We are arriving on Christmas Eve, and I haven't decided if we want to cook (just hubby and I) or go out for Christmas dinner. That is, of course, if there are even any dining options open for Christmas. Any advise or knowledge on this matter?

I would check one of the major hotels, like the Westin or Crown Plaza. They usually have very nice buffets for the holidays. I believe reservations are required.

You can maybe try the local HH newspaper (www.islandpacket.com) to see if they say anything?

Have fun! We go for Thanksgiving every year, but make our own dinner in the villa. Can't go without those turkey sandwiches the rest of the weekend!

We were at HH last Christmas. A lot of the restaurants are closed on Christmas day itself. Our favorite restaurant on the island is Stripes. Debbie, the owner is really lovely and helpful. We had my father in laws 80th birthday party there last December and everyone in the extended family just raved! We did do Christmas Dinner in our villa. It just felt more like Christmas. We had 6 2 bedroom villas between our extended family and everyone prepared something for the feast. We needed an extra banquet type table (we did a buffet) and the recreation director brought one over along with a delicious platter of cookies. Because we also celebrate Chanukah and I stupidly forgot my food processor to make my potato latkes, one of the cast members lent me one from home. The cast at the Hilton Head resort is amazing! Have a great trip.

Thanks guys. I called the resort and they don't do anything (prepared food to purchase) on Christmas like they do for Thanksgiving, and the larger hotels that I called didn't have any info yet for Christmas. But, I've decided that we'll just cook in since we'll probably be dining out quite a bit in Savannah and HH during the rest of the stay. Thanks for the info!

Have a great time! Take some candles (votive) to put on a saucer to dress up your "table" or if it's warm your picnic table on your porch. We always take a battery powered lantern for the picnic table because there aren't outside lights and it's nice to sit outside and eat or read or just enjoy the sounds especially if the weather is mild.

I just got the offerrings from Piggly Wiggly at Shelter Cove. I was looking for Thanksgiving meals, but it appears they'll also offer this for Christmas. Like you, we're only 2 people and we didn't want as much as the resort has for Thanksgiving. They'll (P/W) be having a turkey or ham dinner. Feel free to PM me if you want all the specifics. It's a pretty good deal, and they talk about "holiday" dinners, not just Thanksgiving.

There is also a Fresh Market just down the road that might have wonderful things to offer. The one around here has great gourmet item. You might be able to place your order ahead of time. :)
