I was wondering what are some of your favorite Hidden little things to do inside the parks. For example in MK there is a dresser drawer you can look into and see Tinkerbell in one of the shops. Does DL or DCA have any little things that I can point out to my family to increase the magic?

Thanks

At California Adventure there is a shop called Off the Page. If you look up at the ceiling there are drawings of Disney characters, and some of them are coming out of the pages, and some have escaped. My dd & I spent about 20 minutes one day trying to locate them all. That was fun for us.

The Columbia Ship has a "museum" of sorts below deck where you can see how crew members used to live out on the sea.

There is a villain shop in New Orleans Square that has a witch in a cage -- turn the key to the cage.

In Fantasyland on the Snow White attraction there is a brass apple -- touch it.

In the queue for Indiana Jones there are some interactive spots, plus there are letters on the wall in Mara font (look up Mara font on the web) that you can decipher. There is a pole that will cause a crashing sound when you move it, and there is a rope that if you pull it a guy down below will shout out. Oh - and whatever you do -- don't step on the blocks with diamonds. :scared1:

By the castle there is Snow White's Grotto -- go stand for awhile by the wishing well for a special treat.

Here's a couple more:

Above the Snow White ride every couple of minutes the Evil Queen pulls the blinds aside and peers out.

When you ride Thunder Mountain take note of the buildings as they were the once town featured in the original Mule Train ride.

Swinging the ropes in the Tarzan area, generates a couple of roars.

If you're lucky you can ride in the pilot house of the Mark Twain, just tap lightly on the door and ask politely.

While waiting for the train in NOS, listen to the teletype across the tracks coming from the building. It is actually "clicking" the opening day speech made by Walt himself!

Listen to the windows on the side street that leads to the lockers off Main Street....the piano lessons and dentist office are very funny!

The windows on Main Street offer glimpses of important people that made DL possible.

Have your picture taken at the original center of DL, the gold spike on the ground just as you pass through the castle opening. (Well at least my feet have been in the picture! lol)
ToonTown, be sure and pull on all the doorknobs and mailboxes for some fun! And this is a great area for wonderful pics.

My DD actually received a certificate for helping pilto the Mark Twain one visit...that was very exciting!

Also, the Tarzan Treehouse give you quite a surprise when you get a little close to the leopard!!

Here's a few more...on the Pooh Ride in DL, look up as you leave the Heffalump room to see characters left from Country Bear Jamboree. In DCA, Hollywood Pictures Backlot, inside the Animation building there is an interactive area where you can find out which character you're most like and record a scene from a Disney movie.

In the country store on the east side of main street you can listen in on an OOOLD fashion party line . :cool1:

Keep an eye out for the fifty 50th Anniversary logos scattered around the park. Some are easy to spot, some are subtly "hidden in plain sight". Check with City Hall if you give up.

In Toontown there is a dynamite thing close to the Roger Rabbit ride that kids can push up and down on. Occasionally it will set off explosive sounds. My son set it off. He didn't know about ti before hand, so it was a fun surprise.

That reminds me ... in Toontown there's also a talking manhole cover near the Gag Factory. Stand on it and you will hear a random comment. Nearby there are talking prop boxes - lift the lid and you'll hear various sound effects.

Usually on most days the princesses come out to meet the kids and provide photo ops to the right and left of the castle. Well - on some of the slower days we've noted that at the end of their afternoon around 4:30-5:30 sometimes all the princesses (and sometimes villans who were out) will gather off to the LEFT of the castle (towards frointier land) to meet as a group witj kids. On several occasions they played games with an intimate gathering of 2 dozen kids. When you're fortunate enough to catch one of these impromptu gatherings they seem to last about 20-45 minutes. They have been very unusual and I regard them as very intimate experiences for our daughters!

Sometimes if you ask a CM escort (quietly) whether the prnjcesses will gather off to the side (or the character themselves) they will confirm they can or will be doing it. the last few times I asked they said it would not be done that day though. Of course, it's been pretty busy at the parks and this thing went on when it was decidely quiet by comparison.

I offer my gentle thanks with High praise to the cast members who make this event possible! :wizard:

Another thing that isn't really announced & I think they do this just on the weekends is that one of the princesses will tell a story in the Toy Shop in Fantasyland with the little ones gathered at their feet. I saw Snow White telling her story & it was really sweet.

In Toontown the mailboxes in the post office offer funny comments - I think you have to pull a handle on the individual mailboxes. Also, there is a telephone where you can listen in on an amusing conversation - I think it is near the plunger that blows up the toy factory. We've not been to DL in a while so my memory is fuzzy.

Don't forget about "Push", the talking trash can in TomorrowLand!

For the 50th celebration there are "golden vehicles" on rides. For example, on Dumbo one golden Dumbo. At Autopia, one golden car.

We had a good time looking for all of the 50th "Hidden" Mickeys - supposedly there are 50 of them and they have a 50 on them. About half of the 50 are on Main Street in plain sight (not giving too much away here) but others are very subtle.

Just to add a few notes to the above. I think the clicking is Morse code and was created by Walt's wife, Lillian, as she use to work in a telegraph office, I think.

Last summer we took the Walk in Walt's footsteps tour. We were at the back castle entrace. I asked where the golden spike was that marked the center of Disneyland. He showed all of us but said that is wasn't the center of Disneyland but more of a survey marker that marked the centerline of Disneyland that helped mark the center of the road of Main Street to the Train Station from the castle entrance.

He dispelled a couple of other myths that I knew to be true too before I took the tour, but I can't remember the others.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I know some of these have been on past threads, but it is great to see the thread and be reminded for us DL newbies! I will have to make sure I take notes so I don't forget...DH will be thrilled when I tell him there is a Villians shop! He's a college math instructor and loves to wear his villians shirts on test days....lol

Thanks again!

Its not something you can do but above the fire department to the left as you enter is a lamp burning in the window. That is the apartment where Walt stayed when he was in the park and he'd turn on the lamp so everyone knew he was there. The lamp is left burning all the time now in his honor.
