Hi everyone! I am new here, I just finished my first 1/2 marathon (the Disney Princess of course!) and was looking around for a new challenge when I decided what better a challenge than Disney full maraton 2010? A little bit of googling later and I discovered this WISH page! I have always seen your shirts at every event I compete at but had no idea you were all right under my nose on the DIS boards! Anyway I just wanted to introduce myself and ask if any of you get together for training etc. I am fairly new to the area and don't have any running buddies yet :( which makes training quite a bore sometimes. Anyway I hope to speak to some of you soon and good luck with whatever your next challenge might be :)

Welcom Kirsty! I am so glad you've found us.

I'm going to transfer this to the events/competition pages of WISH so you can join in training for the event with everyone. There is a "sticky" at the top of the Events page with some info for you.

We have a weekly walker/runner thread where we share info, training and all such. You will also find smaller groups formed. Please don't be intimidated by all that. We've formed small teams to help us get to know each other a bit better since we've grown in size. Feel free to stop in anywhere either on the main WISH page or on the WISH Events/Competition page.

I look forward to getting to know you and seeing you at the marathon in January.

Hi, Kirsty (which rhymes with thirsty, as Aloha Jeff would say).

I don't know how close St Pete is to the Space Coast marathon, but several WISHers are planning on that one. The absolute coolest thing about the WISH boards (and my other online friends) is that we train virtually together. There are no running groups in the rural area I call home, but I can always log in here, let the world know what I'm planning (my next race, my next long walk [because I'm really a walker rather than a runner], or my schedule for the week) and I have a group of folks ready to encourage and inspire me. Then when I get to Disney, I have a huge group of training partners that I can meet "in real life" -- I've made some dear friends and learned a lot about good books on running, ways to treat my injuries, very tempting races and medals (from folks who have actually done them). I'm glad you googled and found your way to these Disney training websites. I know you'll meet many wonderful and knowageable people -- and you may get lucky and find that there are some local WISHers -- turns out I have a couple of very nice ones only an hour's drive from me!

Well, hey there, neighbor! Congrats on finishing the Princess...that was a good race. We'll look forward to getting to know you better as you train for the full. I had loosely planned to drive up to Clearwater for the irongirl.com 5K next weekend, but there's a local race on Siesta Key I may do instead.

Space Coast is on the other side of the state, but I'm working on doing that one with the WISH group. It's Thanksgiving weekend so we have to workout those plans too.

Come join us on the weekly training thread!

Wk of March 22nd - WISH Team Walkers and Runners

Welcome Kirsty - yeah another Florida WISHer. LOL I am in south east Florida. Right now I am planning on doing the Space Coast marathon - not sure yet if I will do the full or half. There is a thread on here for those that are interested in that race in November. The great thing about the WISH team is that everyone here is supportive of each other. Good luck on the 2010 full marathon - I may be there myself I haven't decided yet or not.

Welcome, Kirsty-Leigh! :welcome:

We're glad you found us and look forward to hearing from and about you on the weekly thread! Congratulations on finishing the Princess--it sounds like it was a great time. I, too, train solo and am always looking for suggestions. Training solo is also one of the reasons I love my WISHmates so much. I'm sure you'll love it here, too.

A big WELCOME from NC! Where I live.
I mostly train alone, but alway think about the exciting things I will post for all my WISH buddies to read. This helps me get through the hard times.....and sometimes in running 20+ miles, there are hard times.

I love this group and encourage you to post as often as you can. You will have lots of training tips from people who have done it b/4 and lots of support from those who are doing it now.

I am also going to try to do the SpaceCoast Mary. It all depends on if we decide to do WDW this year. My marathon schedule is up in the air right now....that is funny, I don't care who said it....talking about the Space Coast Mary and up in the air....HeHe!

hey everyone thanks for all you lovely welcome, I will head on over to the events board for the weekly training and see if I can figure it all out! see you all in Jan (and probably in the winter for all the other fun disney races :) )
