Can anyone confirm whether high speed internet is up and running yet at Port Orleans ?

I'm just subscribing to this thread. DH **has** to have hi-speed internet access at all times. He's an IT mgr at a hospital and is on call 24/7.

I know POR is suppose to get hi-speed this month; but haven't heard from anyone who has used it yet.

Was at POFQ in July, they had the wired hi speed available for $9.95/24 hour period.

How about the POR side of things? We will be staying there in Nov and the thought of having to deal with dial up kills me.

Deb Wills site states that POR was due to get high speed 9/1. Haven't heard yet if it actually happened though.

woohoo! :cheer2: I doubt DH will have to take his laptop along, but just in case this is great to know! one question - he is supposed to put it in the safe when he travels, but from what I've read the room safe is not large enough to do this. how did you secure your computer?

TIA!

When I have traveled for business and for pleasure I have not locked up by laptop. It can usually fit in the wall safe of the room but I have never had an issue.

If you have a rental car you could take it with you, or perhaps check it in at the front desk (and get a receipt, of course!)

Just wanted to say that we were at POFQ at the end of July/beginning of August and our room did NOT have high speed internet of any kind. Had to do the AOL dialup thing. So maybe it depends on what kind of room or building you're in.

We were in a building close to the main building, can't remember which number, just found it, bldg. 3. The safe was hardly big enough for my wallet, much less my laptop.

We were in building 7, there was definitely no highspeed there.

**Bumping** to find out if POR now has high speed internet service?

Anyone know yet.

Boy, for all of us computer addicts, you'd think someone would have stayed at POR with a computer since 9/1 and could tell us!! I'm staying there in January and hoping for high-speed as well.

how did you secure your computer?

Kensington Lock. Virtually every laptop, video projector, and even monitor I know of has a Kensington lock slot. Just find something secure to run the cable around and insert the lock into the laptop. If your husband is an IT guy, he'll know what one is without a doubt. Obviously, I'd hope he password protects everything, or requires a USB key for access!

I agree about the Kensington lock. If you are using a business computer could you really afford to lose all the information on the laptop.

Spending $20-30 is cheap to secure your laptop.

People do get their laptops stolen.

We just returned last night from POR. Here's the story. Yes, they do have high speed connections in the rooms. HOWEVER, the charge to use it is $9.95 per continuous 24 hour periods. If you log off during that time, you have to pay an additional .75 to re-log on. REDICULOUS!

Now, if you're thinking that you can just do a quick e-mail check at Innoventions, or somewhere else on property, we were told that no, there is no internet access for guests on property, except what the hotels offer.

Hope this helps!

What part do you find strange? I never heard about 75 cent reconnect fee but the 9.95 fee is pretty much what hotels charge.

I've never heard of a 75 cent reconnect. We were at POFQ and BCV all last week and every single day DH took the $9.95 24hr access. We could log off and on as much as we pleased - there was never any reconnection fee.

There is a fee of 75cents if you make local calls to connect to your DIAL UP, but not on the broadband. It's $9.95 straight up, billed to your room.
