High School class of 2011

What about the park? BBQ, volleyball, water ballons? Lots of kids do that here.

Today was the seniors last real day of school. DS is still at school. Even on the last day he won't leave before 10! They are rehearsing for the last concert. At least his finial is not tomorrow. He only has to take one (they are exempt if they have an A) and it is Thursday.

at DS high school, seniors dont take final unless they have a C or below..

So DD got her cap and gown today. It included the cap, the tassel, the gown and a "reversible tab collar".

Somebody please explain the collar! I don't understand what you're supposed to do with it, lol!

Prom on Saturday, Graduation June 3rd....

I have never heard of a collar.. :confused3 beats me.:confused3.maybe some one in her class knows what to do with it..

I remember having a collar when I graduated high school, and my son's school uses them too- only the girls wear them- to designate them as girls I guess :confused3 The tabs go inside, and the collar folds over if I remember correctly.

I can't believe how far we have come. My ds is in his final two weeks of school, and is in the spring musical this weekend and next. His schedule for winding down the year is packed.

Yesterday we booked a luncheon for his graduation celebration- small, just family which is about 35 people :scared1: I'm busy writing out invitations now- or I was until the draw of the DIS proved too strong.

Good luck in the coming weeks all. I'll be stopping in often, as I think I need the support of all of you who are in the same boat as me.

My DD has received 2 scholarships from private sources (not university related) and they both state they are to offset the expense of textbooks and related supplies. Do I need to report these to the Financial Aid office at the university? Will she need to report these as income on her taxes?

Yeah, it says something like that on the back of a little page of stickers?

Sorry, I'm still clueless....I need a visual...help, anybody?

My daughter also got a non university scholarship but they are sending the check right to the university.

I'm not a tax person by any stretch of the imagination but in our paperwork it said that if we did NOT use the scholarship for school related expenses, THEN it would have to be reported as income. But if used as intended you did not have to report it. Don't know if this applies to all scholarships like this or just the one my daughter got.

Thanks cruisnfamily...that is interesting and helpful. She did apply for some others that did mention they would send any award directly to the school.

Yay! Local scholarships are starting to come through! One for $1000 and one for $1200.

Sad night for me tonight. It was the last Ice Cream Concert. They do it on the Seniors last day of finials. The kids serve the tables, sing with a live band and also do show choir pieces. Just a fun night for all the kids but especially showcasing the seniors. DS did great as MC and I could tell got a bit chocked up at the end. They are out now eating and I am home feeling sad that all the kids will be at different places next year. Sad my son will be gone and I will have a 4 hour drive to hear him sing - if he even makes choir! I know you guys understand!

I totally understand! I have cried every time ds has played his trumpet publicly this year. It'd be even worse if he was a singer since I sing and have all my own choir memories. It's hard seeing them with their friends since you know the goodbyes are coming!

Awww.....good luck to you parents.:goodvibes

My youngest is entering HS next yr and I think I will be weepy every yr.

Oh and google graduation collars. Here is one link. It is a girl thing. I know I googled with my oldest dd.;)

Thanks! But unfortunately I"m still :confused3. Apparently I am just clueless! The link says: Place the faux collar atop the neck of the graduation gown, and arrange it the way you would like it to look when it is worn.
Well I have no idea "How I would like it to look when worn":rotfl2: It's just a goofy strap of material and I have absolutely NO IDEA what to do with it. I'm gonna need a visual.

Woo-hoo! Props to DD18. She won a scholarship from her choral dept at school. We don't know the exact award yet, but it's between $250 and $500. Every little bit helps. As she said,"Well, that pays for some of my books." True dat.

I have been on the verge of tears, pretty much everyday since Friday. Friday was DS last baseball game, they got beat in the State Tournament 1 to 0. Sunday was Senior Recognition day at church. Yesterday was DS last day of school. And this Sunday is graduation. This is a hard week. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can. How about everyone else?

Saturday was DD's prom and I tried to say, "Omg this is my Last Prom as a mom" and I started to cry and couldn't get it out....

We had baccalaureate Sunday. If that is any prediction of how graduation is going to go, I better get a bigger box of tissues. i started crying from the minute they walked in until they stood up and walked out. Non-stop cryfest.DD has finals this week. Graduation May 27. College orientation June 4.

Got the graduation party planned, invitations out. And on top of all this, Christian graduates from middle school on Friday. There are two other special needs kids who are going to high school next year, so they're holding a small graduation ceremony for the three of them. I'm making some brownies for them and bringing in pizza for the class, the teachers/paras, and the front office staff. They've all been soooo great with Christian.

All my babies are growing up...:sad1:
