We keep going back and forth on when to try out HH. From what I understand, the summer is very hard to get at the 7 month window. That is fine with me since I don't like it HOT or crowded. However, it sounds like we can get a 2 bedroom in May or Sept. - January without much of a problem.

We have 2 kids (5 and 7). While everyone enjoys swimming, we would all be okay if it was too cold to swim. We like to walk, bike ride and build sand castles. I assume we can do that any time of the year?! Here are my questions:

1. Are there year round children's activities?

2. Will there still be a good selection of family type restaurants open in the off seasons?

3. If you could go any month (except June, July and August), which month would you pick and why?

4. December 1 - 17th points are very low. Has anybody been during this time? Is there anything to do then?

Thanks for all of your help!

Lisa

The resort has a great children's program year round, so there would be no lack of activities there.

There are over 300 restaurants on the island and most are open year round. You won't have a problem finding a suitable dining spot.

Sept- late Oct are still warm enough to enjoy swimming in the ocean. Walks on the beach, shelling and sand castles are year round activities. Nov- Dec are very pleasant times- with brisk evenings and comfortable daytime temps. Jan- mid Feb will have an opportunity for "winter", but no snow or ice likely. (They do get an occasional freezing day). Late Feb- early April will find air temps ranging from the mid 60-s to mid 80's and late April and May will find the ocean beginning to warm and air temps following.

We've been to HH at most times of the year and can find something enjoyable about every season. The resort is great about having activities for everyone, plus a trip to Savannah or Charleston is always a nice event for everyone.

The resort pools are heated year-round and even the winter months will have days when temperatures are inviting enough to enjoy a swim. There are miles of bike trails on the island, canoeing, kayaking, Dolphin cruises, shelling, nature walks, golfing, tennis and so much more.

Enjoy!

Thanks so much Doc for all the great info. We are leaning towards the first week in December. You can't beat 14 points a weeknight for a 2 bedroom!

I would advise you that if you have your hearts set on building sandcastles that it will probably not be an option in December. The wind on the beach along with the lower temperatures would make that not very much fun. I understand that you are attracted to the lower points in early December. But as you know there is usually a reason why the points are lower at certain times of the year.....a very slow travel time and potential very cool temperatures would be the reasons for this time of the year at HH. The resort is great but the biggest attraction for our family at HH is the water related activities....great resort pool and wonderful beachhouse area and pool. Just thought that I would add a different perspective. We love early May. The ocean is warm enough and the island is not extremely busy.

Thanks BaileyBrad! My DH agrees with you. He wants to try the May time frame. I really don't care. I just want to try HH! Thanks again for the information.
