I have been to Universal Studios Orlando many times, but never
HHN. I have never been to Universal Hollywood. Son has always wanted to go to HHN, but timing never worked out in past due to school. It looks like we can do it this year. I know Hollywood is a smaller park, but I am wondering how the two parks compare for HHN. Has anyone been to both and what did you think? Thanks.
You don't say where you live. If this would be an opportunity to visit LA vs another visit to MCO, I'd go for it.
We were able to work in visiting several parks in the area via a best of both worlds, bucket-list trip of the LA haunts, finishing up back @ USO & WDW in 2015.
Knott's Scary Farm blew us away!!!). If you do USH HHN, try to work it in, it's that good. The onsite hotel there has a well-worth it pkg.

Have been to USH a few times, skipped the park during the day that trip. We bought the VIP ticket for a FOTL to each house/tram tour. Not sure we'd purchase it again if going early in the season on a non Saturday unless we wanted to do multiple repeats of each house.
US/IoA Orlando is much larger and not as much of a local's park as USH. Compared to USO they have a very young crowd. The backlot tour was only time we were glad to have FOTL, it was mobbed, but we visited later in the evening. It becomes the passage to the Bates Motel. Note my avatar
There is a long walk thru scarezones there where you have opportunity to do a photo op on the steps to Norman's house.
Majority of the scarezones in USH are down a series of escalators, with the backlot one on upper level, along with a show. We saw some sort of jabberwocky group, seemed to be popular with the crowd.
the VIP tix as well as offering fast pass of sorts had early entry into the park. We were able to enter 1-1/2 hours early. Noticed people were already lined up 3 hours early to enter the park on our way into citiwalk there to eat dinner. We were able to get positioned down in the lower area where the houses were located while they were just finishing up ride operations for the day.
On our date, USH has a bit of a late crowd, I'm told it happens often early in the season, especially on Friday vs Saturday nights. Were able to do repeated houses before others started to trail in, when we finished up ther with our VIP
What we found a bit off putting was several of the houses were one story frame construction with black tarps vs the studios and permanent structures @ USO. Lots of light filtered through until the sun set. Discovered it took a bit off the houses with daylight intruding. Much better effects when the sun set.
Los Angeles is full of unemployed professional actors, USH is fortunate to be able to have a huge pool from which to hire amazing talent. Not to say the scareactors @ USO don't put on an amazing show, they consistently scare me out of my wits...even after repeat turns thru the house when I know 'where' the scareactors are located
Even though some of the same houses were @ both parks, they each managed to put their own spin on them via design & acting interpretation, while telling the same story
A good scare is a good scare, no matter what coast you find yourself haunting.
