Hi some advice....

Alot has happened to me within the past few months. Breakdown of a relationship, loss of job etc last year.

Now i am a single parent (male) looking after my seven year old son. We had been to disney a few times as a family when his mum was around but now she's not we will be on our own. I am currently on benefits and am basically looking to go at the cheapest time of year. If it's pourning down or 10ft of snow that wouldn't bother us.

So guys when is the cheapest time of year to go?. Would be looking to stay at Sequoia or Cheyenne, maybe drive if that is the cheapest option too.

January or February (but not school holiday time) appears to be the cheapest time of the year to visit DLP - I hope you find something in your price range .

Hi, DD and I are booked to go in Jan '11. We got the 30% off and child stay free, we are staying in the Santa Fe and it is costing me about £280 for 4 nights 5 days inc eurostar!
I'm also budgeting about £50 per day for lunch, dinner and souvenirs, so all up it's going to cost me just over £500 which I think is pretty good as I am on a very low wage myself.

Definitely January - I just checked on the Disney website and 3 days midweek at the Cheyenne in January comes in at £209. This is with 40% off and kids under 12 free.
I suppose the travel costs would depend whereabouts you stay, what the flights are like etc.
Hope you get something booked in your price range and can have a magical trip with your son

Hi yes i was just looking at that myself My birthday is actually on the 20th so i might factor may stay over that date. .

I think i might drive as i recently drove in Spain while on holiday there earlier this year and it wasn't as bad as i thought it might be. (Only one near miss)...lol.

Does anybody know if the journey down by car is straightforward and which would be the best way over, by ferry or eurotunnel.

Driving is really easy - we use the tunnel as dh doesnt like boats, and we can pay for it using Tesco vouchers. If you're going in January when it might be a bit choppy I think tunnel might be better (as well as quicker and flexible)

That is a very good thought sarah. I currently live on the Isle of Wight and i get a bit nervous going on the ferry sometimes when it's a bit choppy, even though it's a 40 minute trip, so a few hours would be torture..lol.

The drive from the tunnel to DLRP is very easy, it is motorways all the way and the directions are very easy to follow (we always drive when we go.) From the tunnel to DLRP it is about a 3 hour drive.

we found march quite cheap - off again next year. ryanair had quite cheap flights to beauvais which is about 1 and a half hours from the park. the vea now does coachs to the park, we got a shared shuttle with rs transport which was 50 euro each return. vea have prices on their website - link in the useful info section

You don't mention staying at the Santa Fe. I don't know if you realise this but the Santa Fe has now had a Cars makeover ~ maybe this would appeal to your son?

I'd definately do the tunnel. We also use tesco points which are good value (even with the changes).

If you take the car you can take lots of stuff with you which can help save money while you are there, as food is expensive. We always take our own kettle and then some snack pot/ pot noodle things , crackers, crisps etc for a light snack in the evening when we get back to the room in the evening. Take plenty of things to drink, and fruit (very hard to find over there!). You can take food and drink into the parks - it officially says no, but they don't challenge it).

If you need milk or anything there is an Esso garage outside the Santa Fe which is much more reasonable than in the park.

How do you use these tesco points then..? I have to be honest my ex had all those, she just gave me a key thob swipe card thing to use when i went shopping. I think i will now have to apply for my own.

I love the Santa Fe - and I've just come back from it, where the Cars theme is very much in evidence in the main reception areas, and there are Cars bedspreads on all the beds now .

Have any of you done the Dover to dunkirk (france) ferry trip through norfolk line..? looking at the prices you can get there and back for as little as £38, ok the times are a bit awkard but the saving is pretty good
