highlights?

Some may already know, but I have really dark hair. Most people think its black, but its a really dark brown. And its kinda boring to me, so I wanted to put some highlights in it. At the beginning of summer i was going to put some weird color like red or purple, but the man at some store that had the coloring said i would have to bleach my hair first, and theres no way im doing my hair blonde. So i decided I wanted to try blondish highlights , whats a good brand that, would work with my dark hair and not look trashy?

I have super dark brown hair. You can put bright colors in. I've colored my hair 3 different times. January I had reddish-brown and blonde; March was purple and a yellower blonde; and in May-Current I have reddish orange and blonde. I don't pick my colors. I let my stylist just do whatever. Mostly because we have the same color of hair and it's cut exactly the same. But if you don't know your stylist well, I would go ahead and pick yours. I've just known Stef for like 5 years. Haa. It sort of sounds like you're going to do it at home, DON'T! My friends and cousins have done theirs at home and they always turn out badly, fade, or doesn't last as long. It doesn't cost much to get it done professionally. I think mine's usually about $50 (depending how many highlights I get and different colors, etc) and it lasts for about two months.

My cousin has dark dark brown hair, and she always colors it at home. First, she bleaches it, then puts the color. It looks really nice the first week, but then fades...

Yeah, you should get it professionally done, because it lasts longer. I have a inky blue streak in my hair, got it professionally bleached & dyed, and it lasted about 4 months. This summer I'm getting neon blue streaks in my hair. [:

i dont think it would look trashy. are u getting like bleached blonde colored highlights? Bc i got mine done, and i have dark brown hair too and i got like light blonde highlights and it looked nice But i wouldn't put too much in bc sometimes the hairdresser could over do the color

oh, i want like dirty blondish highlights. not bleach blonde. i put some in my hair abour 3 summers ago, and it lasted a long time, actually until i got the cut out. but i cant seem to remember what brand it was, i did it at home.

Well if i were u i would get it professionally done bc then u wouldn't perhaps say " Get The Wrong Brand " usually it will last longer. This one girl at my school wanted to put blonde highlights in herself, so she did and it looked liked she died her whole head blonde. so if i were u i would probably have a professional do it for u OP
