I'm Susan, my screen name is in reference to Jayne Mansfield the 50's bombshell, one of my favorites. I'm 175 pounds right now, 5"2 healthy and in shape but with major back issues and I'm going to Disneyland in March and I don't want to be afraid of the camera or hurt too bad to enjoy the trip. I will tell you right now I have little hope, but I will give it my best effort. I have a job where my schedule is just all zoingy and different every week, I work nights and days so something like weight watchers is out. Heres my base plan-- I will limit computer to 2 hours a day. Believe me, that will be extremely difficult for me, I know it sounds like a lot, but I'm getting to be a big addict. I plan to spend at least 2 hours a day 3 times a week organizing different areas of the house. I plan to walk with my son 4 times a week at least, even if it's just 15 minutes. My goal is 160- I haven't seen that in years, but I think it's reasonable. I also plan to track what I eat every day and limit my eating after 7pm to a glass of wine. I hate the thought of doing this-- I like food and hate hate hate being hungry. I also am hugely against wasting food. I work in a meat dept at a grocery so I eat too much meat, but I am going to try to eat more fish, which we also sell a lot of. Well I'm going for now because I need to spend some time on my daughters old bedroom, thanks for being here-- this looks like a great and very active message board :) I post regularly on the disneyland trip planning board here :goodvibes

Hi Susan,

Good to meet you. You're very smart to look at lifestyle changes. I'm nearing the end of my weight loss. It's taken me years because I refused to change one thing that I couldn't keep up for life. So it's been a slow but pretty well constant loss for me. I've also found that maintaining each loss for a short time - get off the focus and maintain and then jump back in - and then concentrate on it again has worked for me. As have being kind to myself. I used to be so incredibly all or nothing. Success is difficult when you think that way. So obviously I smiled broadly with the wine. Good for you. If you're doing it ten years from now do it while you're losing.

All the best to you. It's great here,

Lisa

Susan, Welcome to WISH!

I know you can do this. Your plan is good as I can see. Your goal is something you definitely CAN achieve. That is key to your success. Pick goals that will be something you can reach and keep making more goals once you've made it.

I will say I am sad to read that you are already defeating yourself. This may sound mean, but you will not stand a chance if you cannot find a way to get on board with yourself. Do this for you, for your dear children, for you, for your family, for you...!

I would also suggest to not think in the negative. Don't use the "D" word when going through your days. Think of this as healthy lifestyle choices. You Want to do this. You can, yes, you can!

:cheer2: :cheer2:

Hi Susan, your story is similar to mine. I'm 5'3 and was 199 last January. I got down to 175 and stayed there most of the summer, even though I worked out at the gym A LOT!! It was frustrating but I stayed with it. What helped me the most was starting the zone diet in October. It really is a lifestyle change, not a 'diet'. Thanksgiving morning I weighed 160, what I weighed when I got married 11 yrs ago. I was very excited!!!

I get to the gym at 5 or 5:30 most mornings and I'm home to get my son and husband going at 6:30. Trust me, I NEVER thought I could do that. It was NOT going to happen. Then one day I just decided to try to get to the spinning class at 5:15 am. I got my butt down there only to find out it was an every other week class and nobody was in the spin room!! :rotfl2:

BUT, I found out I could do it if I wanted to! I also like to drink wine but do so sparingly since it doesn't taste as good as losing weight feels... I'm truely amazed how long a bottle of wine can last now ;)

BTW, my husband is handicapped and my younger son has Aspergers. And I have a busy massage practice. I just finally decided to put me first and it has worked out great!!!

I know if I can do it, anybody can!!! One other thing, this journey I have been on began as a determination to lose weight, but has turned into me learning more about myself. I challenge myself at the gym and I can do things I never thought I EVER could. There was a time when I couldn't do a single 'knee up' on the Roman chair at the gym. This morning I did 20 'pike' positions on that darn thing and I was proud of it!!! You may not know what I'm talking about (I wouldn't have known 6 months ago when I first tried it) but it is hard!

Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to share my story and encourage you in your 'journey'. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Welcome Susan and good luck. I think you will find that if you set reasonable but challenging goals you can reach them. Having a plan is the first step and it sounds like you are on your way. Sometimes the path you plot towards your goals is what determines you success, and I wish you just that.

Thanks for the replies :goodvibes I forget what having support like this is all about--it makes you want to not do it just for you, but for everyone else too...I know I sounded negative--it's really weird for me actually. I know I will lose some weight just dubious about the 160 thing, but the thing is-I got these winnie the pooh embroidered overalls at the Salvation Army the other day, they were lg--xlg is my size in overalls, and boy are these so not doable at the moment but I really want to get in them...I also know I will gian weight back after the initial losing but the trip will be so much more fun without that extra on me. I lost about 10 pounds after reading Morgan Spurlocks Don't eat this book and eliminated high fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated fats from my diet, but I am letting go of veggies and fruits more and more and have gained back all the weight. I had initially gained back 5 or so, and kept about 167 for a few years, but all my bad habits are creeping back. I think I've been esdrinking too much wine actually, I sort of got to be a connoisseur and I will strictly cut back to where it helps me instead of just adding calories pirate:(but why's the rum gone?) So anyways, so far so good although I spent most of my day shopping, I've been stinking hungry though. Hate it. Wish we still had Dexatrim....

I'm a little late to the party, but...

Welcome! I too have back problems and trust me, losing even 10lbs helps.

Good Luck!

Hi Susan and welcome. Something that helped me, that you may consider was I signed up for the Biggest Loser 6 Challenge last time and I lost 18 pounds. I was 175, then 13 weeks later I was 157. It is very easy, you report your weight to the weight keeper every Friday - no one has to know your weight but her. It helped me because I knew that others were motivating me and we were all in it together. I was also going to Disney and I wanted to look good for the camera too - and it worked, I went 3 weeks ago and felt much better about myself.

The next challenge starts this coming Friday, January 2nd. If you are interested, sign up on the thread already started that is titled "Sign up here for the WISH Biggest Loser 7 Challenge". Maybe it will motivate you also. - Lisa.
