Hi from NC!

I'm from NC too (born & raised). We will be fling for the first time in 6 weeks. We have also driven and it has taken us 9 hours (if no stops). This will be our 25th wedding anniversary so we're doing it in a big way!
Congrats on your 25th anniversary!

Your family's first trip! Wow... you are in for a great experience. It is amazing to visit the parks (always) but especially for the first time.

We live in Charlotte, NC and will leave after work one day and push the trip to Jacksonville, FL. The nice thing about driving a bit more that evening is that, if you wake up early enough the next morning, you can be at the parks in the morning. You can definitely be in the parks by noon if not earlier.

I am still getting over that this will be your first trip. Do you have any idea how great it is going to be? You will be blown away by the size, scope, beauty and detail of WDW.

Definitely make sure (if you can) to allocate at least one day per park and some time for Downtown Disney. If you can hit a Disney waterpark (Typhoon Lagoon would be my recommendation though Blizzard Beach is excellent too), I would say do that as well.

Of course, you won't see everything this one trip (make your peace now with that concept) which will give you a reason to want to go back... the cycle winds up being endless (which is perfect)!

As a new board member, I would like to say welcome!

A little off topic, but I have a question for all you North Carolinians. My sister moved to Waxhaw a year ago and she is in a new development. She has more people from New York and New Jersey living there then she has people from NC.

Do the real NC people kind of recent they are being invaded so fast. From the numbers I hear, NC will definitely have to change their infrstructure and that might mean higher property taxes.

My husband is actually from the Buffalo area of NY. I always pick on him that "The civil war is over, ya'll can stop invading now." There are a few people from NY in our small town here. Lately in my area we've gotten a lot of people moving in from Mexico. I don't know how they ever decided "Hey lets move to this tiny little town in NC that nobody has ever heard of".

DisNeigh, I know, I am SOOO excited to go. I honestly think I will bust into tears many times during the trip. And I'm not really an emotional person. Especially when it comes to my DD seeing her princess up close for the first time. princess: :sad1:

I have planned 1 park per day. The only exception is adding Downtown Disney to the mix at the end of a day or where ever we can fit it. But believe me, I WILL hit it!!! LOL I even printed out a map and marked the definite stores I want to spend my life savings at. Oh and I am going to build me a light saber too. :rotfl:

Unfortunately, there is some friction between the locals and the non-locals. The biggest concern from the locals is that the non-locals have the attitude of 'that is not the way we did it in xyz' and are not embracing the southern way of life. I am not a local but have been here about 13 years and have noticed more people from NY in the last few years. From what I understand, some newspapers are directly marketing areas such as Mooresville, NC to the New York/New Jersey audience and that is why there has been an increase in people from NY & NJ.

HI!! Welcome to the Dis.

I too am from the Triad area. I believe I noticed you have a DD3? Me too!!

We drove from here and stopped near Savannah as well - makes it a nice stopping place, especially with a little one.

Have a great trip!
Cathy

I highly recommend the Hampton Inn in Savannah, its right off of 95. We have stayed there twice on our way to Disney. It has always been very clean and they have a cont. breakfast that is included.

By the way I'm in Asheville.

Hi honeybee8200! Welcome to the best board around. Be careful it is addicting. Enjoy your trip.

Good for you! If I spot you I will challenge you to a light saber duel!

It's great to hear from someone who is so pumped!

Disney RULES!

I haven't seen as much of the friction but have noticed that every other person I run into recently is from NY or NJ! It is AMAZING! You'd think they were giving homes away to people from those areas.

Having said that, I am a transplant from NY as well... but I have been down here for about 20 years (so it is different, hmpf!). Still, I am continue to attempt to resist terms like y'all and fixin'!

Hello all my fellow NCarolinians!
I too, am a transplant from NJ. But Raleigh has been my home for many years.

I will be in the World for Free Dining in 55 days!!:cool1:

It is so cool to see so many fellow NC Disers.

To the OP: Have a great first trip! You will be making plans to go back before you have even left WDW.

I think you said a mouthful here. Even in this horrible real estate market, North Carolina prices are way below New York and New Jersey prices and it feels like they are giving them away.

For what I could sell my two bedroom town home for in Staten Island, New York, I could get a four bed room detached house in most parts of NC. Even in this market I could get about $380,000 for my 2 bedroom town home. When the market was good, I was able to get $435,000. My sister paid $265,000 for her brand new four bedroom house in Waxhaw, NC.

If your from New Jersey, the price difference is almost the same, but the real estate taxes in most parts of Jersey run about $10,000 grand a year for a four bedroom home with about a half an acre of property. Even in a not so great area of Jersey you are still paying about $6,000 in property taxes.

Hi!! Another Carolina Girl. We've driven once w/ a 2 yo and stopped in Savannah. Everyone eating the cont. breakfast was on their way to Disney.:woohoo:

Well coming here from WI I can tell you property taxes are about half of what we paid there. Which is scary because salaries don't support what you had to pay there. I've met a lot of folks from NY/NJ and have heard the tax stories.

I'm actually not here longer than I have to be. Looking for work back in the midwest. The only good thing I've found about living here is that I'm 10 hours from disney...not 2 days!;)

Oh I believe it about the cost of living (property taxes, house prices, etc) being higher in NY. When I was up there for my brother in law's wedding, the house across the street from friends was up for sale. The curious Southerner I am grabbed one of those sheet and it was over $800,000!!!!

It's no wonder why a lot of people live down here. You can buy a mansion for that in this area. LOL

Oh and DisNeigh, I accept your duel!!! LOL

Hey, I'm in the Charlotte area too although looking to get OUT and to Florida lol

I lived there as a kid but we're from Cleveland most recently. So it must be all you NYers that are the bad drivers around here, right? :P

Welcome!

Good Luck planning your trip.

I am a former NC resident. I was born and raised in the Triange area, attended college in the Triad area, and now live in Pa.

Welcome!

I dream about moving to Orlando... well, actually not Orlando... I'd like to setup shop in this small area outside of Orlando... there is a house on a hill near a river that is of particular interest to me... some say it is haunted.

You might catch me from time to time in my PJs grabbing a bite to eat at the Liberty Tree Tavern.:thumbsup2
