High School class of 2011

Does anyone else have schools that give you no opportunity to decline? My son decided on USC (yea!) and has been trying to decline his other acceptances, but there are several that there appears to be no way to do that. We've looked through all of the paperwork and combed every inch of the websites, but can find only ways to accept. It's very strange.

One of DD's schools was kind of the same, we couldn't find any clear way to decline, so with DD's permission I called admissions and asked them what the procedure was. They said to send an e-mail to DD's assigned admissions counselor.

DD wanted to let the declined schools know of her decision so it would free up possible aid and slots for other students.
agnes!

Ugh! I think I'm going to have to brain DD18. I got a letter Monday from her GC saying that she was in danger of not graduating because she has a 62 in Personal Fitness. I asked DD about it and she assured me that her coach just needs to re-enter some grades. And besides, she just can't stand him because he is lame and weighs over 300-lb. :headache: Nice... I"m going to pretend you didn't just say that.

Well, today the Coach called and left a message on my voice mail! Apparently she has a 62 in personal fitness partly bokecause she hasn't turned in work AND she's not dressing out as often as she should. If you don't dress out it's an automatic 0(F). I am furious! There is no excuse for failing personal fitness, I don't care if the coach weighs 700-lb and is on life support. No excuse. She has 2 Bs, a C and this F five weeks before graduation. I think Miss Its-okay-to-blows-off-personal-fitness is going to be grounded for the foreseeable future.

Ugh. Some days I just don't enjoy being a parent...

Tell her that he college of choice can and will request her final transcript and can and will rescind her acceptance if they don't like what they see. DS18 was sluffing off after he registered for classes and the counselor called him in to let him know this:rolleyes1. He shaped up after that.

I am sorry Minkydog! Will the teacher allow her to turn in the work late? Senior-ites is a difficult disease to deal with. Hang in there! I am sure her teacher doesn't want her to fail either!

The little Easter ad below reminded me about me basket idea for DS. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond and got a bathroom caddie (the kind they use in the dorms to take shampoo etc. down the hall to the bathrooms. I filled it with some candy and some school stuff. A cup with the logo, some wash cloths, stuff I would be buying anyway, then covered it in the regular basket cellophane. It turned out cute.

Oh, I am SO gonna steal this idea. Thanks!

Great idea! I hope you don't mind if I borrow it :)

You are having one heck of a month! I hope your dd can work something out with her coach to get a passing grade in this class. Senioritis is setting in all over the place, I for when will be happy when the diploma is in hand- I'm sure you will too.

what she said....

Hopefully your DD and coach can come to an agreement.. not sure that coach wants to stop her from graduating..

It's official. Paid the large non-refundable deposit on my daughter's first choice school this afternoon. It ends up being more than our state school, but with the great financial aid pkg. they gave her, it is doable. And darn the state school for awarding us grants we weren't expecting---it was hard, for me anyway, although not for her, to turn them down. In my heart, though, I know the school she will be attending is SO MUCH a better choice for her. It feels right, kwim? We visited again last weekend just to be sure. We were eating in the dining hall when the girl's soccer team came in. They pushed several tables together and went to get their food. DD said, "Look, mom. They all left their phones and wallets on the tables." Now, I wouldn't advise doing that, but that's the kind of place it seems to be. Their largest classes run about 40 people versus several hundred for our state U. I'm also just a little sad it's five hours from home versus an hour and a half.

We, too, are also having a hard time figuring out how to notify the last two schools that she is declining. The other ones were easy and we let them know a while ago, but I really feel like it should be easier than it is to notify them. If we can't figure it out I guess I can just email admissions.

Now I guess it is just a matter of waiting for the end of the year. Three of her classes will be cake after the AP tests are done, but she has a long while until she graduautes. Because of all the snow days and a flood day we had, she won't be graduating until June 27th, I think.

Good luck to everyone else with your decisions!

We'll Senior Night for Baseball got rained out until Tuesday. I have been having a hard time this week. I'm crying at the drop of a hat. Is anyone else experiencing this. Graduation is a month from tomorrow and my DS only has 3 weeks of school left. I'm just having a hard time. :sad1:

DD#2 is graduating but not going away to school. She just started a new job she loves and is planning on community college, at least for a year. We have "Project Graduation" for our Seniors, and they take an overnight "Cruise to Nowhere" the night they graduate (I found all this out today). Prom dress is almost paid for. She is also turning 18 in 3 weeks. All this at once for her..she is excited and I am proud of the young lady she has become.

My baby grads in just a few short weeks and will be heading off to college in August...wants to be a youth pastor

Anyone else have a DS/DD going to University of Central Florida in Orlando this fall?. It's about 30min from the front gates of Disney :cool1:

My knothead got an ROTC full ride there to study computer science. It's only about 3hrs from home. Gee just another reason to head to Orlando.

we visited this school.. looked like more of a commuter school to me but also not being a fl resident it was way too expensive for us..

CONGRATS to your child for getting in and the full ride.,

DH and I just followed DS to his date's house for prom pictures. 3 of us, and none of us remembered to take the corsage from the fridge. DH is taking it to them at the restaurant where there group is eating. Hope the rest of the night goes better!

Mine doesn't graduate until the last weekend in June...our school year runs from Labor day until almost the end of June so we are not in the final countdown yet. She just started looking for prom dresses, but right now is focused on classes since all the AP tests start in a few weeks. My hard time will start at prom time in June. This is my last one for highschool, it is making me a bit sad.

DH and I have a week booked at Hilton Head DVC in October. Now I just need to worry about who will watch the cats.

Okay, I'll tell him to do that. There was one school he had almost full tuition and he let that one go as soon as he ruled it out. I hope they were able to award it to someone else.

We're the same here. My son just ordered his tux today, prom isn't until May. It's going to be a very short summer--move in day at USC is 13 August (hoping they will offer early move in to out-of-state again so we can move in the day before).

Well it was my turn to get weepy and have a big lump in my throat..

DS went with his gf to Mens Warehouse to rent the tux for Prom.. they called me to come and see it before he finalized the whole thing.. and to sign the rental contract as DS is not 18 yet..I did get weepy as that weekend is IT>> Prom, party and then graduation..:sad1:
