Does anyone know of a nice condo / house available for rent in Hilton Head / Myrtle Beach? We will be sharing the cost with my sister-in-law and I'd like to keep our share to under $1200 if possible. (One week) We are taking my in-laws somewhere for their 50th anniversary in 2012. Looking there or southern Florida. There will be 7 adults and no children. We can all stay in one (4 BR/4 BA) or in three separate units. Just curious if anyone has stayed there. Thanks!

Are you looking for Hilton Head or Myrtle Beach as they are at opposite ends of SC? We have been going to HH for 38 years and love it. You could very easily rent a 4 bedroom house with private pool for that cost. TRy resortquest.com or seapines.com. WE have rented through both and have been extremely happy. What time of year are you looking to go?

Right, 2 totally different parts of the state and 2 totally different types of places.

My vote is Hilton Head....by a landslide.

I would suggest looking on vrbo.com or homeaway.com for rentals.

We are renting a 2 bedroom villa in the Palmetto Dunes Plantation for two weeks in August and are paying $800 a week. This includes taxes, cleaning fee and two rental bikes. This is on Hilton Head..
We rented through vrbo.com.

Have fun planning!

I know they are two completely different places. We haven't decided where to go just yet. Exploring all of our options. Most of us have never been to South Carolina and all have been to Florida many times, so we are leaning in that direction. Just wanted to get input from others who have been there. We will be going in the summer which is peak season, but I am a school teacher, so that is really our only option. Thanks for the input so far.

Have you looked at the Disney Resort at Hilton Head? We stayed there last summer and LOVED it. We just loved HH in general, such a clean, nice town, very charming, so I'm sure you'll have fun wherever you decide to stay. The Disney resort was great, just what you'd expect from Disney. They have fireworks behind the resort and it looked like the entire town was coming to see them, so there were cars everywhere and people parking and hiking trying to find a viewing spot... it was so nice just to sit on our balcony and watch them! We had a 1BR so not sure about the cost of a 2BR, but you could rent DVC points and stay there reasonably. Better make the reservation now though, it's a small resort and books quickly.

I don't know when your district starts school, but my mom and sister are both teachers and we always go the middle to the end of Aug when rates dip. Check the various company websites to see when rates change. I would rather HH overt MB. MB is very touristy IMHO. As a pp said nice clean, family oriented town with great restaurants and beaches.
Your other decision needs to be where you want to stay on the island; north, middle or southern end. Most people think of HH as the southern end where the candy cane striped lighthouse is located in Harbour Town. You might know this icon from the Heritage golf tournament held every year in April. Enjoy your planning and your special trip. FYI last year we rented a 4 bedroom home with a private pool in Sea Pines (southern end) the middle 2 wks of Aug and it was ~$850 a wk per family and we split it with my parents and my sis and bro in law. So $850 per family for 1 wk. That was thru seapines.com
