Has anyone been there during this time? Will we be able to swim in the ocean or will it be too cold? Thanks.

We were at HHI the last week in April three years ago. For us, the weather
was great and the water was fine. If I remember correctly, the water temp
was in the low 70s. Coming from New Hampshire, this was great. However, not
many other people were going in the ocean. So, it all depends upon what
temperature you like the water.

We've been twice in late April and the ocean temp is around 70- we are from the eastern end of Long Island tho so 70 is about as warm as it gets around here!!

HH is great in April (or any other time :))

I know there is a marina nearby. Can you rent boats there? Also, has anyone ventured off the island and headed to Savannah for a day trip? :flower:

We rarely venture off the island, but this year we started our trip with two nights in Savannah before checking into DHHIR on Sunday. We thorougly enjoyed it. The riverfront area has tons of shops and restaurants. Others in our group took one of the trolley tours, but DD and I chose to walk around (she had been to Savannah before; I hadn't). Since it was the 4th of July weekend, there was a riverfront festival (I think it was only for the 4th of July weekend; maybe they have them every weekend in the summer?)

Beaufort is another cute place to visit for a day -- it's smaller than Savannah, but we have enjoyed spending the day there. Charleston is also great, but it's a little further away, and IMHO there's more to see there, so a day trip might be squeezing in a bit too much.

Don't be surprised, though, if once you settle in on Hilton Head, you have no desire to leave the island!!! ;)
