Hilton Head 7 month availability

I heard it is very difficult to get into HH at 7 months in peak season. It’s my first time around with DVC but I am looking to book a 2 bedroom or 1 bedroom in mid May. Does anyone know how difficult this will be ? I don’t think May is peak season yet.

Yeah I don't think peak season really starts at HHI until after Memorial Day. So you might be okay, particularly for a 2 bedroom since the resort has so many of them.

I'm not sure May isn't a peak season. Although I agree that it's less difficult than the summer, it may be a challenge, at least for a 1 BR. I don't know about a 2 BR, but now I wish I did. We tried for a couple years to get a 1 BR for the last week in April, but no luck. It never dawned on me to try for a 2 BR, since there are so many more of them available.

After not being able to book HHI a few times at the 7 month window, we picked up a resale contract for the resort. It definitely seems like one of those resorts where the owner's priority is really necessary.

It’s a small resort and about 60% of the rooms are dedicated 2BR. If you go into it with the expectation of a 2BR then you should be ok. Might have to waitlist a night or two. Good luck!

I was able to easily get a 2 bed for mid May at the 7 month mark. There are far more 2 beds than 1 beds of which there are only 21. So, assume that you'll need to spend the points for a 2 bed.

Actually, the Cast Members there recommend late September/early October for best water temps and air temps (they admit that summertime often gets too hot!

It can be difficult to get into HHI at the 7 months, period. To get into HHI during the peak season is extremely difficult. While the peak season does officially start Memorial Day weekend and goes through Labor Day weekend, the spring break months (Mar/Apr), as well as the holiday months (mid-Nov thru NYE) are nearly equally tough to snag at 7 months. You can always find posts where people were able to get those blocks of months last minute, but it's just not easy.

As others have said, however, the ability to get a 2BR is much more likely regardless of when you book as the majority of the resort consists of 2BRs. Getting a 2BR in early to mid-May is possible--booking one in late May at 7 months is unlikely. Someone mentioned you might have to waitlist a day or two and that is true.

June: not so much as the water temp is still fairly cool, relatively speaking, until late June
July: good to very good by late in the month
Aug: good
Sep: good
Oct: water temp is usually okay early in the month, but the days will get cooler as a general rule

I couldn't help but notice you didn't ask the best month to sit by the fire in your grand villa.

The grand villa's are really nice there but I'm not lighting the fire in July

January and February are more likely to be "cold enough" for a fire, but then again, "cold enough" varies by where you're coming from. We live on the Texas Gulf Coast, so we might turn on our fireplace when those guys from the Northeast US are running around in t-shirts!

I am one of those that is always cold. I run my portable heater every night while my wife runs her fan

Yes indeed, I visited my sister on Hilton Head Island during Easter which was in March that year, and my wife, my niece, and me were the only people on the beach who dared go in the water...... it was much warmer than the Maine ocean water in August that we were use to.
