Hilton Head Island Seafood

Let's talk South Carolina seafood We're going down December 17 for four nights in a 1 bedroom. I've kinda scoped the scene but just online. We're going to try and stay close to the island as we're doing lots of other driving.

Places we're interested in:
Bluffton Oyster Company and/or Seafood house
Low Country Backyard (I've read their shrimp and grits are tasty)
The Sea Shack

Also, I know oysters are in season, but what about shrimp? Any recommendations on fish that is really good this time of year?

We might also have to visit the cookout while we're down there

I had to laugh about seafood and Hilton Head. There's something about driving over that bridge onto the island that turns me into a seafood fanatic. We also like Kenny B's-their fried scallops are great! Black Marlin (can't remember what I had, but it was seafood), Poisedon fish and chips, at the Sea Shack I had grilled shrimp and it was delicious, Salty Dog was OK but their she-crab soup was excellent (come to think of it, I haven't met a She-crab soup I didn't like!). Enjoy-we just came back, also from a 1 BR and had a wonderful time.

the skull creek boathouse also generally gets good reviews for seafood.

the parmesan grouper is great at the santa fe cafe. and it's not locally sourced, i'm sure, but i love the lobster mac and cheese at frankie bones.

i also enjoyed the seafood at charlie's l'etoile verte. (charlie's feels a bit more fancy to me in terms of atmosphere.)

but there are a ton of great options...

Another vote for Skull Creek--but it's busy. Topnotch boil, but did I mention it can be busy? Black Marlin is solid. Hudson's is usually good.

We're from Maine so I'll probably skip the Mac and cheese, there's one in Rockland I'm addicted to (See link below. The cheese hides the ridiculously large chunks of lobster. They use lobster butter in it too )

We're looking for wicked fresh, local in season food. And I don't mind cooking it myself. I found a recipe for panfried oysters I'd like to try.

Sea Shack certainly, Skull Creek Boathouse, Old Oyster Factory come to mind. But lots of places serve good seafood. Alexanders close has great early bird. Unless it's changed, OOF will do 10% off AND honor the free salad coupon easily found. Salty Dog's and Crazy Crab in Sea Pines are very good. I know SK had some damage but they might be open now. I have a soft spot for Crazy Crab because of the location and how nice they've been to us doing family meals with 30-40 people.

If I remember right, Alexanders has closed permanently from after Hurricane Matthew. Is that the one in Palmetto Dunes? If so, I think it's closed.

I checked, you're right, what a shame. It was a nice place. Redfish is the same company I believe along with the OOF.

This breaks my heart! My DH and I ate there for the first time last year right after our 25th anniversary vow renewal. In fact, we ate there right before the picture of us in my avatar was made. It was absolutely delicious! We went again in October right before we were evacuated from the hurricane. We decided right then to make it a yearly tradition. We had no idea that they were planning on closing. I'm kind of glad I didn't know because it would have made for a sad dining experience. I will miss them so much!

OP, as far as other restaurants on the island, I highly recommend Skull Creek Boathouse and the Sea Shack, as others have mentioned. Those are must-dos for us each time.

I, too, am sorry to hear Alexander's has closed. We just discovered it last July and were very pleasantly surprised.
