<font color=navy>I'm thinking of getting a subscription for my nephews as a Christmas present.

Does anyone know what age group this targets?

I remember my own rascals reading these when they were smaller.

My nephew is 3-1/2. If Highlights is too 'old' for him, does anyone know a magazine/activity book more appropriate for his age?

Highlights might be to old for him. Its usually geared for kindergarteners. Try Nick Jr. if he likes those shows. Sesame st. mag if he likes those. Turtle mag. I'm sure there is more but with whats happened my brain isn't working.

Highlights is appropriate for children 2-12. There are some pages where young ones can search out hidden things while an older child can be reading the same page and learning. There are mazes, word search and pages where children send in their own drawings and ideas.

I was thinking of getting this for my son who will be 4 this month. We already get Your Big Backyard and Nick Jr. which he hardly reads:rolleyes: He does enjoy anything that has the hidden picutres.

Something that we do get that is pretty neat which my son enjoys is a Brighter Vision package. It is a montly package and is age appropriate. Comes with a workbook, stickers, usually 2 craft project and a hardback book and a softcover book. He really looks forward to it. Most of the hardback books have been great and the workbooks really help with writing. Each month has a theme and everything is all tied in. It's about 15.00 a month, which I know is expensive for a Christmas gift, I was just kinda throwing the idea out there for other people who might be looking for something neat for their child. They do have a website if anyone wants to check it out.

Highlights states 2-12 and yes there are a few things for non-readers. My DS wasn't enthused about his Highlights at age
4 but at 6 he really got jazzed about it. Now that he's 8, he
prefers National Geographic Kids, Zookids, Ranger Rick. It also
depends on the child, my DS was frustrated that Highlights didn't
have more he could do alone. I grew up with Highlights, I love it!

I loved Highlights as a kid. It was always at my dentist's office and orthodontist's office, lol.

My dd is almost six and she doesn't like Highlights. She has been getting it as a subscription (gift) for 2 years and she ignores it each month. She does the hidden pics and that's about it!

Obviouisly Highlights, isn thte biggest draw that it used to be.

For non readers it is slightly tricky. I've seen the Sesame Street magazine which looks really cute. Another one is Nick Jr... but it is challenging to figure out what a reader/non reader would like
