three day stay is plenty for us. I like the thoughts of a long weekend in the summer or early October.
