Typical? What is a typical white person? :sad2:

I know! I was 18 before I realized I was "white!" I was always Italian and Irish in my mind. I was filling out the census on my family's behalf - and saw all the options that could be chosen.........

Then a black friend asked me why white people liked to dance in the dark. I was like - how would I know! LOL I never noticed that white people danced in the dark!! ;)

I still think that either candidate can beat McCain but only if they play it smart. McCain's not all that, even many of his so-called supporters were totally against him just a few months ago. However, I could see people voting against the Democratic candidate instead of for McCain and that's something that I hope we can avoid.

I can only see the dems beating McCain if they team together. Unfortunately, I've been told many times that this will not happen.

Here is a quote from a radio interview he gave today in PA:

Hmm, a "typical" white person. Really nice stereotyping there, Barak.

:headache: I heard about this breifly on the radio.
Not good!:sad2:

I hadn't heard about any of it. What was he talking about - the point he was trying to make with this?

He is saying on CNN right now, what he meant it to mean, was your good typical person that has fears that are embedded due to their experiences or perceptions.... his grandmother happened to be white, I'm sure if she was Hispanic or any other ethnicity he would have used that.... That it was not that she was racist, but that she held beliefs that were common at the time. Or something to that effect...

My grandfather and FIL were both typical white people that did use phrases I wish they hadn't... but they did...

I think the point he was trying to make was that almost everyone, no matter what race you are, harbors some preconceived notions, and it is more so with the "older generation." But the way he presented it went terribly wrong, and he doesn't think "think on his feet" too well. If he makes these mistakes under somewhat monor pressure in the primaries, he's going to go down in flames in the general election. Imagine the goofs he'll make in International relations if he is really elected president.

Hello, DNC? Super Delegates? Wake up and smell the coffee.

Totally agree with bolded statement. They (politicians) have to watch every word they say - I give them a lot of credit - I couldn't do it!

I so hope Clinton pulls this out!

Its a shame that he's had to elaborate on this - its a sign that his speech wasn't received the same way by all........

This election has raised the sensitivities surrounding race - you've got to choose your words carefully - they can be so easily misinterpreted......

Remember Biden calling Obama "articulate" and the stir that caused......

I accept his explanation, but it was a poor choice of words. He needs to be very careful what he says. He's treading on thin ice. I wouldn't want to think that he feels the "typical white person" is racist. That sure wouldn't sell. I'm already on the fence because of his minister advisor.

Nice Note from America Ferrera:

Celebrating Women: A Note from America Ferrera
by America Ferrera

This entry is part of a series in celebration of Women's History Month.

I grew up in a big family – one brother and four sisters – so my house was always a little bit chaotic. Everyone was always trying to talk over everyone else. I think it’s probably a little like that in households all across America. But every voice represents someone with unique needs, hopes, and concerns.

That’s one of the reasons I’m supporting Hillary, because I know that she’s listening to every single American, and working her hardest on all those issues that truly make a difference in their lives.

The night Hillary won New Hampshire, I danced around my living room and smiled until I couldn’t smile anymore. But after campaigning with her in Nevada, I felt more than just joy; I felt so much pride in her candidacy. When I was there with Hillary and Chelsea, I saw Hillary’s ability to hear above the noise, and to truly listen. I watched her talk with people, and hear what they were saying. I heard her recount their struggles. I heard in her voice just how much she cared about every person we met. I believe in Hillary. I believe there is no problem too large for her to solve. I believe with my whole heart that Hillary can turn this country around.

This election is too important for any woman or man to stand on the sidelines. All across the country, in places like Ohio and Texas, people are feeling the same excitement I am – and they’re going to the polls for Hillary in astounding numbers. I am excited to be in Pennsylvania this weekend on behalf of the campaign. This campaign isn’t just about Latinas, or just about women; but I’m both, and I know Hillary stands for me.

How unfortunate that he has to give two additional clarifications about what he meant to say. Do you think he'll get those chances when he is involved in foreign diplomacy?

John Kerry says Obama has credibility to do things because he's African American. I'd almost prefer him to not support me if I were running.

Duck, I agree, I'd rather not have the support if that's what it meant & Chuck, to be honest I knew what he said in his speech, and I understood what he was saying... I'm sorry other's didn't. That they couldn't draw the correlation... Many did, but some didn't, and that's really sad. The fact that he had to go back and emphasize his meaning, this morning, he didn't go far enough in explaining what he meant... this evening he did. Every panelist on CNN completely agreed with him when they heard his context... These are tricky waters.

But, having said that, at least he's not McCain, who to his credit has had four gaffes in regards to who we are fighting and where they are from, he didn't have to have Lieberman repeat back a question he forgot, and he didn't have to have Lieberman correct him when he referenced an Israeli holiday incorrectly.... all I can say is OUCH!

That bit about "typical white person" caught my eye too but it makes sense in context. He really, really needs to be cautious when he says these things because the other side is in full attack mode already.

Did anyone watch The Tonight Show? John Edwards was a guest. Of course I'm paraphrasing what he said, but you get the idea. He did a good job of talking about unification of the party. He isn't taking sides...says both candidates deserve the support of the whole party, when one of them gets the nomination. I still think he's a class act, but my DH can't stand him.

He is a class act, and he is absolutely correct. And both have my support. :thumbsup2
