High School Class of 2016/College Class 2020

Sorry for butting in here, since my DDs are in the class of 2018, but jetskigirl, I think it would be completely appropriate and very lovely for you and your DH to buy your DD's corsage. My DD15 went to prom a couple of weekends ago, and there were plenty of single girls and girls in groups, and they all had corsages. I hope she has a lovely time.

Help - I need your opinion :)

So DD decided she is going to the prom with her friends after all. So far it is 3 girls (all going single) and 2 guys (going as a couple). She had a nice long black dress that she was going to wear but my Mom decided she wanted to buy her only granddaughter a prom dress so we picked one out last weekend (thank you Macy's for having a bunch to choose from still). It is a very pretty dark peach color (not sure how to describe it).

So my question - I'm assuming the kids all still wear corsages to Prom, right? If so, do those going single still wear them? I was thinking that DH and I would buy DD's corsage so that she has one.

DD went with a group of about 16 girls and 3 boys, lots of parents bought corsages and I was so sad I did not even think about it! :( I say do it!

So far we have prom down, Senior Awards night done, AP exams done, graduation is in 10 days...this is getting close!!!

I am party planning and preparing for out of town visitors for graduation. I am very excited!

She has orientation to attend in July and will enroll for classes then. We have a move in date and confirmed housing.

How is everyone holding up? I am hanging in there...

They do wear corsages at dd's school. All wrist corsages. The florist should be able to match the color.

Thank you so much. I'm going to order one tomorrow to make sure we have one for her. :)

Thank you. I'm also very glad to hear about others that went in groups. I know she will have her close friends there so she will be fine. I guess the good thing is that she doesn't have to color coordinate with any else, right :rotfl:

We are smack-dab in the middle of "senior season" right now too. Last Sunday was the city's Arts Council awards (DD won first place for Digital Arts - woo hoo). It was so fun to see DD interacting with the kids from the other high schools. She is such an introvert and doesn't make friends quickly but these were all other artists and she just clicked with them right away :goodvibes It was very reassuring for college next year. I am very confident that she made the right decision in going to a Art college (right decision for her personality). Those are her peeps, LOL.

Tonight is Academic Awards and tomorrow night is Ryman Arts graduation. Then June 4th is Prom, followed by Senior Presentations the next week and Finals the week after that. Her last final is on June 15 but then they have tons of Senior activities to keep them busy until graduation on the 22nd. I can't believe this ride is almost over....

My DD went with a group of friends to the prom and I got her a corsage. I will say that most in her group didn't have one. She had a great time and said that it was such much better going with out a date - this was her 3rd Senior Prom since she was asked as an undergraduate.

Proud Mom moment today - we just got the letter from my DD high school that she got a couple local scholarships. Yep, tears have started and graduation isn't until June 16th!

@jetskigrl -My Dd went to prom with a big group of her friends-some had corsages some didn't. Mine didn't want one. I really think she and her friends had more fun than most of the couples going! She has a couple good guy friends that are in relationships and it seems the couples spent most of the night unhappy. They all hung out at friends house after prom (she stayed at the the girls house). Prom was a Friday night. they spent Saturday recovering, then the group went to a movie Saturday, sunday they all came to our house after they went bowling together. Ever see how much 15 teens can eat?? Love her group of friends (most of them have been in Band together for years).

My DD has been out since first weekend of May. Last night was a good bye party for the German Exchange student who was on their lunar Research team. All these goodbyes are starting to wear on her...

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and ordered her one today. At least she will have it for some pictures. I'll tell her that I won't feel bad if she decides not to wear it all evening ;)

If you have followed my posts, you will know that my graduating son has a lot of LDs and Asperger's. He struggled a lot in school, socially and academically, which is why we ended up homeschooling him.

Anyway, this past semester he finished three classes at the local community college. And he got a perfect 4.0 in all 3 classes.

I am stunned, thrilled, and amazed.

He said to me, "Mom, maybe this program is too easy for me."

ME: No, no, no! It means you are good at it and this is the RIGHT program!

(I didn't have the heart to tell him he also just took the 101 versions of everything......it gets harder.)

That's just wonderful! Always nice to hear about kids overcoming challenges.

Mine has her last class next Tuesday and graduation next week. I'm having weird emotional outbursts at the most insignificant things. DD is being very kind to me in my separation anxiety. Lol. My DH, not so much.

Congratulations to your DS!! Sounds like he is off to a great start :)

Well, DD's prom was Saturday and I'm so very happy that she decided to go. She said she had an amazing time (she admitted it will be something that she will look back on and be really glad that she did) :)
It worked out well going with her friends. They all hung out as a group (guys and girls). But later in the evening a guy friend from one of her classes (who was also there with a group of friends) came over and asked her to dance the slow songs so she had the best of both worlds.

So hard to believe that this is her last week of regular classes. She gives her Senior Presentation after school tomorrow. Then next week is finals and the week after that, graduation.

On another positive note, she got a letter from her college encouraging her to apply for the Honors program. She was planning to anyway but needs to write a two-page essay and she is having trouble fitting that in with all her other work right now. So she is keeping super busy right now.

My DS is getting ready for prom right now. We are at the tail end of a fully packed graduation weekend.
Friday night was his baccalaureate mass, Saturday morning graduation then two parties, his first then a friends, then an after party. Sunday was theater awards and now prom. Tomorrow he heads down the shore with his friends, and I head back to work.
It's all over, now it's time to start immersing ourselves in college planning

Whoa, that is for sure a fully packed weekend! Honors convocation and graduation within a few days of each other was enough here. I'm glad we had a breather between prom and this week.

My son's passport FINALLY arrived yesterday!! YAY!!!!!

Short version of the story: He was adopted at age 7 months, the law changed a few months later to make his citizenship automatic. But the FAFSA paperwork on the college end requires that he have either a passport or a Certificate of Citizenship, something we didn't know until April.

I faxed it yesterday, didn't love the quality of the picture, then emailed it to his school. Now they can finally process his documentation and let us know his bottom line.

We are off shortly to drive to the campus for her freshman Orientation (the Honors kids do their orientation early).

Just as an FYI.

Office Max is either going out of business or just closing a LOT of stores.

But I got my son a printer last night for something like 40% off. (He still needs a laptop, but can use his graduation money for it.)

So today is the day - Graduation! I've been in tears most of week and have already cried once this morning! One of my co-workers (who's son is also graduating) said that she wasn't even going to bother putting makeup on today :)

It's been a whirlwind these past 2 weeks with Seniors Honor Awards Night, Senior Breakfasts (each academic club has one for the Seniors so my DD went to 3), and 2 Banquets. My DD didn't have to take any finals so her last day of school was last Friday and here's the day. She has had a sign on her bedroom door that says 6/16/16 and I can't believe it's here. Sorry for going on and on but I'm very emotional. We go for her college orientation in 3 weeks.

Good luck and congratulations Class of 2016!!!!
