You know, I've never been to either KY or WV but I give people benifit of the doubt - racism is a serious allegation and I don't assume that people are racist until they do something to prove that they are racist. I would be livid if I lived in either one of those states and heard that on CNN. They're lumping that large % of people as uneducated and racist?

.. oh well, wait. They've decided that most of Hillary's supporters are uneducated and racist - haven't they? (Sorry, but I have a 4 yr degree and am not racist - I judge a person by character and not skin color!)

But still, back to my other point about North Carolina? If I were to make the same analogy with that state that's made above with KY and WV - it's going to be different isn't it? I'd be called a racist wouldn't I?

Okay, I hardly ever get into online arguments, (I usually try to stop them) but this upsets me. PixieDust is making discriminatory remarks about the Appalachian people. How sad that someone who claims to support a candidate who is running a supposed all-inclusive campaign thinks it is okay to dismiss an entire social group as racist and uneducated. Even sadder if he/she is correct that CNN did so as well.

You are absolutely right that there is a double standard in play here. I have seen this before as I have family who live in that region. Some white people who claim to be liberal think it is perfectly acceptable to denigrate and stereotype people from the Appalachian region, yet they would be horrified if the same were done to any other social group.

It's very upsetting and not at all in line with true liberalism.

Then they wonder why people call them out on elitism. :confused3

Somehow I feel it's different if i am supporting someone of my own race or gender than it is voting against someone of a different race or gender. I can see women voting for Hillary because they really want to see a women succeed in a high position. To vote against Hillary just because she is a women seems unfair.

And you're right, accusing people of racism is a serious allegation, but polls show a rather high number of people who voted for her saying they woudn't vote for a black person.

Hillary lost by a huge percent in North Carolina. Should we cry racism in that primary? :confused3

It's only racism if the whites vote for Clinton. If the blacks vote for Obama that's just "solidarity" For what it's worth, I think there are just as many men who would not vote for Clinton just because she is a woman, but there is little talk of sexism.

This talk of racism bothers me. I understand that it's likely a factor but is it really enough of one to cause a state to support Hillary? Also, aren't people who are ignorant enough to be racists usually sexists too?

This makes me wonder if the actual election won't turn into somewhat of a racial struggle. :(

Sexism is still socially acceptable, Sweetie. ;)

I guess because in states like KY and WV with low income and less educated people they go for the race, they don't know otherwise.
They see a black person and they just see the color of the skin and all the know about them. They feel more comfortable with a white person. They have no education, in some areas of course.
They said that in CNN last night.

I was glued to CNN all night and am still watching and listening and that is not what they said. They said that according to phone calls it seems that 1 out of 5 said that there voting had to so with Race. Nothing about them being stupid or less educated and that they dont know better ...that is wrong. They said nothing about most of what you said...if they had they would have been blown out of the water....

Could this be you adding in your own opinion? So than since many of Obamas black votes come from poor black voters(media's words not mine when talking about how generouse OS are being there demograhics and incomne)...does that mean the same that they are just stupid non educated dont like white people and just dont know any better voters....so they went with what was familiar to them ...the color of the mans skin...PALEEEEZE....both remarks are insulting.

I say try again. You listened wrong.

Hillary does have a GREAT case for the SD's!!!!!!:thumbsup2 Now if they do what they are suppose to do (Which is pick the Strongest Democrat candidate who can actually win in Nov) or not...remains to be seen.
:goodvibes

FYI, FL and MI don't count and there's NOT going to be any compromise that will put Hillary over the top for the nomination.

So you're ok with 'rigged" elections no matter what they are called???:confused3

I see Barack is back to wearing a flag pin!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

So much for his stance on that!:rolleyes1

I for one am glad he is wearing the pin. It shows he has common sence. When it was upsetting voters that he was not wearing it....a wise politician would wear it.

When he was taking the stance of I do not have to that I was really in doubt of his judgement.

Some media has stated that these states have more people with faith. Why not use that as an example.

Maybe it was about who they trust, and Hillary got their trust more then Obama.
Maybe many of those people that you mentioned only have high school educations. That doesn't make them uneducated. Maybe most are truck drivers, soldiers or regular working class. I tend to believe that they are much smarter then most people who blindly will following a canidate with no expirience.

What does Obama expect? If he’s running for the top position in the country then his entire family is going to be under scrutiny. .

I agree, the media should go after and report on all the canidates families. My point was that since Obama told the media to back off of Michelle, it seems they did. I can't belive that all it took was Obama saying "backoff". It really makes me mad because I want to know more about her views and her past.

So? Based upon something that I just read... are they trying to blame Obama's huge loss as a racial issue?

Hillary is being treated unfairly by the media, as so are her voters.
I think the media is portraying Hillary's win is due to stupid (uneducated) white people who voted for her. The media also says that Obama gets the vote of the smart (educated) people. This is all such a play on words. Why not say Hillary gets the votes of the working class. Obama gets the vote of the inner city poor and the elite.

Oh it definitely will and then when Obama loses people will cry that he lost because he's black and the majority of the US is racist.

I don't like Obama, period. The more I see him the more dislike him. Even though he will most likely be my party's candidate, I can not see myself pulling the level for someone like Obama. I could care less if he was orange or purple or WHITE! The guy turns me so off that I can't even listen to his speeches anymore. He comes on TV and I change the channel. It sounds like he is preaching when he speaks.
Obama speeches remind me of the teacher on Charlie Brown; you know the one who you hear but it comes out "blah, blah, blah"

I am sick of all this racist talk. Can't I not like a candidate just because I don't like what they say? So I MUST like Obama or I will be a racist??? :rolleyes1 PLEEEZE!!!

My husbands opinion is that Obama's voters that are elitist are more socialist in nature. I don't know if they are socialist, but I do know they tend to be more left. I don't like them using those words to describe Hillary's supporters as well as Obama's supporters. I think they are a mix of people voting for who they think would best fill the position of POTUS.

I can't stand his pauses when he talks. It's almost like he forgot the words.

They said last night that he actually reads his speaches from a teleprompter.

I will probably vote for Barack, unless something comes out that really turns me off. With that said, I do respect reasons that HS won't vote for him. My husband and I talk about it a lot and he said he's selling Hope and Change. It's a marketing ploy and he's just another politician and they're falling for it. I tend to think McCain's job is going to much harder than Obama's. I think they mentioned 3 or 4 points on the news last night for McCain to overcome.
I'll list 3, since that's all my head will remember. Not one person was successful being President after these 3 things were present in an election. Now I don't have the data on this, but it sounds about right.

bad war
bad policies by previous Pres
low rating Pres

Between HS and OS, did you guys hear on the news the turnout of Democratic voters overall? I was amazed!!!!! Twice as much turnout than what Kerry had. Unbelievable! :cheer2:

I personally think it's just the crowds and hype that's happening. I still think Hillary is much better at her speeches. I missed her speech last night, so I have to go and look it up. I did catch Obama's. He gave a very decent speech and was very careful with his words. Very smart move on his part.

Actually, he IS white. At least he is just as much white as he is black, which for some reason many people seem to ignore. Perhaps one could argue slightly more white than black when you account for mitochondrial DNA, (we're all ever-so-slightly more our mother's children than our father's) and the fact that he was mostly raised by his white grandparents. But really, who cares?

The reason I am pointing this out is I too am tired of the racial talk. His race doesn't matter, and he is essentially no more of one than the other. I like Hillary better for her views and experience..period. If I thought Obama had better positions on the issues and the experience needed to lead the free world, I would be right in his court. I don't at this time.

If he is the nominee, I will have to consider very carefully who I will vote for in the general. I will keep an open mind during the debates and probably base my decision on how he and McCain answer questions on the issues. I refuse to get caught up in all the extraneous distractions and the partisan pot shots.
