High cost of car rental!!

Since Alamo merged with National and moved into the airport, we have not had a problem with them. However, we always skip the line.

Ours are outrageous too! So far the best I've been able to do is $162 (total) for 1/28 - 2/2 in a compact.

I'm hoping I can catch a better deal in the last 2 weeks before we go. Otherwise I may give priceline a go!

I just switched to National with emerald isle membership and 30 off coupon I got the same price as alamo....
179 for a equinox.... Better than standing in line and dealing with the nonsense.
Thanks for all your info on alamo.

I always use Dollar at the Orlando airport and with the code I got at Mousesavers, OCVB, I just got a car for 4/21-26 for $152.70 (the weekly rate) with taxes. That's a great rate for a full size- Dodge Charger! I also booked our December trip which is 12/1 to 12/11 for a Pacifica (premium car) for $280.

What I do when I rent a car is this. I go to one of the main sites (i.e. travelocity, orbitz) and pull up the rates. Then I take the lowest 3 costs based on the size car I want and then I call them directly and ask for the best rate including discounts (i.e. AAA, priceclub (BJs, Costco, Sam's Club)). Depending on where you work (if it's a large corporation), there may be a discount there too. Then I book whatever is the least expensive. If you end up booking more than one, you can go to the website easily enough to cancel it. Then (and here's where the money saving can come into play), I check (probably monthly) at the rates to see if they have gone down. The last trip I took, I ended up saving a couple hundred dollars by doing this (on a mini-van). I'd also book as early as possible too so that you get the best benefit from this. We're going to Orlando in April and I booked the car like 9 months ago...I got a ridiculously cheap rate for the week. Now it's over $350--So, it works both ways. Takes a little effort, but in terms of saving some money, I think it's worth it! GOOD LUCK!

Getting to the Hertz lot is very easy. The bus is always waiting and I am driving away from the lot in less than 10 mins. When I go to leave I do curbside checkin and then return the car. We found Hertz quicker and easier than using onsite National and their cars were in better shape.

I was able to book Dollar, full size (Charger or similar), with Kiss2 code from Mousesavers and got it for 6 days in December for $152. Trick was leaving the corp id blank and ONLY entering that kiss code. When I tried the ID on mousesavers AND the kiss code, the price jumped up by about $25.

Yep, I cant tell you how many thousands of dollars ive saved over a few years by doing this. One instance comes to mind on a trip out to San Francisco. I first booked an Intermediate with National at $405 w/taxes for 1 week. After checking monthly, i ended up with a Full Size SUV with National at $188 w/taxes for the same week!
