Hillary Supporters unite part 2; no bashing please

You won't vote for any Democrat period. What makes you feel better about not voting for Hillary either?

The media has been all over every story that will make people read or listen and therefore make them money. The Rev Wright stories were all over the media as was this lastest thing with the nutty pries. As for Rezko, people don't pay attention to political "scandals" that are about money otherwise the whole Whitewater thing would have sunk Hillary a long time ago.

That's the thing: How many years has it been now since the Whitewater scandal and how much money was spent to try to (unsuccessfully) prove that the Clintons were connected? I think that if the Clintons were involved something would come out by now. But they spent so much money and investigation time and couldn't find anything. That's why Hillary can't get 'sunk' on it. There isn't anything to tie her to it. As for Rezko, he can be tied to Obama.

Considering how Clinton has the best proposed health plan out of the three candidates? :confused3

Which is an excellent reason for you to have supported her in the primaries. However, if she is not on the ballot in November, are you really going to vote for the guy whose health care plan would actually hurt working men and women alike? Apparently, many people on this thread are going to do just that. And why? Because someone at Obama's church - not Obama himself, mind you, and he has never done or said anything to indicate he agrees with those views in over 15 years of public service - said something nasty.

wvrevy, while I would love to believe that the Obamas don't agree with what has been going on in that church for I'm sure a very long time, I just don't buy it. How many times have we heard, you and I and everyone else, that when you hear someone tell a racial or bigoted "joke", and you sit there and say nothing, you are just as bad?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I don't really think we should get into it here, as it is the Hillary support thread, but basically, while I am conservative in many ways, if I am totally uncomfortable with a candidate, I'd vote for who I thought would be best for the country, taking into consideration what issues I am comfortable in supporting. So, if for some reason, in good conscience I couldn't vote for McCain, I could vote for Hillary.

The issue with the Rezko and Trinity church thing is that Obama is suppose to be about change and hope. I don't see it. A very bad person, (Rezko), helps the Obamas buy their house, Obama's church preaches hatred and divisiveness and segregation, there is more racial tension than ever before, and this is unity??? With Obama's friends he doesn't need enemies.

My conscience says we need a president who wants to do something about the health care situation in this country and who is pro-choice.

My conscience does not allow me to judge what a church preaches based on a couple of soundbites I have seen here or there.

That's fine if that is how you feel. I support your right to believe as you do. I support my right to do the same. I just can't believe, from the little I know of your beliefs from what I've read on this board, that you would afford Hillary or McCain or anyone else for that matter, the same benefit of the doubt that you are affording Obama. All I can say is that I sure hope you guys are right, and that you can all say "I told you so", should Obama be the next POTUS. That would be one circumstance when I would not want to be right.

I would afford and have afforded Hillary the same benefit of the doubt. When Hillary made up the story about being under fire in Bosnia I said it was a silly issue and did not affect how I vote. I did not make one comment about the RFK comments but FTR I thought they were stupid but did not think she meant any harm to Obama and thought the media made too big a deal out of like they did the Obama "bitter" comments.

As for McCain, he does not get the same benefit of the doubt because I vote for issues first and personality second. Because he is wrong on the issues he will get no benefit from me.

So based on what you know about my comments you either haven't actually read them or you are reading things into them that simply are not there, which would not be the first time you cons have tried to do this.

Since when does listening to someone mean that you automatically must agree with them? :confused3 I have longtime friends that are staunch Republicans, and we do occasionally talk politics. Should I disassociate myself from them since I so vehemently disagree with their views? Or should I listen to them, learn where they are coming from on those issues where we disagree, and try to find ways of changing their minds?

Yes, Obama felt a connection to the people in his church. Does that mean he agreed with everything they believed? Do all Catholics support the pope even though he had a direct hand in covering up the sexual abuse of children by the clergy? Do all Southern Baptists believe that women are inferior to men and must subjugate their opinions to their husband's?

People choose to stay with a church for many reasons, and not always those that emanate from the pulpit. I would simply ask you to point to one single thing Obama has ever said or done that clearly shows he agrees with the more ludicrous statements that have been made at Trinity. He has a long public record in Illinois to complement his time in Washington, so it shouldn't be hard to find some bill or quote from him that betrays him if he actually holds the beliefs you are trying to pin on him. So...please point that out. Where is the evidence?

There is no evidence, they just have a "feeling" he will do something evil if elected POTUS.

Hey guys, seriously, I think this needs to be moved over to the OS thread. Please give us some respect over here.

Thank you.

I'm not trying to read anything into your comments, just trying to understand. What I mean by benefit of the doubt is not regarding conservative or liberal issues, but regarding negatives related to a POTUS candidate. If the Obamas support the beliefs of Trinity church, I want to know that, if Obama has a relationship with a man like Rezko, I want to know that. I would want to know that info regarding any candidate. What I am saying is that I feel the OS are way too easily dismissing these issues surrounding Obama, and I don't believe the OS would dismiss things like that should it concern any other candidate. As I said before, I highly doubt McCain or Hillary would still have a candidacy at this point.

Hillary did not hurt anyone but herself when she made those Bosnia comments. Trinity Church is hurting many people. Rezko and his shady deals have the potential to hurt others. I don't want a POTUS who bought his home with the help of a mobster. Does he owe him something down the line? What favors are going to be called in should Obama become the next POTUS? You don't get where Obama did the way he did with the speed he did without help. No matter what the OS want to believe, he didn't get to this point because of his personality.

The Trinity church has done a lot for the community - have you gone to their website and seen what they do to help poor people in their community? To disregard all the good they do because of a few insane comments from the preacher is a huge injustice and do you condemn every church that has a preacher that says some offensive things? By that token should the whole Catholic church be held accountable for what that Priest said at the Trinity church? He may have not been speaking in the Catholic church but wearing the priest garb while doing it made him a spokesman for Catholics...

You have my support and respect if indeed you are a Hillary supporter rather than an Obama basher. As I said, I think this thread has evolved and most supporters have left the bashers behind to their thread. I will not bash Hillary, I have lots of respect for her. She's a fine person, a great Senator and a wonderful role model for women/men. I think your ranks have been infiltrated by people who do not/would not ever support Hillary. I'll leave but I suggest you invite them to do the same to retain the integrity of the thread.

I will support her if she gets the nomination.

However, many, many, many Hillary supporters (not just on this thread, but IRL) will not support Obama. Now, you can all go back to your thread and bash us there, but your candidate does not have the votes necessary to win in November without us. Just remember that.

We're supporting her now. You aren't. Hence the title Hillary support thread.

You did not vote for her in the primary -you will not vote for her in the general. That is not support. If a position of Hillary as a lesser evil is welcome in this thread than I fit that catergory because I find Hillary to be the lesser evil to McCain, which you do not.

I know, and I thought it was sickening. I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school until the 8th grade, had my kids baptized in the Catholic church, got married there, etc, but I stopped being Catholic, if one can just stop, LOL, quite some time ago, and it was way before the priest scandals. I just didn't agree with alot of their teachings, so couldn't support saying I was Catholic any longer.

I have no doubt that Trinity church has done many good things, but that doesn't excuse the behavior that goes on there by their pastors, their guests, and the congregation regarding hatred and predjudice. You believe it was a few isolated incidences, I don't. One time is too many in my book. Let's see, weren't members of the Ku Klux Klan also doctors, lawyers, clergy, etc.? I'm sure they did many good things over the years, but it doesn't excuse what they believed behind closed doors.

I personally appreciate your concern for the Hillary thread but we're OK. You might not see the same HS here as much as you once did but that's OK too. And we promise not to invade the OS thread, at least I do.
