I want to start a site like badshoe.com, but show what people will wear when hiking. We just got back from Yellowstone and the Tetons, and when we went on our 4 mile hike we couldn't believe what we saw people preparing to start the hike were wearing. Flip-flops! Open-toed sandals! Shoes with a slight heel!
This hike has a path to it, but there is a LOT of climbing, many rocks, some scrambling, and tree roots. Some of these people didn't even have any water. One woman was carying her Starbucks latte. I guess 4 miles in the mountains in weather that can turn on you at any moment just isn't wat it used to be!
We did see one guy in flip-flops at the end. He hadn't put on sun block and was as red as a lobster. Blister time. He jumped into the lake nearby to cool off, the GLACIER fed lake, and screamed. We just laughed. They guy next to me said "notice there are no beaches around here? There is a REASON"
Let me see if I can post a picture:
