He's there to make up for fighting so hard to ignore their vote. He chose to take his name off the MI ballot at the last minute for stragic reasons. If he was interested in counting all votes he would have stayed on that ballot whether their delegates were seated or not! Let ALL the votes be counted, right?

This is simply untrue. Clinton, Edwards and Obama all signed pledges to remove their names from the Michigan ballot. Edwards and Obama did so. Clinton did not.
This is why their is NO CASE to seat the Michigan delegates as they stand.

Unfortunately, I can't get into this any more. My Mom was taken to the ICU with pneumonia today. Its all I can think about - I lost my passion for this race.

I told Mom in the ER tonight that Edwards endorsed Obama. She was able to make a "I don't like that face."

Any prayers and positive thoughts would be greatly appreciated. ( You don't need to write them down - don't want to hijack the thread here - its just enough that you have them.....)

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama has apologized to WXYZ reporter Peggy Agar for calling her "sweetie" during a campaign stop Wednesday in Sterling Heights.

Yeah, "sweetie" is a dismissive and diminutive term. I call kids "sweetie" not adults. I'm not happy that he called a short, young woman "sweetie" but I'm also not totally outraged. I applaud him for apologizing.

"At the beginning of 2007 there were 38 things candidates could mention in public that wouldn't be considered damaging to their campaigns, but now they are mostly limited to 'Thank you all for coming,' and 'God bless America,'" ABC News chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos said on Sunday's episode of This Week. "There would still be five phrases available to the candidates if the Obama camp hadn't accused Clinton of saying 'Glad to be here' with a little tinge of sarcasm during a stump speech in North Carolina." As of press time, the two additional phrases still considered appropriate for candidates are the often-quoted "These pancakes are great," and "Death to the infidels."


It is so ridiculous how every little word is over analyzed and beaten to death in a campaign....."Sweetie" isn't the worst thing ever...at least he wasn't like McCain and use the "C" word when speaking to his wife.

Back in 1996...I think '96...while campaigning he called her the word in question and a number of reporters heard it. I am suprised that that story didn't spread then, but I guess now with his candidacy we will see many instances of his reportedly hot temper.

No, it's not as bad as the "C" word. Obviously, there is no comparison. HOWEVER, if I were a young professional woman I would feel dismissed by being called "Sweetie" by a man in power. On one hand, I think that "Sweetie" for a woman and "Buddy" for a man is about the same. Both are general and dismissive. OTOH, "Sweetie" is more diminutive. I was wrong for him to call the reporter "Sweetie", but I think that Obama learns from his mistakes so we probably won't hear it again.

What about "ma'am" or "sir"? That's said so much here and I don't like it but only because it wasn't said in other places I lived.

I doubt that Obama will say "sweetie" again either. Unless it slips out without him thinking about it. We get so caught up in words don't we?

I don't like ma'am either. Yesterday I went to the post office and the lady who was behind the counter called me sweetie...I liked it, but I am the type who finds it endearing and it makes me feel young. However, I do see your point about being professional. But one time over this past semester of school, I had to meet once a week with my professor in her office to go over the progress of a paper I was doing. On one occassion, when I was leaving, I accidentally said,"Thank you honey," when she handed me my research log. All I can say is sometimes you slip...I surely wasn't trying to disrespect the woman who has my grade in her hands!!! But a busy day can make you a little confused...cause I don't want to admit I am getting older!!!...but I say this one is much to do about nothing...IMHO, of course.

I honestly think that you (general use of the word 'you') shouldn’t call those you do not know by those terms; you never know who will be offended and who will be fine with it. Like I said, I can certainly see why people are offended. I'm just not. I don't call anyone sweetie or honey unless they are like family or a child. But it wouldn't particularly offend me if someone called me that...unless I felt from the context he/she was putting me down.

Some people in these parts say those words almost like it's punctuation and really mean nothing by it. My FIL used to call everyone "honey"... even men sometimes which I thought was sort of strange. But he didn't mean anything by it.

I dont get offended if a woman calls me it being a woman...but when a man does it to me I find it patronizing...and not endearing. I dont think Obama meant anything by it that way but he still avoided the question. Glad that he apologized.
