We are considering making our first trip to the dark side either Oct 18-21, Christmas Break, or sometime next summer. My son is a huge Walking Dead fan & really wants to go to HHN; however, if we go during that time, we will only have 3 park days where as the other times we could stay a week. I notice that the parks close pretty early in October. Would we have time to see everything or would you recommend going one of the other possible dates? Also, most of the local schools around there are on break during that time. We would plan to stay onsite & would go to HHN on Thursday night & purchase EP. Do you think we could do most of HHN? I read that you can do S & S or a special entrance for onsite guests. Which would you recommend doing or do they both lead to the same holding area? One last question, is it warm enough to swim during October?

if you buy the express pass for that thursday night, you should be able to catch all the houses that night.

use the hotel entrance gate for sNs but go into the park at 6:00.
if the park is not opened yet, you will go to the sNs holding area to await for the start of hhn that night.

if you have a day ticket, do not leave the park but go to the sNs holding area when the park closes at 5:00.

by starting early, you can do the first 3 houses without much of a line.

when the park officially opens at 6:30, you will be ahead of the crowds.

i always do the sNs holding area even though i stay onsite.

it's still warm some dates in october to use the pools.

my vote would be do the shorter trip so you can hit hhn.

i'm so looking forward to the Walking Dead this year.
do hit bill and teds show.
alice and penn and teller is new to the park this year.
i'll be checking that our also.

Thanks, we will be visiting the parks while we're there. My son so loves the Walking Dead lol.

i love walking dead.

i planned my trip around season opening for that tv show.

i leave the darkside on the 11th and walking dead will be on tv on the 14th.

I have a similar question but we're not going until later in Oct. We're planning to do HHN on Wed the 24th and I will probably buy tickets in advance. Originally I thought we'd do HHN Thurs the 25th too, but I'm thinking about waiting to buy those tickets in case we don't feel like going 2 nights.

What are the chances of HHN selling out on Oct 25th?

We're staying on property and will be in the stay and scream area so I'm thinking we might be able to see all of HHN in one night...what do you veterans think?

Would two nights be better than one?

HHN (the event) rarely sells out...Express Passes possibly but not the whole event.

I would suggest purchasing EPs for the night you want to go...you won't have too many issues doing everything that night. Keep in mind that you will be going during Hell Week which is when the local schools are out. Most local systems are out on Friday 10/26 so Thursday night will be super crowded. During those weeks, lots and lots of school kids come to HHN which makes for very long lines. You might want to go on Wednesday instead.

You might consider going on 10/25 with EPs and again on 10/26 without EPs so you can relax and really savor the atmosphere w/o having to worry about seeing everything.

Thanks Metro for the reply

We are planning to go on Wed the 24th...so maybe we should get express passes for wednesday then go again on thurs with out express? Or could we get by with out express on wednesday?

Wednesday shouldn't be as bad because schools not out yet? (fingers crossed!)

Sounds like a plan to me. :thumbsup2

Actually... REALLY important question that I noticed hasn't been asked yet....

How old is your son?

HHN is not recommended for people under the age of 13. The entire event can be quite scary which younger kids can't really handle well (This ain't no Disney Halloween). Judging from your son's love of Walking Dead, I'm going to assume that the scares won't phase him as much, But there can be other things around the park during HHN that you may want to consider.... such as scantily clad scareactors/actresses and people in the Bill and Ted show..... As well as the fact that the alcohol flows quite freely during the event so there will be a number of guests who may be quite intoxicated at the event.

Since every child and every parent is different, I figured it wouldn't hurt to point some of this out (both for you and others who may lurk the thread) since I've known people who don't have any problem with exposing their kids to horror elements [after all... it's easy to distinguish fake vs. reality], but would think twice about exposing them to a large number of drunks or the adult costumes and humor that can be present during the event. IMHO, better over-informed than under.

you need to add in the language factor.

one might hear words said in the park that might not be in their vocabulary yet.

True.... But that kinda stems from the scary + liquored up factor.

Hell... I think I've heard sayings/words that aren't in MY vocabulary in those types of situations.... and I've been accused of having a sailor's mouth before! :lmao:

One last question. Which night would you recommend that we go?

1.) our 1st night that we are there Thursday-less crowds, cheaper, but we won't really know our way around the parks yet or

2.) Friday-more crowded, but we will be more familiar with the parks

Either night, we will get an express pass

If you are going to purchase the EP, go whichever night fits your schedule best.

I have a question as well! I have already purchased my Universal Tickets for our upcoming trip and I would like to get the Stay and Scream discount for HHN, but I don't know where to enter my ticket's confirmation code on the HHN website?

Give them a call - the website is requiring that you purchase your entrance ticket in conjunction with the S&S add on.

This ticket requires the purchase of another ticket. Please click on the ticket name below for more details.

Guests to Universal Studios Florida® and Universal's Islands of Adventure® can save $52 on admission to Halloween Horror Nights with a Stay and Scream Upgrade (ticket must be purchased in conjunction with a regular theme park daily admission ticket - does not have to be used on the same day as your daytime park ticket).

easy peasy.......
if you ordered your park ticket off of the universal ticket site, call them.
give them your original park ticket order number and you can buy the hhn ticket at the stay and scream price.

if you bought from a different vendor, you can buy the hhn ticket at guest services.

just show your day ticket at gs and you can buy the discounted hhn tix.

there are many that wait until the day they are in the park for buying the hhn add on ticket.

either way, an easy way to buy the add on.

When exactly is Hell Week? I hadn't even considered that yet...

When exactly is Hell Week? I hadn't even considered that yet...

hell week is when quite a few of the florida schools are out during the week.
teens flock to the parks then.

i have asked a few floridians on the dates of it for this year.
still haven't received an answer yet.

don't know if it is the week of the 16th or 23rd.

one year it started on the day i returned for home.
