Hi i'm from P.A.!!!!

Haven't been over here in while. I see there's lots more DISers from my area now.

This is the first year we haven't made the trip out to Hershey Park. We love that park and have made a trip every year that DH and I have been together.

Now Dorney Park is a whole nother story. I've lived here all my life and grew up going to Dorney Park. We stopped going about 5 or 6 years ago. It just got too dirty, too many rude people, and lots of line-cutting. And the employees did nothing about it. It just wasn't my idea of a good family park anymore.

I did get the chance to go to Dorney this year on opening day. It was safety patrol day and DD just had to go. I will say the park looked alot better than I remembered and there was much more security around. But it was not enough to change my opinion of the park.

Hey Dreamin!! I hopped boards for awhile tonight. I was trying to get a DIS Meet together this week on another board - where I chat with Dreamin a lot. Maybe I should post it in this thread too for a better response. Did the Harrisburg meet ever take place?? It's really hard to get everyone together with work & kids' schedules. GraysMom is going to try & pop into work tomorrow to say hi, so I'll finally meet a DISer!

We live about 10-15 minutes east from the Vanity Fair Outlets in Reading,Pa. DH works in West Chester, and I work in Pottstown. Bubba is our only and he will be 9 in January.

OMG....you live in Exeter!! I live in Sinking Spring! :rolleyes1 Does the phrase "small world" seem appropriate???? :confused3 If you want, I'll start singing it!!! NO NO I Hate that song!!! :scared1:

We try to get up to the VF Outlets a couple of times a year, maybe we can meet there. Where in NE Philly is your family? I am in Somerton, right by Nabisco. Glad you are all Eagles Fans - we can stay "friends" now :flower3:

:snooty: j/k homie...

Let me know when you plan a VF visit.... like I said, I'm only 10-15 minutes away... My Grandpop lives on Red Lion Rd. near ArchBishop Ryan HS. Down the street from the shopping center on the corner (Acme) and his house is across the street from the baseball field. He used to have a 'monster' evergreen in his front yard, and 2 years ago, donated it for a Christmas tree (can't remember if it was the city or state he donated it to....think it was city tho). I have other family on Alton St. in the Northeast and Longshore Ave (off Unruh St) in NE. I used to live on Whitaker Ave near the old Sears building they torn down/blew up.

Just bought tickets for the Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO) for Jan. 5th. Couldn't get anything in Philly (and I am a subscriber and these are pre-sale) - almost as bad as getting ADR's ...............lol:rotfl: Got them for Wilkes Barre cause we're going with my cousins who live in Mahoning Valley, so we'll have to go up to them, since we couldn't get tix down here. Guess we'll be up in your neck of the woods, more or less - for some of you guys. Hope the weather is good. DH is most likely not gonna be happy about this, but since he is long ago asleep, I made the decision w/o him. Might need to recruit someone here if he freaks..............:rotfl2:

Got to get to sleep. 'Night all.

NO!!! Please don't sing.... :rolleyes1

By chance, you don't have a son or relative 8 years old playing fall soccer, do you??? If you do, we might be playing them!

Man we are just all online at once tonight - literally typing over each other! What would we be like in person - a gaggle of cackling ladies (and gents - who knows who we're really talking to!) or like a bunch of yip yip dogs!

Ok I'm getting silly now, off to bed for me. I'm at Yankee once again tomorrow if any of you local gals want to pop in & say hello.

DH, DD and I went to Hershey for the first time in a couple of years with my friend from work and her "crew". We were looking forward to checking out the new Boardwalk section. The whole park was sooooooo crowded:headache: It was the week before schools went back and maybe earlier in the season was better, but the crowds were unreal.:crowded: We hardly got to do any rides. DH and DD love the "wilder" rides, by I am a real chicken, and there wasn't all that much to do, especially w/o DS to keep me company......lol. Really can't even compare it to WDW, that's for sure. Of course, when my kids were younger and we couldn't take them out of school, we suffered the Disney crowds and heat of August and that was no picnic either. Still, there is more to do for those of us with tamer tastes and the last week of August is (slightly) less crowded as far as summer crowds go.

It was crowded all summer long! DS and I have made about 15 trips this summer and didn't once enjoy the Boardwalk. The nice thing about being 1/2 hour away is being able to leave when the crowds get to ugly.

Hi to all the PAers out there!

This past weekend, DH and I had to go to Baton Rouge, LA for a continuing education class he was taking...oh my goodness, it was a beautiful place, but the humidity was UNBEARABLE. 98 degrees with 98% humidity. DH glasses fogged up the second we walked out of the hotel...One of the locals told me, "You guys get the winter blues up north, we get the summer blues down here" They don't leave the air conditioning until october! So, yeah, one more plus for PA!

:scared: I hope to be able to move to Fla. in 10yrs. or so...I hate living in PA (hey! no flames!) And then I get the whole speech: "it's so hot in the summer in Fla, they got bugs, they got hurricanes...." Oh puhleeze.... It's just as hot and humid in SE Pa. as it is in Fl (mof, when WE went in June, they were in the 90's at home, and only mid to upper 80s in Orlando!), we got bugs in PA too....and exterminators.... and granted, we don't have hurricanes, but we have snow :headache: . I personally HATE the cold and DH & I both hate the snow!

I always conclude making my point of this: I'd gladly trade 7-8 months of freezing cold for 3-4 months of unGodly hot in Fla..... jmo ;)

This is us too, though we are moving in 2 yrs. There are things I will miss about PA but they don't outweigh the things I don't like. I also can't stand the cold, never could. And don't get me started about snow. I would certainly take the the few months of horrible heat and the rest of the year filled with mostly beautiful weather.

DH's brother lives in Florida and he is the only one of his family he is close to. DH wants to be closer to him and that means moving to Florida.

Amen to that Sista!!! :worship:

DH's father lives in Ocala,Fl and his bro lives in Edgewater, Fl (near New Smyrna Beach...below Daytona) Soooo, a plus with living there, but not THE reason....(I'd like to live close enough to the parks for 'day' trips :rolleyes1 OR a part-time job :thumbsup2 )

DH's brother lives in Riverview, right outside of Tampa. We spent part of our last vacation with them just looking around at the area. They only moved to FL last year (from Rochester, NY) and they love it.

Though living closer to Disney will be nice it definately it not our main reason to move. A couple of day trips throughout the year, maybe. But we found there are so many other things to do also. As much as we love Disney, a day at the beach is just as appealing. Just being able to send the kids outside most of the year would be wonderful.

HA! KIDS nuthin'....I want to spend more time outside!!! But, sounds like we "sing the same song" .... I originally wanted to live near the beach, but second thought that....they do, after all, have hurri's ...so, I think I'd like more inland....maybe 1/2 hour -45 min. trip to the parks

Hello south central paer.

I am originally from Lebanon County and worked at Hershey Park while in high school and college. Went to college at Millersville U and now live in Norristown, Montgomery county. :dance3: :rotfl: :goodvibes

Emmaus checking in :wave2: . DH and I both graduated from Millersville U too ('95 and '96)! Go Marauders :cheer2: !

Thanks TaraPA for telling me about this thread :) . It was nice to meet you today!

Did anyone else see Knoebels ratings in Amusement Park Today? Check out http://www.amusementtoday.com/image/GoldenTicket2007.pdf to see the results. Knoebels won a Golden Ticket for "Best Park Food" (again!) and "Best Carousel". The ratings include international parks as well as the Disney Parks.
