:)Hi everyone,
Firstly, i am delighted to find this forum on the dis boards ( I am new - just registered today!).

I was just wondering - we are off to Disneyland California for our very first visit and we are going as a sort of special anniversary trip for our 5 year anniversary in May 2010. Its also a chance for us to tick off another Disney park from our list!! (we want to see all of the Disney Parks around the world and have so far been to Disneyland Paris and Disney World Florida).

I will be 22 and my partner Ally will be turning 23 while we are there. We will actually be there on the date of our anniversary and so we would like to do somehting a little special - perhaps a meal or celebratory dessert? We are always quite careful about how affectionate we are in public - especially in Disney, and whilst we dont want to cause any issues or awkwardness, we would like to celebrate our anniversary if possible. Will we be ok as a young lesbian couple? Or will it be a little awkward for us?

Are there any restaurants you would recommend in Disney? Or any special things we could do which wont make us feel too awkward?

Looking forward to hearing from you guys :)

As long as you're not taking it to a point where you should be in a bedroom, affection is fine at Disney :)

The Wishes desert reception is really cool, and there are LOTS of great restaurants on property for a romantic dinner. Many of the signature dining options at WDW now offer a "Sweetheart Dinner for 2".

Haha yes - I know what you mean. We may hold hands from time to time but tend not to kiss or anything- which i think is fine for disney right??

Will the CMs be a little shocked when we book a sweetheart dinner and turn up a lesbian couple? Also - if we get anniversary badges or anything, will we get negative reactions from other park guests?

Sorry if I sound nieve - in England people are quite conservative and dont like to see anything! lol.

We are sooooo excited to go, we have a few things to celebrate - 1st visit, 5 year annniversary and Allys 23rd birthday! Only 7 months to go!! :)

Look forward to hearing from more of you,

DL doesn't have a long list of really nice restaurants like WDW, although there are a few. The only restaurant inside the park that I would deem as being special and a romantic would be Blue Bayou, which overlooks the themed cue of Pirates. Reservations are a good thing, but not always required. If you get to to the restaurant early enough you can be put on a list and not have too long of a wait. Outside the parks yet at the resort is at one of the DL hotels. I would try Steakhouse 55. Incredible food, atmosphere and the wait staff is amazing.

Hi and thanks to you guys for replying - I hope I havent insulted anyone by being sounding like we should keep our relationship very private - I dont want to come across as being someone who is embarassed or ashamed - we just want our trip to not have any awkward or negative moments (we have had a couple in the UK) - so I really hope I havent offended anyone? (im sensing a very slightly less friendly tone to the replies so far, than others i have seen on this forum - maybe im just being paranoid!! lol)

Its so nice to be able to speak openly about our trip - i was on another forum, but even when i was explaining about our trip planning, people kept referring to me as 'a good son' etc - they refused to acknowledge us as a 'non straight' couple lol despite me saying I was a girl several times! So looking forward to some friendlier people on here!! :grouphug:

I just noticed that was for DisneyLand..:rotfl:

I'm with zeitzeuge on Steakhouse 55. We've had absolutely wonderful meals there and the service is fantastic. The only issue I had with 55 is the placement of the tables for two. They just seemed to be stuck in a corner here and there.

One of our other favorite restaurants is at the Grand Californian hotel, The Napa Rose. A bit pricier than 55 but we've never had a bad meal there. Our favorite waiters there are John and Saucy.

Wishing you a wonderful time!

Hello! I don't have much information to share about DL California as we've only been once, but wanted to say welcome to the boards and congratulations on your upcoming anniversary, first visit, and birthday! That's quite a celebration!

Nice to have you with us and hope to talk Disney with you more!

Oh, and showing affection in public is a perfectly fine topic. It's the unfortunate state of our world that we have to be concerned about that. My wife and I have been together 14 years and we still are hyper alert to how we interact in public. Don't feel bad for discussing it. Being careful is smart, not shameful.

My vote would be for the Napa Rose, I think it's the most delicious meal you can get for the money.

As far as being affectionate in public, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think I'm exaggerating when I say 50% of the people who work at Disneyland are gay (it takes a certain kind of person I guess). So chances are that you're either dealing with someone gay, or dealing with someone who's very cool with gay people. (Because seriously, that's a lot of co-workers to dislike, and I think we all know that our coworkers can either make our jobs very easy, or very difficult, so in general its best to be nice to the gays).

You will have a wonderful time! You don't have to worry about us judging your level of "gayness". I understand we all have our comfort zones.

I don't know how the rest of you feel but I have always found DL guests to be much friendlier to us then WDW guests. :confused3

I think you two will have a great time. You are on the same timeline as my girl and I( We started dating at 18 & 20). I also think it was around year 5 that we 1st went to DL too! Now we are on year 15:scared1: ...... And just in case any of you are doing the math, that all makes me only 24. Really.:goodvibes

Although I have never been to DL, I wanted to welcome you here - just like DVC over there :) I'm excited for you. As it's your first time to DL, I hope you take a lot in. I hope you and your girlfriend have a lot of fun :goodvibes
