Highway in the Sky Dine Around...questions?

Ok all, need a little help...we (2 Dis. Adults no kids) have been to Disney several times and usually do dinners at special restaurants. Highway seemed interesting and fun, but after reading some reviews about the cost and what you receive we are now on the fence...
Is it worth it? or
Should we just Bar and Restaurant crawl on our own?
We are not super interested in the "special" fireworks seating.

We enjoyed it but it was once and done. The first stop was a small waiting area with a drink and tiny cup of soup. The second stop had some items from Kona and was a bit better. The Citricos stop was good and the meal was larger and tasty. The dessert stop had limited dessert choices but coffee with Kahlua made it a good stop. The viewing for fireworks was good too. The price was a little high for us to return trip.

In our personal experience we found the social atmosphere of Highway to be a big plus. Yes , you can probably do the circuit by yourself and customize it for less than the cost of HITS, but we really enjoyed spending the evening with other Disney adults. The food was more than enough and there was definitely enough alcohol for me. If you are looking for a romantic date night then maybe not the event for you, but if you want a lively social evening I would highly recommend it!

Have you done other "experiential" dinners? My favorites are Wayama Safari at AKL and Morimoto's Omakase. Similar pricing to Highway in the Sky. The "makeshift" setups of Highway (an obscure lounge area at CR...really?) and lack of choices are disappointing. I am glad I skipped it last week. I was very close to booking it. Another favorite was the chef's counter wine dinner at Flying Fish, but I don't think it is currently being offered.
