High pressure sales?

I know everyone says that they loved the DVC presentation because it was so "low" pressure. But I was just wondering if anyone had the experience I did?

We went in May to the WDW DVC location at SSR. My guide sat DFi and i in a room after giving the presentation. Several times we'd call up to his office and tell him we wanted to leave and discuss it at our leisure but we'd call the next day or later that afernoon, he said that this was the only day we could get the incentives AKV $8 off SSR $10 off plus 500 gift card. We just didn't feel comfortable making such a big purchase without taking some time together to talk. Anyways, as I stated on another thread today, I called my dad and he told me about SSR resales price and told me to only buy if I wanted to stay at AKV, otherwise I should just wait for my DVC at the CR.

Did anyone else have an experience like this?

Now that I'm going to buy BLT, I am wondering if I can call and start over. I have a wonderful DVC owner who rented me points in August and answered all of my questions. I'd love to credit her as a referal to my purchase. I really am grateful because the experience with my guide left a rather bad taste in my mouth.

I had heard you have to have the referral in place from the get go, and once you have a guide, you always have that guide, no matter who handles the actual transaction. So, is there anyway we can "start fresh"?

Today is the last day of September and I think the last day of the incentive you were referring to. Perhaps that's why they told you today was the last day for the current incentive?

No I apologize, I should have been more specific. I am referring to SSR and AKV, the $10 and $8 off per point incentives (with SSR $500 gift card towards downpayment).

The guide said that it's a ONE DAY ONLY INCENTIVE for when you go on the tour. That is untrue, it's the current incentive they were running for quite some time.

This was back in May.

Good news: You can (and in my opinion should!) get a new guide. You just have to tell them when you call that you were unhappy with your experience with the guide you had in May and ask for a new one. If I were you I would consider asking for the one your father has, assuming he is happy with him/her. Or you could ask for guide "guidance" on this board ... my vote is for Dave Kreutzer! Been with DVC for over 5 years (maybe more) and very low key, low pressure.

Bad news: Once you make your way to a DVC presentation on your own, all referral bets are off! While I understand that this can be frustrating, I do see DVC's view on this. Yes, someone MAY have helped you learn about and decide that DVC was a good fit for you, but you had already looked into it and taken a guide's time, so why should they just give this person $200-500. Now you MAY be able to get a referral for your father (since he is a long time DVC owner and it would be understandable that you probably learned about DVC from him before ever going to a presentation), but I certaintly would not expect it. And based on the referral policy, I definitely would not expect them to let you give a referral to someone from whom you rented points.

Good luck finding a new and better guide!

I absolutely had a feeling that it was going to be that way. My father sold his OKW in 2001 (after we stopped getting length of stay passes) and managed to MAKE money. Not bad, but I couldn't give him as a referal.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond and i will call about the new guide. I feel bad that I took up someone's time and didn't buy, but we just weren't financially prepared. Had he leveled with us, with us I'd be much quicker to call him about BLT!

It doesn't matter what guide you talked to during your visit...you can still use another guide and use another referral.

I guess there are conflicting views on this. I will have to call my new guide and see on Weds.
