My family and I are considering the DVC and am awaiting the info in the mail. We don't know whether to go for SSR or try a resale. I really like how the Boardwalk looks and could not find any real pictures of what SSR will be like. Can anyone give me any info about it? Since SSR is close to Downtown Disney how far would it be to say Magic Kingdom? I liek the idea that SSR is for 50 years but not sure if is too out of the way. Thanks for any input!

All the DVC resorts are far from the Magic Kingdom, with the exception of Wilderness Lodge. You can get there by goat errr boat. I wouldn't choose Boardwalk over SSR because it's a mile or two closer.

BWV and BCV are CLOSE, very close to Epcot and MGM. BCV owners are into large winding pools and a cool slide so they buy there. They're all great.

If you LOVE one of the other resorts or get an irresistable price, I would say buy there. Otherwise I'd go for SSR. My expectation is that it will be awesome. PLUS the 50 years.

Frankiemom -- Where do you usually stay now? I'll try to give you a "feel" of distance from what you are familiar with.

PAMOKW

The only places I have ever stayed at is the Grand Floridian and the Polynesian and I have been really spoiled by the monorail!

When you stayed at GF or Poly did you ever take a bus to DD? The distance and time of travel from SSR to MK would be approx the same.

It might help to recall that Old Key West was the original DVC. Its popularity made all the other villa resorts possible. And OKW is about the same distance from the parks as SSR will be. So the distance must not be much of a problem.

I would estimate the travel time to MK at about 30 minutes. The actual bus ride will be 15-20 minutes. If you haven't used the bus, you might not be aware that it does drop you right outside the entrance, not in the general parking lot area. The bus stop is roughly the same distance to the entrance gates as the monorail station....just on opposite sides of the entrance.

Travel time by bus to Epcot and MGM will be about 15 minutes -- a little more if you have to wait for the bus. AK is at the opposite end of the property so it is the longest trip. I would guess the bus ride is about 30 minutes.

Dont discount resales...especially OKW!
OKW has definitely bigger units. The maintenance fee, which has been increasing, is less @ OKW compared to the rest.
Do your homework! :sunny:

This is making a blanket statement that is not true for everyone. For many people the distance is very much a problem and not what they want from an on-site deluxe resort.
There are those that would not be DVC members today if OKW was the only resort available, just as there are those that would not be members if OKW was not available.
You really can not make blanket statements about DVC members, their preferences, what attracted them to DVC etc. DVC members vary greatly in their likes and preferences. Just look at the big differences on this board, and the number of DVC members that post on this board, compared to the actual number of DVC members, is just a drop in the bucket!
