Hi everyone, some of you might recognize me from the CB where I've been for years, however I don't go there as much as I used to. I finally decided to jump in and test the waters here on WISH.

Anyway I am and have been extremely overweight since the birth of my son almost 13 years ago.

A little over 3 months ago I decided once again for the bazillionth time to diet. I did well but cheated here and there. I finally decided that I have to do something about this weight and I have to be accountable to someone other than myself so I joined Diet Center.

I'm proud to say that as of weigh in Tuesday I hit 40 pounds gone. I still need to lose a lot of weight and have a long way to go. I really need support and friends who are going through the same thing.

We leave on vacation next Friday for two weeks in Las Vegas and Disneyland and I'm terrified since I haven't cheated at all in the 2 months I've been at Diet Center.

Any advice, or suggestions about anything I would love. Thanks so much.

Hi Beauty! Welcome to the best support group ever! Congratulations on your 40 pounds gone! Vegas and Disneyland? OMG! But you can do it! (I'm looking down the Vegas road myself in 6 weeks and have pledged to lose 6 pounds by then. ::yes:: ) You will be doing so much walking that even if you do slip up a bit, the damage will be minimal and you can get right back on track after you've whooped it up a bit. Glad to have you here!

Keep the Faith!

Hi Tracy!

Thank you so much for the well wishes!! I see that 145 in your siggy, thats my goal weight!!! Its a long long LONG way off but one day!!

We are looking very forward to Las Vegas. I'm going to buy a few Diet Center sweets to take with me and hope that helps the cravings! Its taken me so long to get to this point.

Some of you may remember Sparkly~Zoe (Beverly Lynn) that passed away last year, she was one of my best friends and was smaller at the time of her surgery than I am right now and I miss her so badly. We always talked about losing this weight together and I'm determined to make her and myself proud and do this!

Yes! I Remember Sparkly~Zoe. What great motivation and beautiful inspiration! Good luck with your journey. Shout if you need help.

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

Welcome.

I'm new here too. Everyone has been so nice. I have a lot to loose to. I started out needing to loose 135 lbs. I've lost 10 so far so I got 125 lbs to go. I'm following Dr. Phil's Ultimate Weight Solution plan. I've just been trying to follow the main healthy eating rules but will be jumping on the rapid start plan its a 14 day start and people have been reporting that it helps burn off 4-10 lbs in the first week.

I was 250 before getting pregnant and was almost back at 2 weeks post partum but gained most of it back somehow. I dunno my eating didn't change much but I do remember being really hungry while breastfeeding my daughter.

We are planning to go to Disney World in a year or two depending on how long it will take us to save for it. I would like to be at goal by then. :)

Anyway enough about me. congrats on the 40lbs that is a great weight loss. Way to go!!

I'm here if you need to talk. I read here all the time now. I'm always looking at Disney stuff. I've been so many times in my life and can't wait to enjoy it with my daughter. :)

Hi Melissa!!

It is so nice to have someone else that needs to lose over 100 pounds!! I am so excited about getting this weight off now. I think finally after the first month its gotten to just be habit. I know what I can and can't eat and thats what I do!!!!!

I'm 32 and have been very overweight since my pregnancy too, that was 13 years ago!!!!!

My DH has said we would take a Disney Cruise next summer so I'm hoping to be a lot closer to my goal by that time!!

Beauty -

You've come a long way already. Be proud of yourself. :)

It just comes down to this... YOU have to be the one that decides THIS IS IT... that whether you're at home, or in Vegas, or at Disneyland, you're going to do what's right for you. And you're going to do it for YOURSELF.

You've taken control already... doesn't it feel good to be in control?!

When you're faced with a "do I want to splurge on this?" decision, REALLY think about it. Sure... that piece of cake would taste good... that ice cream cone would be oh-so-sweet... but I *always* get a dole whip/turkey leg/pretzel/whatever when I'm at Disney... but really... do you want to eat it now, and then have to work it off tomorrow? It's a stupid statement, and I know I don't always follow this advice myself, but "one bite tastes the same as the whole thing." If you ABSOLUTELY decide you have to have some kind of treat... buy one, take a bite, and hand the rest off to one of the two guys. You'll be amazed how POWERFUL and IN CONTROL you feel that you can do it! Besides... one bite occasionally (as occasionally as you can get away with) doesn't lead to the "I ate this, I might as well eat that" mentality that leads to the "I messed up this week... I'll start again on Monday" mentality that leads to the giving up mentality. ;)

As hard as it is now... it's soooooo much easier if you can get the control thing down early on. Makes life easier later. Makes it a "lifestyle change" rather than a diet. It trains you to make smart choices about foods and portions.

But... above all else... my advice is this: Go and have fun. The more fun you can have without involving food, the better. I don't know how and when everything came to be about food (but doesn't it seem like it all is?). The less food becomes entertainment and comfort, and the more it becomes just a neccessity, the better off you'll be.

You can do it, but only YOU can do it.

:)

WOW!!

You should write a book!! You are exactly right on every single thing you said!!

Yes it does seem like its all about food, why on earth is that??? This is a huge city with thousands of things to do and we discuss where to eat!!!

I am really determined to try my absolute best. My Diet Center director is going to talk with me about choices etc. next week before we leave as well.

I do feel good, thats for sure and I am so ready to get into a regular sized pair of jeans.

I just hope pink and black is still in style....LOL!

Hey - it's taken me a while to get to where I *think* I believe it, too. ;)

On those days you're *really* weak... have a talk with Beverly. Do it for her, if you can't do it for yourself. Put that emotion from missing her into yourself. You'll be surprised just how much support you can still get from her. She'll always be there to push you when you need it. :) (As will any of us!)

-----

And a few little diet tips: If you're away from home, and you're feeling like you just really need a treat... get a Diet Coke (or your favorite diet soda). It's amazing how that little bit of cold, wet, sweetness will do it for you... especially if you've gotten used to drinking water until you swim, and saving soda for a treat!

A good summer treat for home... get yourself an inexpensive ice shaver, and keep ice in the freezer. Those moments you've just got to have SOMETHING - shave some ice, and top it with sugar-free syrup (like DaVinci's or Torani's coffee flavorings), strong sugar-free Kool-Aid or Crystal Lite, or even your favorite diet soda. Or freeze your favorite fruit (grapes, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries all work well, as well as banana chunks, if you're eating them)... have a few chunks as a treat. It's cold and refreshing, good for you, and you'll eat veeeeery slowly, as it's soooo cold! Little dollops of frozen sugar-free whipped cream are VERY satisfying, too. Almost like a bite of ice cream, and if it's about tablespoon size, fairly easy on calories/fat. One or two will definitley get rid of a craving!

WELCOME ABOARD, BETH!!! Happy to see ya here! I've noticed a couple threads/posts of yours on the CB and, I was wondering if you'd join WISH and share your success with us! So happy you've decided to. :D

I think dizneegirl has said more than I could ever say and, I even picked up some great tips from her as well!

I do not envy you that trip, while trying to lose anyway. I went away for about 5 days and, I managed to lose but, it was hard when you don't have your own 'stuff' available, including a grocery store and, large enough refrigerator. I ate a lot of chicken and salads and, smaller amounts of those high-everything foods. :earseek:

My personal thoughts for you are Water and Exercise. It's worked for me, I think. :drinking:

However, you've lost 40 lbs in less time than me so, whatever you're doing is working and, I'm sure you've noticed changes (besides your lop-sided-ness):p . Keep up the GREAT SUCCESS!!! Work towards that cruise! Now that, I'm jealous of. ;)

Onward and Downward!!!

:sunny:

Hey Beauty - welcome here.

I started coming here a few weks ago. I am another of the gotta lose a 100 club.

I am setting small goals - my first is doctored ordered 47 pounds. I am 17 down and counting.

I too called it baby weight - except my baby is now 19 - not months - years.

Way to go.

Hi Beth!!! Welcome to WISH!!! I am so happy that you decided to come over and join us on WISH. Like I said in my reply to you the other day, CONGRATULATIONS on losing 40 pounds....that is fantastic!!!! You should be so proud of yourself.

One thing I have discovered on this journey is that losing weight is a process. I didn't gain all this weight overnight so I am not going to lose it overnight. Slow and steady was my motto throughout and I think taking it one day at a time and one pound at a time (or smaller goals) helps in the long run. If I started out saying I wanted to lose 70 pounds I think I would have sabotaged myself, but instead I set smaller goals (and now I am within 12 pounds of goal). Vacations are always a cause for worry because your normal routine is broken and the healthy food isn't always available as readily. My advice for vacation is to ask for a smaller portion or if they can't accomodate that request when the food arrives immediately divide it and ask for a to go sack so the food isn't on your plate. If you can order extra veggies I usually do that so I can fill up on that. Also, I don't deprive myself anything, if I want that cheesecake I will have DH or DS share it with me so I can have a couple of bites because I have found when I deprive myself I crave things that much more.

You have had a few months of no cheating on your plan and after losing 40 pounds I would imagine you are happy with your changing body, so think of how great you feel whenever the temptation hits to stray from your plan on vacation. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!

Good luck and have a wonderful vacation!

Welcome Beauty!! I am glad you came here for support. This is the very best bunch of people that you would ever want to have for support.

I am back on induction today after a few months of being naughty. I have gained a bit of what I originally lost back but my clothes size has not changed which is good!!

I do not know anything about the Diet Center but I will tell you from my OWN experience that if I get a taste of the "real" sweets or other stuff that are off limits then I lose control. I know some people said to just have a bite but for me and maybe you that one taste always turns into more. That kind of food is really and truly like a drug to me and I react like an addict if I just get a taste. You have come a long way and I would hate for you to mess up just because you are on vacation. Try to focus on the fun and forget about the food as much as possible. Just imagine how proud you will be if you can come back and say that you remained cheat -free on vacation!!!! I mean won't you still have a wonderful time without a Mickey Mouse icecream???If you eat one won't you feel guilty and then depressed that you cheated??

I am so proud of you on what you have done already!! I know from the CB that this is a struggle for you and has been for so long.

I have been the same way all my life so I do understand. If I had a goal of the low range of the weight charts I would also have over 100 pounds to lose. One of my goals is to really get some movement into my life. I have summers off from work so I usually sit and watch TV. This summer I plan on getting out and walk or do some exercises that will get the tummy smaller.

I am not an expert but if you ever just need to "talk" privately send me a pm.We all care here and you have made a great choice in coming here.

Hey Lisa!!!!!!!

Thank you all so so much for the advice and the encouragement! Today was weigh in and I lost 3/4 of a pound. That was actually good because I am on day 2 of my period...ugghh!

My director at Diet Center said she is going to have a pep talk with me Friday before we leave and I'm also going to get some Diet Candy bars that she has to help with the sweet tooth. I think with all the Diet consciousness going on now it should be pretty easy to stick with the diet, especially if we eat buffetts.

Thanks so much and I have a feeling you all will be seeing lots more of me!

Beth WTG! Anyone who can go downward during her period - I salute!!

That is my worse time, I crave salt and sweet so badly it is horrible.

I have found SlimFast Peanut butter snacks really take the edge off. But not the whole box like I used to do - hey they are diet right - LOL!

I go once a week to see the hospital nutrionist, her pep talks really do mean alot.

You are an inspiration to me, and I intend to get down there too.

Beauty:

40 lbs gone - that's fabulous! Congratulations on all your effort!

As for staying on plan while on vacation...difficult but very doable. I stayed on plan while at Disneyland the end of February. How? I wasn't shy about letting my server know that I was eating a specific way (low-carb/atkins for me). Even at Goofy's kitchen buffet, I didn't have any problem finding things that I could eat, stay on plan and feel like I wasn't missing out on treats. Most waitstaff and chefs will be extremely accomodating and will assist you in making good choices.

If you must have the "Mickey Ice Cream Bar" - a great way is to share it. The first bite tastes like the last bite - really. A bite is all that you need. I'm not familiar with Diet Center and what you can or can not have on your plan. But remember, to reach your goal weight and to stay at your goal weight will take a lifestyle change. On vacation, losing weight may not be your goal - rather maintaining your current loss might be. Making careful choices while on vacation will be a good way to reinforce that lifestyle change. Also the great thing about vacationing in Vegas or at WDW is all the opportunity to walk and walk and walk!

Welcome to WISH! And have a really fun vacation.

-Laurie

Welcome, Beauty!

Wow, 40 pounds! You are an inspiration!
I hope you will stick around here and post often--this is a great board. Sometimes when I am on the verge of cheating I will log on here and just read some threads and that gets me back on track. :)
