It's fairly easy to track the popular vote in primary states and in states where the caucus is really a firehouse primary. But in some of the true caucus states, the only thing we get reported is the count of the delegates to that state's nominating convention where they then apportion the delegates to the national convention. I'm sure party insiders may have that info, but I haven't seen it published.

Anyhow, I think the Supers should follow the will of the people and that means they should vote the leader in pledged delegates meme coming from the Obama camp rests on a false assumption, namely that the will of the people is actually measured by the pledged delegate count. Not even close. Texas is proof enough of that. The will of the people in Texas was made clear. 51-47. The delegate count doesn't reflect that thanks to the after the vote vote. It also shows that caucuses are notoriously bad measures of the will of the people in and of themselves.

Very good points.

The caucuses are really undemocratic.

Yes having a set of rules that all candidates know going in is sooo Undemocratic. This is why, candidates set up shop in the states that they intend to compete in. The fact that the HRC campaign is sooo much worse at it doesnt make it undemocratic.

Do you even understand the purpose of caucuses? Its to build a party base in states that your not typically strong in.

What am I saying, James Carville could be delivering this analogy to you and you would sit and stare blank faced.

No, we don't understand anything. We are all idiots waiting to be spoonfed what we should think by a charismatic leader.

I can't be convinced that its helpful in Texas to have to VOTE TWICE.

And the caucus is not a straight up or down vote. And the party is "built" in Iowa. They shouldn't need to caucus anymore then.

And most of the states were not equipped to handle them.

They need to be replaced by voting - in my humble opinion - regardless of who the candidate is.

From what I understand caucuses are paid for by the national party and primaries are paid for by the state. That's prob. the reason there are no caucuses in the bigger states other than Texas. If this is true, I'm guessing Texes just figured it was a way to bring extra cash into their coffers in the past, for very little effort. Now that there's a chance that people will actually show up at one and cause chaos, they may dump it there.

What is even weirder in TX and even after the caucus, the info is sent in with how many caucus delegates are for each candidate. Yet the delegates are not legally obligated to vote for that candidate. :confused3

Now as for the claim that caucuses are to 'build a party base in states that your not typically strong in'.

The Dems had caucuses in Iowa, Nevada, Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Minn, ND, Wash, Maine, Hawaii, Texas and Wyoming. Of those two only Texas and Wyoming didn't have caucuses for the Rep. side. Wyoming had a convention, which sounds like a big centrally located caucus.

If the first statement were true, then the first 10 states should be the swing states in every election because neither party seems to be strong there.

I wonder what Obama's foreign policy experience is?

What was Bill Clinton's foreign policy experience when he ran? What hurts me - not angers me, but genuinely hurts me - are the comments HC makes which are so similar to the criticism leveled at her husband during his campaign.

"He's just peddling hope, he doesn't have the right kind of experience, he's just an empty suit making pretty speeches..." I worked on Bill Clinton's campaign, worked my hiney off and I cried with joy when he was elected.

So when HC stumped for her husband, when she supported him on the campaign trail - she was just pretending? Based on her statements now, he was unqualified in her eyes. Or has she conveniently redefined what makes a person qualified?

It seems like there's more Obama supporters on this thread than Hillary supporters. Is it just me?

With Wyoming out of the way, now we'll look forward to PA. Makes me proud to be a Hillary supporter. Some of those Obama supporters can get quite agressive by coming on here and being offensive.

Hey I just found this thread and want to join the fun! I'm a Hillary supporter and I am running to be a delegate to the National Convention... is anyone else going to Denver?

Good luck on getting to be a delegate! I barely missed being one for Kucinich in 2004. The party decided that a male had to be the Kucinich delegate so that they could make sure they had equal numbers of male and female delegates.

So did anybody see BO being interviewed on the airplane recently (today?) stating that he had "called Loren Michaels" suggesting "Ok...now we're even...".

AHHHAAHAAAHHHAAAA :rotfl:

:lmao:

:worship: - Amy Pohler

:dance3:

It was Tina Fey that Obama said he had to call. She was the host one night on SNL, but no longer is on that show. See he dont even know who to call in this instance.

Did you see SNL last night!?They went after Obama BIG TIME!!!!!!:thumbsup2

They ran their version of the 3:00am commercial...with Obama in the WH, and he calls Hillary for help!:lmao: :lmao:

It seems like there's more Obama supporters on this thread than Hillary supporters. Is it just me?
No, it just seems that way since they are the nosiest ones here! They ran out of reasons as to why Obama should be president, in two posts on their thread...so now they come here to knock Hillary!

I am a PA Hillary supporter too!:thumbsup2

Yes, the male/female thing is just one of the challenges I'll face. This is my first time running to be a delegate, so I know my chances are very slim, but I'm excited to be part of the process and I'll continue to support Hillary either way.

I read the NY Times article-very interesting but nothing I didn't know before. That's why I like Hillary. She got to the Senate and started working. He got to the Senate and started campaigning. Thanks for posting the other one. I will check it out.

I visited with prof on the BO thread & I am 100% convinced that he posted a sentence that could be read two different ways & he meant it one way & I (& others) read it a different way.

I retract my comment above & believe he (or she) was posting in a non-confrontational (but debating) manner.

I hope to engage in spirited / clean discussion with prof again if he's inclined.

Thanks for posting this. I read it the other way too and I'm happy and relieved that I was wrong. Now we can move on and hopefully enjoy healthy debate. :thumbsup2

How does the process work? I think this sounds very exciting!

DISCLAMIMER: THIS IS NOT THE USER ID OF WHO IS POSTING THIS. My id is jme829,,this is my dds' id so if you want to pm me or put me on ignore (I could care less about either) or give me points (mods) please don't do it to vballqt07 ...My computer is messed up and freezes up when I try to do certain things (like change user ids..) BLAST AWAY at JME829 but please leave volleyballqt out of it. The sins of the mother and all that..LOL

DISCLAIMER 2: I am really trying not to stir the pot but I tend to ramble and just say what I am thinking. I really am not a troll. I also do not care about points or censure from the mods, I tend to lurk mostly and getting a time out from people I dont' know on an anyonomous message board doesn't even cause a blip on my radar. And for GOTDISNEY, I do have the right to post what I want where I want, so you'll have to deal with that! Sorry if that is rude but all this crap about "you can't post on my thread" is pretty immature. As is half the crap spewed in said threads (all threads not just this one)

Anyways on to my post:

Hillary has missed almost 30 %. :confused3 so whats her excuse? ..number wise there is only a difference in about 50 votes. McCain has missed almost 57% of the votes ...Who cares about the votes??/ You or I have NO IDEA why any of them missed the votes, it could be campaiging, illness, vacations, whatever. That is really a non-issue to me.

I would personally like to HONESTLY and without spin please hear what is Hillarys "experience" over Obama, other than being her years of being in the White House as the first lady with no security clearance. And why in 2004 did Bill Clinton give a SPEECH against fearmongering and FOR HOPE AND CHANGE... I am really bad at posting links, but he basically said that if you have a candidate playing on your fears (think 3 a.m. commercial) and one who is offering hope and making you think, you had BETTER go with the candidate offering hope (hmmmm Obama anyone???)

To be perfectly honest, I am an Obama supporter. As of a few weeks ago, I would have supported HIllary if she happens to pull out the nomination. Now I'm on the fence if I will even vote in the GE if she gets the nod. It would mean either 4 more years of GWB, or 4 more years of Reps trying to bring the Clintons down (whitewater, Monica, all the other scandals they were/are involved in and BTW, Rezcko donated to Hillary and McCain too so they both have some of his "tainted" money...Obama donated his, not sure what others did) and either way it will not be good for our country. If you think for one minute that the Reps will not start tearing her down the minute she takes office, whether justified or not, then I think you are naive. WE CANNOT AFFORD EITHER ECONOMICALLY OR MENTALLY for the next POTUS to be engaged in the games the reps will play with her. She needs to be 100% focused on the important issues we face as a country, not distracted by defending her character. I can see (hopefully wrong) now that her only two "issues" as CIC will be pushing MANDATORY healthcare down our throats (about the only "policy I disagree with) and fighting off the right. Neither leaves me with a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Another rambling thought, why do only Hillarys wins count? According to some here, Obama's don't count at all because they were unimportant states.. So why even bother voting in those states. As of the now Hillary is 3 for 13 in the last month of primaries/caucuses. He has also won more overall states. Thats an impressive record she has...NOT. A record like that normally won't get you to the championship! But I guess we will have to see how the "refs" will decide the game.

AND FOR THE RECORD, I DO NOT NOW, NEVER HAVE AND NEVER WILL DRINK , DO DRUGS OR SMOKE ANYTHING AND TO EVEN SUGGEST IT ABOUT ANYBODY BY THE STUPID KOOLAID COMMENTS TOWARD ANYONE WHO DISAGREES WITH YOU REGARDING THEIR CHOICE (and reasons for that choice) FOR A CANDIDATE IS IMMATURE. AND THAT GOES FOR BOTH SIDES, ALL CAMPS..

I don't support McCain, but I respect those who do, because that is their decision based on their feeling.. NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE "ON" SOMETHING. I don't fully support CLinton because of MY feelings regarding her character NOT BECAUSE I AM ON SOMETHING. I DO support OBAMA, because of his message (policy isn't a big deal to ME because he and Clinton are pretty much the same as most Dems, which I obviously support)..... NOT BECAUSE I AM ON SOMETHING.

My feeling is that we need someone to fire up the crowd and hope for change, because honestly, I don't feel we have much else left.

Have a wonderful day.

I guess we're even now. I posted over there and the previous poster posted here. I like my post better. ;)

Anyway, back to running for delegate. Does anyone know how that works exactly? I'm really curious.

I understand your feelings, but he dont fire me up at all. I find myself doing this :rolleyes1 more & more when he talks. I say Hillary votes count more since she wins mostly when its a closed Primary. Obama wins when there are unfair caucuses and when Republicans are allowed to vote for the Democratic nominee.

Obama missed 40.6% of his votes during his current (and First term) as a US Senator. He hasnt even tried to show that he is on the ball as the newbie.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/o000167/

Clinton missed 29.2% of the votes.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/c001041/

McCain missed 56.9% of the votes.

http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/members/m000303/

I care about votes, since it is a record of showing who is actually working!

Why should a employee with less experience and much more missed time at work get a promotion over someone with more experience and actually shows up to work?:confused3

This does make a difference to me, since it proves WHO does HER job, and who dont!
Congress all gets vacation at the same time, so vacation cannot be used as a "not voting' excuse.

As far as Hillary's experience over Obamas, where have you been for the past 16 years? We ALL KNOW Hillary's experience, Its Obamas experience that remains in question? For the millionth time on the Dis Boards I ask...What has Obama done???? And for the millionth time...I doubt that I will get a answer.
