Hicks on Holiday 2 - Done Brung the Kin Folk-Sept. 07 w/pics UPDATE 12/10/08 pg 41

I check in with your trip report and find 2 fantastic updates!!!

I took notes, so here yah go:

Good call avoiding the parade!
It was one of the poorest excuses for a "parade" that I'd ever seen!

Actually, it was still the Cars and Stars parade, and we saw that in 2004, so no need for a repeat. :rotfl2:

I didn't know Mary Poppins was ever at MGM!
I was laughed at by a CM when I asked if she was ever there!

And ya didn't know there was a boat at Wilderness Lodge either.
When will you learn to run your travel plans past ME first? :confused3
:lmao:
Actually, I didn't know she was at MGM either,
but it seemed logical, as she is a classic movie icon.

Don't you know that even if you don't remember what happened on your trip,
you have to state it as fact!?
I have learned to do this on my non- note taking days!
I also base my facts on pictures!

Yeah, if I always admitted my memory lapse,
the entire trip report would be considered a work of fiction. :rotfl:
Notes? Not so much.
I go by the pictures too.

How come the smokers always get the nice, shady spots?
:confused3

TATER-TOT!! :rotfl: :lmao:

It's even funnier when you know The Chef personally, isn't it? :thumbsup2

Oh, I love your condensed version of why you married John!!!

Well...that's NOT the only reason.
I have to say the kiss that came after that comment probably sealed the deal.

[If the kids read that they'll say
"Hey now, that's enough mushy stuff from you old people. Blech."]

I can't believe how inconsiderate you were,
making noise during labor!

Yeah, make me feel better,
and tell me I'm not the only one that really gets angry about the pain. LOL

"This goes down, doesn't it?" :rotfl: The poor girl!

Also soooooo much funnier when you know her in person, no?

I love the Beauty and the Beast show, too!

I KNEW you did! See why we need to go to WDW together?
The boys can watch things blow up and we can do girly stuff. LOL

Okay, now I know a certain sister with a "best version" trip report
that hasn't heard from you for quite a few installments. :rolleyes1

I thought about that,
because I always think I'll comment after reading both,
but then I end up commenting on T's,
then I think it will look pretentious if I go back
and say the same thing on yours.

Like..."hey, did ya know there's a boat at Wilderness Lodge,
because I KNOW you didn't see my comment on that on Theresa's report."

I'll try to sprinkle some love on the "best" report also.

4.5 and going on TOT
woooooooo what a little dare devil!!!!
I am looking forward to the B&B show too,
another to add to my long list of to do's!
I have a feeling the grandparents we are taking
with us will want to pay cash for treats even though we are on
the Delux Dining Plan...oh well I guess I will let him.
Looking forward to reading more adventures...
:)

Oh, those grandparents!
My mom was a little lost with nothing to treat the kids with.
I tried to tell her that her coming with us was a really big treat in itself.
We wanted treat HER for once!

Thanks for reading!

Hey, your really cranking out the updates now! I think the funniest comment was with some guy sticking his head in while you were in labor! What is wrong with people??? And too funny about your daughter on TOT! :rotfl:

~Beka~

Just discovered your TR after I have been avidly following your dining TR and am so enjoying it. I feel quite ashamed that I have never been brave enough for ToT now I know your 4.5 yo went on it!

Glad you made your way over!

If it makes you feel any better, she says she's not going on that again,
and she's 5 now. LOL

Thanks for reading! :wizard:

Whew! :worship: I just made it through your trip report. I must admit, I did not read all the intermittant posts from other DISer's. Please forgive me. I do most of my DISing at work and I just can't read all of them.

I am enjoying reading your trip report. I must say, I admire you. I do not have any children and I can not imagine taking 7 children to Disney World. I've been on a couple solo trips and I don't even like to think about taking my sister, her husband and her son. :rotfl: Too many people!

Anyway, I'm looking foward to reading the rest of your report. Now, I'm off to read the dining report. Thanks for taking time to post.:woohoo:

Hey, you're not too far from us! We drive right by on our way to WDW. :thumbsup2

Well, we take seven children everywhere,
so it's not that big of a deal to take them to WDW.

Now, if John and I took seven of somebody else's kids....:scared1:

Thanks for reading!

I have been lucky enough to meet this family and while it might be true that those particular kids are special and very well behaved much credit must go to the parents and grandparents who raised them that way. MOM is the one I talked to the most and I was much taken with her personality. Calm, relaxed, loving, in control in a low key way and very special. If only all children were so blessed!:worship:

SG/who would love to be there in Sept 09 to see them again.

You have hit the nail on the head! Sarah has great kids, but I think a lot of that has to do with their great parents! They are both absolutely wonderful! :lovestruc

Now STOP IT you two. You're making me blush.

I like you both too. Giggle. :cloud9:

Roger’s brother and a Shao Lin Stunt Show Encounter...
Park day 3 - MGM/DHS
Sept. 19, 2007

When we last left the Hicks, they had been enjoying the Beauty and the Beast show.
Well at least the female Hicks, plus the Inquisitor were.
The male Hicks, minus the Inquisitor, decided that wasn’t manly enough,
so they decided to catch the next showing of Lights, Motor, Action.

That show did not start until Beauty and the Beast were almost over.
So we knew we had plenty of time before we had to meet the boys.

We had told them to meet us at Indiana Jones for the next show.
We knew it would be tight making it, but we had hope!

We leisurely strolled across the park to the tables by the Backlot Express,
knowing the boys had to come by that way to get to Indy,

and not wanting to spend all our time standing by the show entrance,

and knowing that there was an ice cream stand across the street from the Express.

And a bathroom.

Did I mention that we spent a lot of time in the bathrooms at WDW???

Here are some random park pics DisneyGirl took that afternoon:

IM000931.jpg

IM000930.jpg

While we were sitting at the Express, we made a wee friend:

IM000925.jpg

IM000926.jpg

IM000927.jpg

We suspect he is Roger Rabbit’s brother,
thus explaining why he was hanging out at MGM/DHS,
which everyone knows
is the only place you can find any reference to Roger in WDW.

While we were waiting, we discussed a strange phenomenon
we had experienced that day.

As we had toured the park, we kept seeing a tour group of Buddhist monks.

Who seemed to be foreign, non-English speaking Buddhist monks.

Possibly from Thailand???

Which I think, begs the question:
What are Buddhist monks doing in WDW???

I don't have a pic, as I didn't want to be rude.
But they looked pretty much like this -- only less protest-y:

Buddhist_Monks_Dec4_1_20365_435.jpg

I mean, I know WDW is for everyone,
but if you have taken a vow of simplicity,
which is my limited understanding of the whole Buddhist monk thing,
what would be the allure?

If you were on some sort of Buddhist Monk delegation to the US,
would WDW really be the top of your list?
Perhaps it’s a way to experience American culture,
all in one easy local???

We just thought, of all the unusual people we had seen that day,
and don’t deny there are some unusual ones at WDW,
this was the most perplexing.

But, hey, the more the merrier!
Welcome all Buddhist monks who might be DIS members and reading this!

The boys eventually came scampering along,
with JUST enough time to get to the Indiana Jones Stunt show.

We have found in all of our trips, that even if we cut the time short,
we can always get a seat here.

That probably doesn’t apply to peak season,
but in off season it has been true for us.

The only drawback, is that you miss the volunteer selection process.

But we still got to see the volunteers go through most of their paces.

We were sitting near the back, enjoying the pre-show,
when Bionic SIL elbowed me, and pointed behind us.
There in all of their day-glo orange glory were the monks!

Apparently, they are interested in Indiana Jones also!

They didn’t end up staying for the whole show,
and we wondered if it was because people kept taking pictures of them.

And that was the last we saw of them,
but I heard after I returned that they had been to other parks also.

Still a great mystery to me!

We finished up the show, and slowly made our way to the front.

And that concludes our day at the theme park formerly known as MGM.

And before I go, I must back up a smidge,
and tell you that earlier in the trip,
on our way to the Backlot tour,
we spotted Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable.
We don’t watch this show, but my kids do know who they are.
So we stopped for a pic.
These were the only children who agreed to the pic.

IMG_0303.jpg

[Isn't this version of Kim pretty?]

Apparently, the older kids are to COOL for Kim Possible!
Impossible, you say?
Well, Dangerboy, the Inquisitor, Princess K would have to agree with you!

Next up: We’re Hippy, we’re Dippy, we’re cool in the pool....

Another Hicks update!

MOM, that is one seriously beautiful girl in the picture. The redhead is not too bad either. :)

Maybe they send the monks out into the world to the most crowded and busy places where folks are more likely to have a melt down or two just to make sure that they want to stay behind the walls of the monestary? Just looking at the prices at DW would scare them into wanting to go back.:lmao: Interesting. Now you have given me one more thing to ponder. :upsidedow Just had a thought. Maybe they go to DW before entering the monestary so that they can qualify for the vow of poverty?:lmao:

I enjoy B&B and have a connection as Bradley Pierce who did the voice of "Chip" is a personal friend and almost relative. I have to confess that I enjoy 4 for $1 even more though. Great report.:thumbsup2

Pop Century Resort
Sept. 19, 2008

[I'll update with words later,
as I finally got these pics uploaded for a second time,
after the internet hiccuped and LOST my update!!! :headache:

So watch this space! :thumbsup2 ]

Ok, so I am back!

When we last left the Hicks, the were dragging themselves back to Pop Century,
having spent a very fun, if not a little soggy at first, day at MGM.

The day had actually dried off a bit, so we decided to have dinner at the food court,
and then head out for the pool.

Our last trip we had come back early most nights, so spent a lot of time swimming.
This trip, not so much, as we did more evening activities, and late ADRs.

We decided to schlep all the way over to the Hippy Dippy Pool,
mostly because I wanted to relax,
and for me, relaxing is NOT having the little kids in the big pool.
That, my friends, is what they invented the kiddie pool for.

As I had the camera, and I spent the entire time at the kiddie pool,
these are the only pictures I have of that night.

The Pop Century Kiddie pool is shallow, with several jets that shoot up at intervals.

My kids LOVE this pool.

Assorted Hick Kids, and someone I don't know....

IMG_0338.jpg

The best part, is that even the baby could participate.
We did have to keep an eye on her,
as it was deeper on her than the others,
but she for the most part could walk around in it without trouble.

Babycakes
Looking fine in her, as Princess K used to call it, Bimming Soup.
Much like a teeny weeny Polka dot...well not really a bikini, but teeny none the less.

IMG_0347.jpg

The Inquisitor, trying out the jets. LOL

IMG_0346.jpg

Me getting all artistic with the new camera.

Finally, it was time to head off to bed, 'cause in the morning we were heading
to Aftrica, the far East, and back to the time of the dinosaurs!

Next up: Is It Hot In Here? Animal Kingdom

Hmm...Buddhist Monks at Disney, definitely perplexing. Loved the update though! I always like to see the pics your daughter takes. Sorry to hear that the computer ate your update.

~Beka~

Ok, I fixed that last update. Enjoy!

MOM, that is one seriously beautiful girl in the picture. The redhead is not too bad either. :)

Princess K is definately a looker. And she has the personality to match!
Quite the social butterfly.
[Contrary to those theories about those poor socially deprived
homeschool children.
They need to study K to see how wrong that is. :lmao: ]

My dh resembles that remark. :rotfl:

That's it, I'm sticking with your vow of poverty theory.

B&B will always have a special place in my heart, as back in the day,
they still had animators really working at MGM,
and they had finished B&B while we were on our honeymoon,
so we saw all the behind the scenes stuff while there.

Then we went to see the movie, us and about 100 five year olds. LOL

DisneyGirl and I have been known to break into a B&B sing along
at a moment's notice.

Tell Bradley that his performance has given us many years of enjoyment! :thumbsup2

Thanks!

MOM, if we are ever there again please invite me to just sit and watch your kids in the pool. I love watching people and those are such a delightful bunch of people. I am sorely glad that I am a grandma since I can get away with delighting in watching small children play while many times a man cannot. :sad1:

Bimming suit? Mine would be BRIMMING. I keep thinking I might at least dip my toes in a pool one day but have not, yet.

Bradley was also in Jumungi and a few other movies you might have seen. Touched by an Angel and some TV shows too. He does voice over work now and is trying to get back in front of the camera. He has two children of his own now. Time flies.

Homeschool kids and public school kids are alike, some do well, some do not. It all depends. Mostly on the parents, in either situation. Helps to have kids who listen though.

I will be in charge of the library this year. I have a feeling it might be because there is no funding and they think that I will make sure they have what they need. Reminds me that I have to go through the stacks of books I got over the summer and sort them out. :rotfl: Beanbag chairs for all!!

SG

Yes, I think you did mention that spent lots of time in the bathrooms...;)

That's kind of an ugly rabbit! Yep, he must be related to Roger.

"Only less protest-y" :rotfl: :lmao:

The great mystery of the WDW Buddist monks....:rotfl:

I can't agree with you more on relaxing by the pool. I don't find swimming around after thrashing, splashing children real relaxing! I love the kiddie pool (or as Sohappy's kids refer to it, "the cat pool")!

Anytime you can contain children in a safe environment while you get to sit and rest it is a good thing.:cool1:
