Our new addiction.....we call them hillbilly horseshoes. It is a 2' X 2' box made of 2X4's with a plywood bottom. You screw a coffee can in the middle and throw big (about 2") washers. Oh....and you put sand in the "box" and can......

Anyone hear about these?? It is actually getting pretty popular around campgrounds since it is a portable game and you can play right at your site.

I would like to post a picture of ours....since they are pretty cool looking....we used purple sand. But I don't know how....if someone would post them for me.....please let me know and I will email you the pics.

Took them to a party last weekend and everyone wants DH to make them a set......

Hi,
I was home in Erie,PA last weekend and was at a family picnic. Relatives had this game all set up but called it Polish Horseshoes!
It was fun but hard to do at first.:)

Hillbilly horseshoes = cornhole.

The dimensions of the box seems right, but I've seen multiple holes, and the box is angled making it easier to get the corn in the hole. You stand about 30 feet from the box and throw corn.

Went to a restaurant in Kentucky that was installing a lighted cornhole "court."

I guess the corn would be easier to find then the washers.....DH and I spent about 15 minutes yesterday looking for a washer in the grass....when we finally "gave up"......we discovered we both had 3 in our hand and weren't missing one!!!

Eventhough we painted the washers bright colors.....you still loose them easily.....especially after a few "cold ones"....LOL!!

Did a Google on Hillbilly Horseshoes and only came up with this:

Somehow I don't think that's what you were talking about. Hillbilly Horseshoes is probably the youngest variation of a game called Quoits which is popular in the Lehigh Valley. Here in the valley they made slate boards with a hub (metal post) in the middle. You throw 1/2 pound rubber quoits (like a doughnut) and try to get a ringer.

I know that they also make metal quoits. I believe that the game you might be playing is really called Washers.

Some people call them washers too....but the people we discovered the game through called them hillbilly horseshoes.....

If someone could post some pics of them for me.....you could see what they are.....
