DS is a freshman in high school. Next week everyone in foreign language classes has to bring a dish native to a particular country for everyone to sample. It has to be a country that English isn't the primary language. The problem is that it is mid-day and has to be in a throw-away container, so it can't really be a meat dish. We were thinking about a cookie or a salad. Preferably something easy that kids would enjoy. Oh, and chips and dip are out. The teacher said no to that one.

Anyone have a good recipe that might work?

MerryPoppins-

I just had a look at the International Cuisine section of recipegoldmine.com

How about Baklava for Greece?

or Biscotti for Italy?

Good Luck,
Candi

How about brushetta for Italy, or feta cheese, olives and bread for Spain. Salad Nicoise for France (tuna fish, boiled potatoes, green bean, hard boiled eggs with vinagrette) it is yummy! German Potato Salad or Soft Pretzel for Germany. Rice pudding for Norway. Hummus for any middle eastern country or tabboli with pita.

I'm sure people can think of a lot of things, this is kindof fun.

Thanks for all the good ideas. Recipe Goldmine is one of my favorite recipe sites. I'll have to check out the international section.

We need to sit down together and look through some recipes. I have no idea what he'll decide to fix. I think it's a neat idea, too. I'm sure the kids will have a lot of fun sampling all the foods.

Any other ideas?

ooo I thought of one..
Falafels..mmmm.. make small bite size meatball shapes.. yummy!
you can always take yogurt sauce to dip it in too..

They sell a falafel packaged mix that is in the "ethnic foods" section. It is good too! The yogurt sauce is on the side of the package. It is simple.. plain yogurt, dried dill, chopped onion, lemon juice, garlic and chopped cucumber.
