Hi all
Just back from a quick trip to DLP and Paris itself - think I may try to do a "proper" trip report but for now, here are our highs and lows:
Highs:
We only had 2 days in the parks (19/20th) plus a meal at Inventions on 17th, but managed to get photos/autographs with 13 characters (only 1 scrum, for Clarice!), do 24 rides, watch Disney Magic on Parade and Dreams, as well as having 4 (yes 4!) "sit-down" meals each day and 2 stops for ice-cream.
Despite other reviews we saw no break-downs of rides, much of the park had clearly been repainted and all of the toilets we went in were clean and tidy.
Hotel Elysee - stayed here 17/18th so we could go to Paris on 18th - far exceeded our expectations, would recommend for an off-site hotel, and less than 10 minutes drive for our meal at Inventions and when we moved hotels.
First aid centre - I walked into a freestanding display wearing open-toed sandals in World of Disney, split 2 toenails and was dripping blood - the nurse I saw was great, quick and efficient and it all seems very well organised.
Castle Club - just wow! - I have always wanted to do this and as we only had 1 night to stay we decided to splurge it. CMs went out of their way to be of help, afternoon tea in the lounge was fantastic, our room had a view of Fantasia Gardens which was stunning, the "magic" lift, it was all fantastic.
Dreams - amazing show, shame about the people (see below!)
Lows:
Kyriad - we stayed here our last night before travelling home - I guess the drop from the Castle Club was a stretch too far! We stayed here at Xmas 2010 and had positive memories, not sure if it has gone downhill since then or if the fact that it took us all day to drive through the blizzards to get there and we were glad just to be alive meant that our view was skewed somewhat! Serious damp on the ceiling of our first room, which they changed, but generally dark, grubby, in real need of some tlc.
Lack of manners of guests during Dreams - we waited 2 hours to watch the show, my 7 year old was so tired he was crying, not sure whether to go back to the hotel or stay and watch. We had a space by the railings with a flower bed in front of us so I thought we would have a good view, but with 30 mins or so to go people started piling into the grassy area (at which point I got my kids onto the grass as well), but people were trampling the flowers, even setting up tripods in the flower beds. It was a nightmare. I ended up climbing over the railing too (not on the flowers) - the kids did get a good view and mine wasn't bad (although I had to hold on to a lamppost as it was on a slope!), DH held his camera above his head and mostly watch on the screen, but I found it a stressful experience as it is so dark and I could barely make out where my kids were - I didn't like going on the grass but if we had stayed where we had waited for 2 hours we would have seen none of the projections on the castle.
Restaurant des Stars - we have eaten here on every visit, this time will probably be the last. The food selection was poor and most of it not particularly tasty. We filled up on desserts then ended up having another "main meal" in the evening at the Lucky Nugget (which was great).
That's all for now, we had a wonderful few days and our day in Paris was brilliant, will put more about that if I get round to doing a trippie! Next stop, planning a trip to Disneyland Anaheim next August
